Driving Characteristic of Passive Converter for Single Phase SRM (단상 SRM 구동을 위한 Passive Converter 동작특성)

  • At the high speed operation, the high demagnetization voltage can reduce the negative torque, so the output power and efficiency can be improved. In this paper, a novel power converter for single phase SRM with high demagnetization voltage is proposed. A simple passive capacitor circuit is added in the front-end, which consists of three diodes and one capacitor. Based on this passive network, the two capacitors can be connected in series and parallel, so the phase winding of SRM obtains general do-link voltage in excitation mode and the double dc-link voltage in demagnetization mode. The operation modes of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Some computer simulation results is done to verify the performance of proposed converter.

  • The permanent magnet synchronous motor has high efficiency driving performance and high power density output characteristics compared with other motors. In addition, it has good regenerative operation characteristics during braking and deceleration driving condition. For this reason, permanent magnet synchronous motor is generally applied as a power train motor for electrical vehicle. In permanent magnet synchronous motor, the most probable causes of fault are demagnetization of rotor's permanent magnet and short of stator winding turn. Therefore, the demagnetization fault of permanent magnet and turn fault of stator winding should be detected quickly to reduce the risk of accident and to prevent the progress of breakdown of power train system. In this paper, the fault diagnosis method using high frequency low voltage injection was suggested to diagnose the demagnetization fault of rotor permanent magnet and the turn fault of stator winding. The proposed fault diagnosis method can be used to check the faults of permanent magnet synchronous motor during system check-up process at vehicle starting and idling stop mode. The feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method were verified by the finite element analysis.

  • This paper proposes a high speed SRM drive system for blower application with a new 4-level inverter and precise excitation position generator. For a high speed blower, a proper inverter and control method are proposed and the output characteristics are analyzed. In order to get a fast build-up and demagnetization of excitation current, a 4-level inverter system is proposed. The proposed 4-level inverter has additional charge capacitor, power switch and diode in the conventional asymmetric converter. The charged high voltage is supplied to the phase winding for fast current build-up, and demagnetization current is charged to additional capacitor of the 4-level inverter. In addition, a precise excitation position generator can reduce turn-on and turn-off angle error according to sampling period of digital control system. The proposed high speed SRM drive system is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a novel multi-level inverter for low cost high speed switched reluctance(SR) drive is proposed. The proposed multi-level converter has reduced number of power switches and diodes than that of a conventional asymmetric converter for SRM and smaller voltage rating of the dump capacitor comparing with energy efficient c-dump converter. It can supply five operating modes that is boosted, DC-link, zero, negative bias and negative boosted voltage. The proposed multi-level converter has fast excitation and demagnetization modes of phase current, so dynamic response can be achieved. The proposed multi-level converter is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • Design and drive characteristics of SR drive for hydraulic pump system using passive converter is presented in this paper. In oder to get the high performance, a simple passive circuit is added in the front-end of a conventional asymmetric converter, which consists of three diodes and one capacitor. This passive converter has the high demagnetization voltage, to reduce the demagnetization time. Futhermore optimal turn-off angle for the proposed passive converter is proposed. According to motor speed and current, an optimal turn-off angle can be achieved by look-up table to reduce torque ripple. The characteristic of proposed hydraulic pump system using passive converter is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • A novel passive boost power converter forsingle-phaseswitched reluctance motor is presented. A simple passive circuit is proposed comprisingthree diodes and one capacitor. The passive circuitis added in the front-end of a conventional asymmetric converter to obtain high negative bias. Based on this passive network, the terminal voltage of the converter side is a general DC-link voltage level in parallel mode up to a double DC-link voltage level in series mode. Thus,it can suppress the negative torque generation from the tail current and improve the output power. The results of the comparative simulation and experiments forthe conventional and proposed converter verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • The application of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is dramatically increasing due to a simple mechanical structure, high efficiency and a good high speed characteristics. Generally, turn-off angle of power switch must be limited the demagnetization period. To control high conduction ratio in motor operation and regenerative voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper proposes multi-level inverter to have a maximum conduction ratio of SRM. The proposed method is verified by experiment.
