An active clamp ZVS PWM forward converter using a secondary synchronous switch control is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter is suitable for low-voltage and high-current applications. The structure of the proposed converter is the same as a conventional active clamp forward converter. However, since it controls the secondary synchronous switch to build up the primary current during a very short period of time, the ZVS operation is easily achieved without any additional conduction losses of magnetizing current in the transformer and clamp circuit. Furthermore, there are no additional circuits required for the ZVS operation of power switches. Therefore, the proposed converter can achieve high efficiency with low EMI noise, resulting from soft switching without any additional conduction losses, and shows high power dens~ty, a result of high efficiency, and requires no additional components. The operational principle and design example are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve an excellent ZVS performance throughout all load conditions and demonstrates significant improvement in efficiency for the 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.

In this paper, We present a low cost auxiliary circuit of $S^4-PFC$converter with the feedback winding, which can improve the input current waveform with the maintenance of limited DC Bus Voltage and high efficiency. The converter with feedback winding was analyzed to demonstrate the proposed converter. Int order to verify the performance of the proposed converter, we designed the converter which operates at the output of 5[V], 65[W] and switching frequency of 100[kHz] within the universal line voltage. Implemented converter has decreased line current peak value by 50[%] compared with the conventional converters and the power utilization was increased in the line period.

Distributed stray inductance exerts a significant influence on the turn-off voltages of power switching devices. Therefore, the design of low stray inductance bus bars has become an important part of the design of high-power converters. In this study, we first analyze the operational principle and switching transient of a T-type converter. Then, we obtain the commutation circuit, categorize the stray inductance of the circuit, and study the influence of the different types of stray inductance on the turn-off voltages of switching devices. According to the current distribution of the commutation circuit, as well as the conditions for realizing laminated bus bars, we laminate the bus bar of the converter by integrating the practical structure of a capacitor bank and a power module. As a result, the stray inductance of the bus bar is reduced, and the stray inductance in the commutation circuit of the converter is reduced to more than half. Finally, a 10 kVA experimental prototype of a T-type converter is built to verify the effectiveness of the designed laminated bus bar in restraining the turn-off voltage spike of the switching devices in the converter.
A new family of DC to AC converters, referred to as multilevel inverter, has received much attention from industries and researchers for its high power and voltage applications. One of the conventional techniques for implementing the switching algorithm in these inverters is optimized harmonic stepped waveform (OHSW). However, the major problem in using this technique is eliminating low order harmonics by solving the nonlinear and complex equations. In this paper, a new approach called the "bacterial foraging algorithm" (BFA) is employed. This algorithm eliminates and optimizes the harmonics in a multilevel inverter. This method has higher speed, precision, and convergence power compared with the genetic algorithm (GA), a famous evolutionary algorithm. The proposed technique can be expanded in any number of levels. The purpose of optimization is to remove some low order harmonics, as well as to ensure the fundamental harmonic retained at the desired value. As a case study, a 13-level inverter is chosen. The comparison results by MATLAB software between the two optimization methods (BFA and GA) have shown the effectiveness and superiority of BFA over GA where convergence is desired to achieve global optimum.

This paper presents a Zero Voltage and Zero Current Switching (ZVZCS) 3-Level DC/DC converter. This converter overcomes the drawbacks presented by the conventional Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS) 3-Level converter, such as high circulating energy, severe parastic ringing on the rectifier diodes, and limited ZVS load range for the inner switches. The converter presented in this paper uses a phase shift control with a flying capacitor in the primary side to achieve ZVS for the outer switches. Additionally, the converter uses an energy recovery snubber to reset the primary current during the free-wheeling stage to achieve ZCS for the inner switches. The proposed converters are analyzed and verified on 6kW, 39kHz experimental prototype.

A DC-DC converter with digital controller is realized. the digital controller has several advantages such as robustness, fast design time, and high flexibility. however, since the DC-DC output voltage is analog, an analog-to-digital conversion scheme is always essential in all digital controllers. A simple and efficient delta-sigma modulator is used as a conversion scheme in out implementation. The measurement results show good voltage regulation

The ac side current of an high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter is characterized by highly non-sinusoidal waveform. If the harmonic current is allowed to flow in the connected ac system, it may cause unacceptable levels of distortion. Therefore, ac side filters are required as part of the total HVDC converter station, in order to reduce the harmonic distortion of the ac side current and voltage to acceptably low levels. The ac side filters are also employed to compensate network requested reactive power because HVDC converters also consume substantial reactive power. Among different types of filters, double-tuned filters have been widely utilized for HVDC system. This paper presents two design methods of double-tuned filter; equivalent method and parametric method. Using a parametric method, in particular the paper proposes a new design algorithm for a realistic system. Finally, the performance of the design algorithm is evaluated for a 80kV HVDC system in Jeju island with PSCAD/EMTDC program. The results cleary demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed design method in harmonics elimination and steady-state stability.

At the end of the 19th century, a battle known as the War of the Currents was fought over how electricity would be generated, delivered, and utilized. In this day and age, there has been a growing interest in Green Growth policies as countermeasures against global warming. As a result of these policies, the use of new and renewable energy needed a power converter to replace fossil fuels has expanded. To reduce power consumption through high efficiency of conversion, Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution systems are suggested as an alternative. In a DC distribution system, DC loads are very efficient due to decrease the stages of power conversion. If the LVDC distribution system is adopted, not only DC load but also existing AC loads should be connected with LVDC system. Thus, the modeling of two loads is needed to analyze the DC distribution system. This paper, especially, is focused on the modeling of resistive load and electronic load including power electronic converters using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) software.
Electric vehicles (EV) demands for greater acceleration, performance and vehicle range in pure electric vehicles plus mandated requirements to further reduce emissions in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) increase the appeal for combined on-board energy storage systems and generators. And the power electronics plays an important role in providing an interface between fuel cells (FC) and loads. This paper deals with a multiple input DC-DC power converter devoted to combine the power flowing of multi-source on energy systems. The multi-source is composed of (i) FC system as a prime power demands, (ii) super capacitor banks as energy storage devices for high and intense power demands, (iii) superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES), (iv) multiple input DC-DC power converter and (v) a three phase inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor as a drive. In this system, It is used super capacitor banks and superconducting magnetic energy replaces from the battery system. The modeling and transient performance simulation is effective for reducing transient influence caused by sudden charge of effective load. The main purpose of power electronic converters is to convert the DC power output from the fuel cell and other to a suitable AC voltage, which can be connected to electric loads directly (PMSM). The fuel cell and other output is connected to the DC-DC converter, which regulates the DC link voltage.

In this paper a bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed for renewable energy systems, eco-friendly vehicles, energy storage systems, uninterruptible power supply(UPS) systems and battery test equipments. The two-stage bidirectional converter employing a fixed-frequency series loaded resonant converter is designed to be capable of operating under zero-current-switching turn on and turn off regardless of voltage and load variation, and hence its magnetic components and EMI filters can be optimized. And efficiencies and volumes of the two-stage bidirectional converters are compared according to configuration of isolated and non-isolated parts and a two-stage topology suitable for low voltage and high current applications is proposed. A 12kW(12V, 1000A) prototype of the proposed converter has been built and tested to verify the validity of the proposed operation.
