  • Recently, as the building structure has been larger, higher, longer and more specialized, the demand of material with high-strength concrete for building has been increasing. In this research, silica-fume was used as an admixture in order to get a high-strength concrete. From the test result, High-strength concrete with cylinder strength of 1,200kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in 28-days was produced and tested. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns and fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained from the static test. The relation of cycle loading to deflections on the mid-span, the crack propagation and the modes of failure according to cycle number, fatigue life and S-N curve were observed through the fatigue test. Based on the fatigue test results, high-strength reinforced concrete beams failed to 57~66 percent of the static ultimate strength. Fatigue strength about two million cycles from S-N curves was certified by 60 percent of static ultimate strength.

  • The leak-before-break (LBB) behaviors of a structural component under high and low fatigue loads are an important problem in nuclear power plants, liquid nitrogen gas tankers and chemical plants. This paper is an experimental study to evaluate the crack opening behavior after penetration for plate and pipe specimens. Crack opening displacement after penetration under low fatigue load could be satisfactorily determined at the center of the plate thickness regardless of the specimen size. In the case of high fatigue load, it is shown that the crack opening displacement at the center of a penetrated crack carl be derived using the gross stress, $\sigma$/sug G/, and the front surface crack length, a$\_$s/, together with the back surface crack length, a$\_$b/.

  • The lightness of components required on marine and shipbuilding industry is requiring high strength of components. In particular, fatigue failure phenomena, which happen in metal, bring on danger in human life and property. Therefore, antifatigue failure technology takes an important part of current industries. In this study, it was investigated about endurance and fatigue crack propagation rate of according to stress ratio of SMAW commonly using for welding structures in present. Fatigue crack propagation rate(da/dN) of low load(R=0.1) was lower than of high load(R=0.6) for piping weld. And in stage I, ${\Delta}$Kth, the threshold stress intensity factor of the weld under heavy load is higher than under small load. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the weld of stress ratio R=0.l than in the weld of stress ratio R=0.6.

  • Fatigue strength of high strengthsteels are variable with many different surface treatment. It is well known that residual compressive stress retard fatigue crack growth rate(or arrest crack). High strngth steels are manufactured by following process. Heat treatment, shot peening and chromium plating process. High strength steel(HRC40 or above) which are subjected to fatigue load and dynamic load, chromium plated parts shall be peened in accordance with requirements and baked after plating. The purpose of this paper is to compare and discuss the influence of surface treatment and hydrogen embrittlement on fatigue strength of high strength steel. Therefore, fatigue test was performed to investigate influence of surface treatment. The results shows that shot peening is very effect method in creasing fatigue life and after plating, baking process is essential to prevent hydogen failure. In this paper, the experimental investigation is made to clarify the influence of shot peening conditions and baking process on fatigue strength of high strength steel.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive integrity assessment of welded structural components, including uniform high- and low-cycle fatigue assessment of welded plate joints and fatigue-induced fracture assessment of welded plate joints. This study reports a series of fatigue and fracture tests of welded plate joints under three-point bending. To unify the assessment protocol for high- and low-cycle fatigue of welded plate joints, this study develops a numerical damage assessment framework for both high- and low-cycle fatigue. The calibrated damage material parameters are validated through the smooth coupon specimens. The proposed damage-based fatigue assessment approach describes, with reasonable accuracy, the total fatigue life of welded plate joints under high- and low-cycle fatigue actions. Subsequently, the study performs a tearing assessment on the ductile crack extension of the fatigue-induced crack. The tearing assessment diagram derives from the load-deformation curve of a single-edge notched bend, SE(B) specimen and successfully predicts the load-crack extension relation for the reported welded plate joints during the stable tearing process.

  • Fatigue behavior of shear joints between the combined reinforced concrete(RC) and the reinforced steel fiber concrete(SFRC) specimens has been experimentally investigated. Experimental parameters used are the amount of steel fiber and the type of shear joint. Six specimens have been tested under static load, and eight specimens have been subjected to the fatigue load in a range of 50 % and 5 % of the ultimate static load. The purpose of this research is to propose an empirical formula for fatigue shear behavior of the combined RC and SFRC structures on the basis of experimental result. It can be observed from experimental results that addition of steel fibers to concrete specimen increases the static ultimate load by approximately 25 %, enhances the fatigue behavior, and also reduces vertical and lateral displacements at the shear joint for a given load cycle after the occurrence of first crack.

  • In this study, The fatigue properties of the GFRP composite panels of which core was made of the polymer mortar and both facings were reinforced by the high-tensile GFRP were surveyed. Composite-panel specimens consisted of polymer mortar core and GFRP compressive and tensile sides with various thickness were produced for an experimental study. Flexural fatigue tests were conducted to examine the correlation between the fatigue load and the fatigue life for various thickness of core and facings, and its results are presented. The correlation obtained in this study between the fatigue load and the fatigue life for various thickness arc in good agreement with the modified Miner's law.

  • Fatigue crack growth rates in commercial plate of high strength Al 7075-T651 were investigated for the T-L direction in air, water and sea water. In this paper the effect of cyclic load wave-form(trapezoid and triangle) on fatigue crack growth rates in air, water and sea water environments were investigated using standard LEFM testing procedures. It was founded that the fatigue crack growth behaviors were not affected by cyclic load wave-forms. In region II (stable crack growth region), the fatigue crack growth behaviors were insensitive to cyclic load wave-forms and were sensitive to environment i.e. fatigue crack growth behaviors were higher in sea water than in air for all cyclic load wave-form. The result of fractographical morphology in air, water and sea water by SEM showed obvious dimple rupture and typical striation in air, but transgranular fracture surface in water and sea water. The values m are not affected by corrosion environments but C are different values.

  • This paper reviewed characteristics of fatigue crack behavior observed by changing various shapes of initial crack and magnitudes of loading in compact tension shear(CTS) specimen subjected to shear loading. In the high-loading condition, fatigue crack under shear loading propagated branching from the pre-crack tip. Meanwhile, the secondary fatigue crack in the low-loading condition which was created in the notch root due to friction on the pre-crack face grew to a main crack. Influenced by the mode II loading condition, fatigue crack propagation retardation appeared in the initial propagation region due to the reduction of crack driving force and friction on crack face. In both cases, however, fatigue cracks grew in tensile mode type. Propagation path of fatigue crack under the shear loading was 70 degree angle from the initial crack regardless of its shape and load magnitude.

  • Spring is one of major suspension part of the light commercial vehicle (LCV). In the manufacturing process it is shot-peened to improve its fatigue strength. In this paper, residual stresses by shot peening were calculated through finite element analysis, and the effects of these residual stresses on fatigue strength of leaf spring were evaluated. Fatigue tests were performed with two kinds of specimens; one is actual leaf spring assembly, and the other is simulated 3-point bending specimen. Fatigue tests were performed under the loading condition that was measured on the proving ground. From the results, the maximum load-fatigue life relation of leaf spring was defined, and test results of 3 point bending specimen are in good agreement with those of leaf spring assembly. The effects of residual stresses by shot peening on fatigue strength of leaf spring is not large in the high load range, however, in the low load range, its effects were not negligible.
