Experimental study on the thermal charateristics according to the pre-load and cooling condition for the high speed spindle with grease lubrication (그리스윤활 고속주축의 예압과 냉각조건에 따른 열특성의 실험적 고찰)

  • The important problem in high speed spindles is to reduce and minimize the thermal effect by motor and bail bearings. Thermal characteristics according to the bearing pre-load and cooling condition are studied for the test spindl with grease lubrication and high frequency motor. Bearing and motor we main heat generation, and heat generation by ball bearings as a function of load, viscosity and gyroscopic moment effect are considered. Temperature distribution and thermal displacement according to the speed of spindle are measured by thermocouple and gap sensor. The results show that the fitting pre-load and cooling temperature are very effective to minimize the thermal effect by motor an ball bearings.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed HMC(horizontal machining center) with spindle speed of 30,000rpm and fried rate of 40m/min. The spindle speed is achieved by introducing angular contact ball bearings, oil-jet lubrication method, oil jacket cooling method, and so on. The spindle system is a motor-separated type composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by the flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front to and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution and heat flow under the various testing conditions related to spindle speed and feed rate.

  • The STW(servo track writing) system which is the process of writing servo signals on disks before assembling in drives uses the spindle motor-chuck mechanism to realize low cost because the spindle motor-chuck mechanism has merit which can simultaneously write multi-disk by piling up disks in hub. Therefore, when the spindle motor-chuck mechanism of horizontal type operates in high rotation speed it is necessary to reduce the effect of RRO(repeatable run-out) and NRRO(non-repeatable run-out) to achieve the high precision accuracy of nano-meter level during the STW process. In this paper, we analyzed that the slip in assembly surfaces can be caused by the mechanical tolerance and clamping force in hub-chuck mechanism and can affect NRRO performance. We designed springs for centering and clamping considering centrifugal force by the rotation speed and assembly condition. The experimental result showed NRRO performance improves about 30 % than case of weak clamping force. The result shows that the optimal design of the spindle motor-chuck mechanism can effectively reduce the effect of NRRO and RRO in STW process.

  • This paper proposes the thermal characteristics of motor integrated spindle on high precision lathe and investigates the thermal deformation and the running error of spindle. The deformation and the running error of spindle shaft are continuously measured by the gapsensor mounted on machine. The temperature distribution is measured bythe thermal vision system and the thermocouple. The results show that the running error of spindle is dependent on the rotational speed and the thermal deformation.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed HMC with spindle speed of 50,000rpm. The spindle is supported by two radial and axial magnetic bearings. and the built-in motor is located between the axial and rear radial magnetic bearings. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of servo-motor, ballscrew and linear motion guide. The thermal analysis model of high-speed HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on the temperature distribution and thermal deformation under the conditions related to the heat generation of built-in motor, magnetic bearings, linear motors, servo-motor, ballscrew, and so on.

  • The spindle unit is core parts in high precision machine tools. Diverse static, dynamic and thermal charateristics of spindle unit are needed for special purpose of machine tools. Compromise between those charateristics will be done in concept design phase. High static stiffness at spindle nose may be very important performance for heavy cutting work. High dynamic stiffness is also useful to high precision and high speed machine tools. Improvement of thermal charateristics in spindle lead to high reliability of positioning accuracy. For high speed spindle structure, the design parameter such as, bearing span, diameter, bearing type and arrangement, preload, cooling and lubrication method should be in harmony.

  • This paper presents a strategy to drive built in-type spindle induction motor which is used as CNC(Computer Numerical Control) in the industry. Gopinath model flux estimator which is composed of current model to be profitable in the low speed range and voltage model to be profitable in the high speed range is used for rotor flux estimation. Moreover this paper presents to drive the spindle motor in the high speed range by using the flux weakening control. High speed operation of spindle motor in the field weakening region is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, the authors propose a new high performance Built-in Type spindle motor drive using vector-controlled technique at 15,000 r/min. Control method is changed by variation of motor speed in a conventional Built-in type spindle drive. In the drive system to be presented, the conventional vector control is used in the low-speed range, and the vector control without encoder is used in the high-speed range. Furthermore, in order to drive the motor from 0 to 15,000 rpm smoothly, the vector control with encoder in the low-speed range (from 0 to 8,000 rpm) is utilized and the vector control without encoder in the high-speed range (from 8,000 to 15,000 rpm) is utilized.   • The demand of high speed machining is increasing because the high speed cutting providers high efficiency of process, short process time, improved metal removal capacity and better surface finish. Active magnetic bearings allow much high surface speed than conventional ball bearings and therefore greatly suitable for high speed cutting. The automatic control concept of magnetic bearing system provides ability of intelligent control of spindle system to increase accuracy and flexibility by means of adaptive vibration control. This paper describes a design and development of a milling spindle system which includes built-in motor with power 5.5㎾ and maximum speed 70,000rpm, HSK-32C tool holer and active magnetic bearing system. Magnetic actuators are designed for satisfying static load condition. The Performances of manufactured spindle system was examined for its static and dynamic stiffness, load capacity, and rotational accuracy. This spindle was run up to 70,000 rpm stably, which is 3.5 million DmN.
