Background: safety and healthy working environment has received numerous research attention over the years. Majority of these researches seem to have been conducted in the construction industry, with little attention in the health sector. Nonetheless, there are couple of studies conducted in Africa that suggest pressure in hospitals. Therefore the aim of the study was to examine how pressure influence safety behavior in the hospitals. With reference to the relevance of safety behavior in primary health care delivery, there was the need for the study. Method: Data was obtained from 422 public hospital employees. Respondents were assured that all information would be kept confidential to increase the response rate and acquire more accurate information. Collection of questionnaires from participants took four weeks (20 working days), after which the data was analyzed. Results: The result of the study showed that work pressure correlated negatively with safety behavior. General safety climate significantly correlated positively with safety behavior and negatively with work pressure, although the effect size for the latter was smaller. Hierarchical regression analysis showed management commitment to safety to moderate the relationship between work pressure and safety behavior. Conclusion: When employees perceive safety communication, safety systems and training to be positive, they seem to comply with safety rules and procedures than voluntarily participate in safety activities.

In this paper, anew parallel processing system based on a cluster architecture which provides scalability of a parallel processing system while maintains shared memory multiprocessor characteristics is proposed. In recent days low cost, high performnce microprocessors have led to construction of large scale parallel processing systems. Such parallel processing systems provides large scalability but are mainly used for scientific applications which have large data parallelism. A shared memory multiprocessor system like TICOM is currently used as aserver for the commercial application, however, the shared memory multiprocessor system is known to have very limited scalability. The proposed architecture can support scalability and performance of the parallel processing system while it provides adaptability for the commerical application, hence it can overcome the limitation of the shared memory multiprocessor. The architecture and characteristics of the proposed system shall be described. A proprietary hierarchical crsossbar network is designed for this system, of which the protocol, routing and switching technique and the signal transfer technique are optimized for the proposed architecture. The design trade-offs for the network are described in this paper and with simulation usihng the SES/workbench, it is explored that the network fits to the proposed architecture.

In this paper GFI (Generalized Fuzzy Isodata) and FI (Fuzzy Isodata) algorithms are studied and applied
to the tire tread pattern classification problem. GFI algorithm which repeatedly grouping the partitioned
cluster depending on the fuzzy partition matrix is general form of GI algorithm. In the constructing the binary
tree using GFI algorithm cluster validity, namely, whether partitioned cluster is feasible or not is
checked and construction of the binary tree is obtained by FDH clustering algorithm. These algorithms
show the good performance in selecting the prototypes of each patterns and classifying patterns.
Directions of edge in the preprocessed image of tire tread pattern are selected as features of pattern.
These features are thought to have useful information which well represents the characteristics of
patterns.

The south-western part of Korea is situated in an unbalance of water supply and demand relating to the Keum, Mankyung, Dongjin and Youngsan River and their estuary reservoirs. For example, the Keum River estuary reservoir is discharging the larger amount of yearly runoff into the sea due to the small storage capacity, while Saemankeum estuary reservoir which is under construction, has the smaller runoff amount comparing with its storage capacity, And the downstream area of the Youngsan River, such as Youngkwang, Youngam are deficient in water due in larger demand and smaller supply. In order to solve the above unbalanced water supply and demand and also to improve the water use efficiency, the Hierarchical Operation Model for Multi-reservoir System(HOMMS) has been developed and applied to analyze the multi-reservoir operation assuming that the above reservoirs were linked each other. The result of this study shows that 2,148MCM of annual additional water requirement for agricultural and rural water demands are required in this region at 2011 of target year, and these demands can be resolved by diverting and reusing 1,913MCM of the released water from the estuary reservoirs into the sea.
The purpose of this study is to propose cognitive ecological effects of fractal patterns in space design. This study investigated the perception and cognition problems regarding landscape patterns showing fractal properties from the cognitive perspective instead of the traditional speculative approach. In particular, the researcher has verified that fractal geometry theory and fractal pattern concept provide insight in space aesthetic values and cognitive effects. Research results are as follows. First, most environmentally-friendly fractal urban forms provide cognitive connectivity. In particular, this space provides a positive emotional response and preference to humans and displays self-organized complexity. This study found that such complexity of space form has characteristics corresponding to parallel cognitive structures of the human brain. Simultaneously, the researcher suggests that the fractal landscape pattern is an alternative for stiff and homogenized modern space. Second, fractal patterns provide hierarchical connectivity within the brain through continuous difference and repetition. In particular, self-similarities of fractal patterns administer significant visual grouping and coherence in human perception. It can be determined whether scaling coherence facilitates easier organization in cognitive organization. Third, fractal patterns in space design provide the basic method for achieving the connection between concept, construction, and urban factors. As a result, the researcher has suggested that scale distribution of geometrical factors, such as fractal patterns, an be a design method to connect various space typologies.

