A Study on Transport Protocol for High Speed Networking

  • There are emerging many eScience applications. More and more scientists want to collaborate on their investigation with international partners without space limitation by using these applications. Since these applications have to analyze the massive raw data, scientists need to send and receive the data in short time. So today's network related requirement is high speed networking. The key point of network performance is transport protocol. We can use TCP and UDP as transport protocol but we use TCP due to the data reliability. However, TCP was designed under low bandwidth network, therefore, general TCP, for example Reno, cannot utilize the whole bandwidth of high capacity network. There are several TCP variants to solve TCP problems related to high speed networking. They can be classified into two groups: loss based TCP and delay based TCP. In this paper, I will compare two approaches of TCP variants and propose a hybrid approach for high speed networking.

고속 통신망을 위한 개선된 반얀 스위치 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design of Modified Banyan Switch for High Speed Communication network)

  • In this paper, we propose a new architecture of the Banyan switch for a high speed networking and the high speed parallel computer. The proposed switching network with a remodeled architecture is a newly modified Banyan network with eight input and output pots, respectively. We have analysed the maximum throughput of the revised switch. Our analyses has shown that under the uniform random traffic load, the FIFO discipline is limited to 70%. Therefore the result of the analyses shows that the results of the networking simulation with the new switch are feasible and if we adopt such as new architecture of the revised model of the Banyan switch, the hardware complexity can be reduced. The FIFO discipline has increased about 11% when we compare the switching system with the input buffer system. We have designed and verified the new switching system in VHDL.

  • Recently, a study of Virtual-Reality becomes active. Expectation to 3-D reproduction technology rises with it. Electro-holography using Spatial-light-modulator attracts attention, because natural 3-D animated image is provided. It is important to execute hologram calculation at high speed to realize the real time electro-holography. In other words, a higher-speed computer and a study of calculation algorithm becomes an important subject. This time, we realized to fast calculation of Fresnel-Hologram by networking technology.

  • 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기술의 핵심은 데이터 센터이며 데이터 센터 내에서는 네트워킹 기술이 중요하다. 클라우드 데이터 센터에는 수만에서 수십만 개의 물리적 서버로 구성되어 있어서 높은 수준의 데이터 전송이 가능한 네트워킹 기술이 필요하다. 이러한 네트워킹 기술은 또한 확장성과 고장 감내성 등이 필요하며 민첩성이 필요하다. 이를 위해 다양한 다중 경로를 이용하는 기법이 제안되었다. 하지만 주로 부하 균형을 위한 기법이나 임의적으로 경로를 선택하는 데 사용되었다. 본 논문에서는 소프트웨어 정의 네트워킹 기술을 이용하여 다중 경로를 구성하고 다중 경로를 이용하여 트래픽을 병렬 전송함으로써 빠른 전송속도를 가져오며, 확장성 문제를 해결하고 고장 발생 시에 감내할 수 있는 기술을 제안한다.

A Novel High Speed Frequency Sweeping Signal Generator in X-band Based on Tunable Optoelectronic Oscillator

  • A novel X-band high speed frequency sweep signal generator based on a tunable optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) incorporating a frequency-swept laser is presented and the theoretical fundamentals of the design are explained. A prototype of the generator with tuning range from 8.8552 GHz to 10.3992 GHz and a fine step about 8 MHz is achieved. The generated radiofrequency signal with a single sideband (SSB) phase noise lower than -100 dBc/Hz@10KHz is experimentally demonstrated within the whole tunable range, without any narrow RF band-pass filters in the loop. And the tuning speed of the frequency sweep signal generator can reach to over 1 GHz/s benefiting from applying a novel dispersion compensation modular instead of several tens of kilometers of optical fiber delay line in the system.

  • 전 세계적으로 각 지역마다 정보화사회 건설을 위한 기간망 구축이 어느 정도 진척을 이루어오면서 최근의 초고속정보통신망 연결 문제는 결국 End-user 영역인 구내 또는 댁내통신(Home Networking)설비의 수용 능력과 그 접속기술에 관심이 모아지고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 현재 다양한 댁내통신기술들이 개발되고 표준화되어오고 있다. 댁내 정보통신기기들을 효과적으로 연결하는 Home Networking 기술은 네트워크 연결 형태와 운용기술을 제시하는 것이며 이 연결망을 댁내에 수용하려면 최적의 환경 구축 설계에 해당하는 댁내통신설비기술이 같이 고려되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 주로 최근의 Home Networking 기술들의 기술개발 동향, 표준화 동향, 시상 전망, 또 각 기술의 장단점 및 여용 추세 등을 분석하고 이러한 여러 가지 기술들의 적용 추세에 대비하여 향후 댁내통신설비기술이 어떠한 방향으로 나아가야 할 것인지를 제시해 된다.

SD-ICN: Toward Wide Area Deployable Software Defined Information Centric Networking

  • Information Centric Networking that uses content name instead of IP address as routing identifier can handle challenges such as traffic explosion and user mobility, but it also suffers from scalability and incompatibility problems. In this paper by combining the concept of software defined networking and Internet end to end arguments, we propose a wide area deployable software defined information centric networking service model named SD-ICN. SD-ICN employs a dual space structure that separates edge service network and core transmission network. The enhanced SDN techniques are used in edge service network in order to implement intelligent data routing and caching, while traditional IP technique is reserved in core transmission network so as to provide wide area high speed data transmission. Besides, a distributed name resolution system based on the cooperation of different controllers is also presented. The prototype experiments in our campus network show that SD-ICN can be deployed in a scalable and incremental way with no modification of the core network, and can support typical communication modes such as multicast, mobility, multihoming, load balancing, and multipath data transmission effectively.

  • In this paper, the results of field testing of high-speed power line in-home networking in Korea are reported. When multiple networks share a common channel, they can interfere destructively and reduce system capacity. This is major problem in-home power line communications, especially in MDU deployments. The effects of neighboring network interference in power line communications are reported.

  • A challenge faced by smart grid systems is providing highly reliable transmissions to better serve different types of electrical applications and improve the energy efficiency of the system. Although wireless networking technologies can provide high-speed and cost-effective solutions, their performance may be impaired by various factors that affect the reliability of smart grid networks. Here, we first suggest the use of IEEE 802.11s-based wireless LAN mesh networks as high-speed wireless backbone networks for smart grid infrastructure to provide high scalability and flexibility while ensuring low installation and management costs. Thereafter, we analyze some vital problems of the IEEE 802.11s default routing protocol (named hybrid wireless mesh protocol; HWMP) from the perspective of transfer reliability, and propose appropriate solutions with a new routing method called HWMP-reliability enhancement to improve the routing reliability of 802.11s-based smart grid mesh networking. A simulation study using ns-3 was conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed schemes.

  • Due to the rapid spread of high speed Internet access and the contents digitization, the demand for the copyright protection of digital contents has increased continuously so that the digital rights protection technology becomes one of the inevitable components in the digital content providing services. This paper describes the current trend of DRM(Digital Rights Management) technology and how to implement the system for the protection of digital assets in the digital home networking environment.
