  • Despite the high efficiency of nuclear power plant, people in Korea do not give approvals and supports the facilities because the risk of the accidents and incidents. In particular, the low level of safety culture is a crucial mechanism that damages the robustness of the NPP. By considering the various definitions of safety culture and analyzing the major reasons of incidents, the conceptual safety culture model is made by using Causal Loop Diagramming. For sustaining development of nuclear power, social supports, incentives and organizational learning are needed. It also requires the coordination of work schedules and the expansion of human resource for protecting the rules and procedures in NPP. Decommissioning aging nuclear power plants will prevent a serious accident. In order to promote the safety culture, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation should disclose more information to the public and promote the internal and external communications.

  • We investigated the culture condition and effects of various growth factors on the culture of salivary gland acinar cells. Male, Sprague-Dawley rats (about 6 weeks old) were sacrificed and their submandibular, sublingual, and parotid glands were used as specimens. High oxygen level more than 90% and coating of Matrigel on culture dish were important factors to help increase the survival time of acinar cells, Proper concentration of enzymes such as collagenase and hyaluronidase during isolation steps was also important. Addition of various growth factors such as dexamethasone, insulin, transferrin, selenous acid, reduced glutathione, epidermal growth factor, isoproterenol, and putrescine in culture medium helped to increase lifetime of cultured salivary acinar cells.

  • To enhance the productivity and activity of nitrile hydratase in Rhodococcus rhodochrous M33, a glucose-limited fed-batch culture was performed. In a fed-batch culture where the glucose was controlled at a limited level and cobalt was supplemented during the fermentation period, the cell mass and total activity of nitrile hydratase both increased 3.3-fold compared to that in the batch fermentation. The productivity of nitrile hydratase also increased 1.9-fold compared to that in the batch fermentation. The specific activity of nitrile hydratase in the whole cell preparation when using a fed-batch culture was 120 units/mg-DCW, which was similar to that in the batch culture.

  • This study was conducted to compare the shoot development and fruit characteristics on fruit bearing branch (FBB) according to the fruiting level (FLs: FL-Low, -Middle, -High) of peach 'Cheonhong'. The number of shoots per FBB according to the FLs were most distributed in 1-2 (42%) of FL-Low, 1 (47%) of FL-Middle and 1 (42%) of FL-High. And fruit weight and soulable solide content were 210-270g (50%) and 10-12Brix (44%), 180-240g (60%) and 10-12Brix (59%), 180-240g (60%) and 11-13Brix (48%), respectively. In addition, only FL-High showed a linear regression correlation between fruit weight and number of shoots. And a linear regression equation of y=0.0126x+8.1857 (R2=0.1964, P≤0.01) is shown between the souble solid content (y) and the fruit weight (x).

  • The production of astaxanthin by Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous mutant depended on the culture conditions. Therefore, a cultivation strategy, including effective chemical and light induction, for the high-level production of astaxanthin by X. dendrorhous mutant JH1 was explored. Effective chemicals such as ethanol, acetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide, which are known inducers or precursors of astaxanthin synthesis, were investigated for their increase of astaxanthin production. Each of 1.0% ethanol, 1.0% acetic acid, and 1.0% hydrogen peroxide increased the astaxanthin concentration to 49.77 mg/l, 46.33 mg/l, and 45.61 mg/l, respectively. Among these chemicals, 1.0% ethanol showed the best effect on increasing astaxanthin concentration after 48 h of cultivation. Under 1.0% ethanol feeding condition, high light intensity (2,400 lux) stimulated astaxanthin production to 59.67 mg/l, compared with that in the dark-grown cultivation.

  • We developed the equipment palpating cell proliferation using a high brightness LED. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a high brightness LED, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, intensity, frequency and so on. Especially, to control the light irradiation frequency, FPGA was used, and to control the change of output value, TLC5941 was used. Control stage is divided into 30 levels by program. Consequently, the current value could be controlled by the change of level in Continue Wave(CW) and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM), and the output of a high brightness LED could be controlled stage by stage.

  • Culture means a lifestyle realizing a definite object or ideal. Each local special culture is enormous in value as a local culture inheritance. If it is developed a local culture products representing local culture, it can perform an important role on one of the strategies for revitalizing local economy. One of the typical cultures in Kyung-Nam is the Gaya culture. The most characteristic of the Gaya culture is powerful iron culture and lots of cultural properties have been founding as relics. Judging from a lot of iron relics, we can figure out a high level of iron manufacturing technology. I studied focussing on the plasticity of Gaya relics and collected base materials for developing local cultural goods, using the motif of Gaya culture with excellent aesthetic consciousness. I classfied Gaya relics into a crown style, jewelry, harnessry, weapons, armor, earthenware, and considered its characteristic of the plastic arts, based on the preceding studies and document data. There exists natural, moderate, polished, indigenous, simple, rhythmical, delicate, florid, technical, symbolical, strong, diverse, naive beauty in the plastic characteristic of Gaya relics. Gaya culture with the special excellence of aesthetic resources, is worthy enough to be recreated as local cultural goods. Variable and special cultural fashion-products with the distinctive feature of Gaya culture need to be developed without delay.

  • As the number of immigrants staying in Korea has gradually increased since the mid-1990s, the rate of chronicle migration from certain countries such as China and Vietnam remain high. Registered foreign residents have formed ethnic communities depending on their countries of origin, and the purpose of stay, Korean language literacy, rent, and accessibility have resulted in their self-congregation or forced segregation. This study aims to explore the direction in which immigrants' residential distribution move over time, and whether the ethnic communities show any differences in the level of congregation or segregation. It focuses on identifying the residential distribution of Korean-Chinese, Chinese, and Vietnamese at the city, county, and district level across the country in Korea and examining the congregation and residential changes of three groups over the past decade using centrographic method. Comparing the location as well as the level of residential congregation or dispersion of three groups, which account for the majority of non-professional immigrants in Korea, it will provide a basis for further research on residential congregation or segregation of immigrants in the future.

  • This study was attempted to grasp the push-pull factors of urban to rural migrants in relation to services and infrastructure of rural welfare and culture. Online and offline survey were conducted for urban residents who were willing to return to the rural area and those who were already returning to the rural area. In the fields of health care, social welfare, and education, it was found that the satisfaction level of urban-to-rural migrants was relatively higher than those of latent urban-to-rural migrants. In the field of culture, leisure and sports, the level of satisfaction and concern were similar, so it was found that the expectations for the field were relatively high before returning rural area. As for the agreement degree to expand support, the demand for emergency medical facilities and dementia care program was the highest, and the demand for health care was found to be relatively high. The results of the survey on the top priority items indicate that latent urban-to-rural migrants require support of facility and space item and expansion of program item, and urban-to-rural migrants have high demand for expansion of program item in all field except healthcare field. The results of this study are expected to provide useful information for establishing the direction of the rural area development project in connection with the revitalization of policy of people return to rural area.
