  • These days, there are more and more IT research institutions which foresee cloud services as the predominant IT service in the near future and there, in fact, are actual cloud services provided by some IT leading vendors. Regardless of physical location of the service and environment of the system, cloud service can provide users with storage services, usage of data and software. On the other hand, cloud service has challenges as well. Even though cloud service has its edge in terms of the extent to which the IT resource can be freely utilized regardless of the confinement of hardware, the availability is another problem to be solved. Hence, this paper is dedicated to tackle the aforementioned issues; prerequisites of cloud computing for distributed file system, open source based Hadoop distributed file system, in-memory database technology and high availability database system. Also the author tries to body out the high availability mass distributed data management architecture in cloud service's perspective using currently used distributed file system in cloud computing market.

  • In this paper, we analyze a technique for building a high-availability (HA) cluster system. We propose what we have termed the 'Selective Replication Manager (SRM),' which improves the throughput performance and reduces the latency of disk devices by means of a Distributed Replicated Block Device (DRBD), which is integrated in the recent Linux Kernel (version 2.6.33 or higher) and that still provides HA and failover capabilities. The proposed technique can be applied to any disk replication and database system with little customization and with a reasonably low performance overhead. We demonstrate that this approach using SRM increases the disk replication speed and reduces latency by 17% and 7%, respectively, as compared to the existing DRBD solution. This approach represents a good effort to increase HA with a minimum amount of risk and cost in terms of commodity hardware.

  • Cloud computing is a paradigm in which information is permanently stored in servers on the Internet and cached temporarily on clients. Virtual private network (VPN) is the most widely used technology for secure cloud access. Unfortunately, VPN-based cloud services become unavailable when a VPN failure occurs. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to improve the availability of VPN connections against such failures, called high-availability virtual communication (HAVC). Unlike most of the multipath transmission schemes in the literature, the proposed scheme is implemented by using a virtualization technique, and its protocol functions are independent of existing networks - potential clients are not required to modify their applications or operating systems. Simulation results show that the HAVC can not only tolerate VPN failures but also achieve high transmission performance.

  • As cluster systems used for high performance computing consist of large number of running servers, one has to solve the low availability problems occurred by the high chance of the server failures. To handle the problems, it is necessary to have the precise definition of available performance of cluster systems that represents availability and performability of the systems simultaneously. Previous research results that mention availability issues lack for concerning system performance such as waiting time and response time in their availability definition. In this paper, we propose a new availability metric for (n, k)-way cluster systems which compose of n primary servers and k backup servers. With the metric, the change of system performance according to arrival rates is captured and the waiting time of a request can be kept below to a certain level. Using various system operating parameters, we calculate availability and downtime of cluster systems along with waiting tine deadline.

  • This study was to examine the effect of phytate on the protein digestibility and calcium, iron and zinc availability in phytase treated soymilks digested with pepsin and pepsin-pancreatin in vitro. Also, the bending between phytate and protein in soymilks was investigated by means of SDS-PAGE. The content of phytate in soymilk was reduced by phytase treatment. As the content of phytate decreased, the protein digestibility increased in soymilk treated with the digest enzymes in vitro. The reduction of phytate content in soymilk improved the availability of all calcium, iron and zinc. Although the availability of calcium increased, the amount of change was small. The phytate reduction increased most the availability of iron. A number of bands of high molecular weight protein in soymilk disappleared in SDS-PAGE by lowering the phytate content with phytase treatement on soymilk.

  • The characteristic of the random-request availability is that random task arrival is included as one of system elements. If the mean number of task arrivals grows, the computational complexity for deriving the random-request availability becomes extremely high. Using a simulation method, the effect of 'random task arrival' elements on the random-request availability is investigated. Some approximation methods are also discussed.

  • Recently, the need for non-stop service is increasing by the business mission-critical Internet banking, e-payment, e-commerce, home shopping, securities trading, and petition business increases, clustered in a single database of existing, redundant research on high-availability technologies related to technique, etc. is increasing. It provides an API based on the Active Log in addition to the technique of redundancy, ALTIBASE$^{TM}$ Log Analyzer (below, ALA), provides scalability and communication of the same model or between heterogeneous. In this paper, we evaluated the performance of ALA by presenting the design of the database system that you can use the ALA, to satisfy all the synchronization features high scalability and high availability, real-time.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore and examine the relationship between mother-child emotional availability and preschoolers' story stem narrative response. Eighty two 4-year-old preschoolers and their mothers participated in this study. This study used the following translated evaluation tools: Emotional Availability Scales(EA, 3rd edition) designed by Biringen and colleagues(1998) to examine the quality of the emotional relationship between mother and her child, and the MacArthur Story Stem Battery(MSSB) developed by Bretherton and colleagues with the MacArthur Narrative Group(1990) to measure preschoolers' narrative responses. The following statistical analyses were preformed descriptive, cluster analysis, and One-way ANOVA. The findings were as follows: First, 4 clusters of the narrative responses of 4-year-old preschoolers were prosocial story tellers, avoidant/dysregulated story tellers, constrained story tellers, and anxious story tellers. Second, the preschoolers in the prosocial cluster showed a high level of mother-child emotional availability and the preschoolers in the avoidant/dysregulated cluster showed a low level of mother-child emotional availability.

  • This study identified the types of consumer review information about apparel products based on consumer satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the availability/non-availability of consumer review information for online stores. Data were collected from 318 females aged 20s' to 30s', who had significant experience in reading consumer reviews posted on online stores. Consumer satisfaction/dissatisfaction with availability or non-availability of review information on online stores is different for information in regards to apparel product attributes, product benefits, and store attributes. According to the concept of quality elements suggested by the Kano model, two types of consumer review information were determined: Must-have information (product attribute information about size, fabric, color and design of the apparel product; benefit information about washing & care and comport of the apparel product; store attribute information about responsiveness, disclosure, delivery and after service of the store) and attracting information (attribute information about price comparison; benefit information about coordination with other items, fashionability, price discounts, value for price, reaction from others, emotion experienced during transaction, symbolic features for status, health functionality, and eco-friendly feature; store attribute information about return/refund, damage compensation and reputation/credibility of online store and interactive and dynamic nature of reviews among customers). There were significant differences between the high and low involvement groups in their perceptions of consumer review information.

  • With the development of smart on-devices and communication technology, demand for non-stop services is increasing. Therefore, the high availability for continuously providing services in the event of system failure has been spotlighted. Meanwhile, because most internet-based services are provided by using TCP, an efficient TCP session recovery technique for providing non-stop services is required. However, the existing TCP session recovery techniques are inefficient because it has a high recovery cost or does not support failover operation, To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a TCP session recovery technique for high availability in smart on-devices. For this, we first recover the TCP session without re-establish the TCP session by correcting a sequence number and a acknowledgment number. Second, we synchronize the TCP session recovery data between the master and the server, and then we operate the failover operation when master server fails. Finally, we provide the non-stop service to peer by using the virtual IP number and the transmission of GARP (Gratuitous ARP) packet.