This study aims to examine curvilinearly moderating effects of task interdependence on the relationship between demographic faultlines and group performance. It posits that the degree of task interdependence has an impact on the effects of demographic faultlines. It was conducted in six organizations in Korea, their industries including heavy industries, hospital, construction, petrochemical, fine chemicals, and system integration. The survey was distributed to 1330 individuals in 162 teams and 1082 individuals in 137 teams responded to the questionnaire. To test the hypotheses including nonlinear interactions, we conducted a hierarchical regression analysis to the survey data from 82 groups within six firms in Korea. The results show that for groups that experience a high level of task interdependence, the slope for the regression of demographic faultlines on group performance is comparatively low and, at the low level of task interdependence, insignificant. However, at intermediate levels of task interdependence, the association was strongly negative and significant. This study finds that the negative relationship between demographic faultlines and group performance is stronger when task interdependence is moderate than when task interdependence is high or low. Therefore, managers should pay attention to optimal group design by carefully assigning tasks in diverse and divided groups.
This paper deals with the development of h-version adaptive mesh refinement and recovery strategy using variable-node elements and its application to various engineering field problems with 2D quadrilateral and 3D hexahedral models. The variable-node elements which have variable mid-side nodes on edges or faces are effectively used in overcoming some problems in connecting the different layer patterns of the transition zone between the refined and coarse mesh. A modified recovery technique of gradients adequate for variable-node elements and proper selection of error norms for each engineering field problems are proposed. In the region in which the error is greater than the permissible refinement error, the mesh is locally refined by subdivision. Reversely, in some parts of the domain having the error smaller than the permissible recovery error, the mesh is locally recovered (coarsened) by combination. Hierarchical structures (e.g. quadtrees and octrees) and element-based storage structures are composed to perform this adaptive process of refinement and recovery. Some numerical examples of a 3D heat conduction analysis of the concrete with hydration heat and a 2D flow analysis of vortex shedding show effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme.
The paper demonstrates that holon networks can be used effectively for identification of nonlinear dynamical systems. The emphasis of the paper is on modeling of complicated systems which have a great deal of uncertainty and unknown interactions between their elements and parameters. The concept of applying a quantitative model building, for example, to environmental or ecological systems is not new. In a previous paper we presented a holon network model as an another alternative to quantitative modeling. Holon networks have a hierarchical construction where each level of hierarchy consists of networks with reciprocal actions among their elements. The networks are able to evolve by self-organizing their structure and adapt their parameters to environments. This was achieved by an autonomous decentralized adaptation algorithm. In this paper we propose a new emergent evolution algorithm. In this algorithm the initial holon networks consists of only a few elements and it grows gradually with each new observation in order to fit their function to the environment. Some examples show that this algorithm can lead to a network structure which has sufficient flexibility and adapts well to the environment.

We propose 3-layered hierarchical fiber-optic backbone transmission network composed of B-DCS, Backbone ring, Edge ring for efficient transmission of high capacity traffic and consider design method to ensure network survivability of each layer at affordable cost. Mathematical ring-construction cost minimization using MIP(Mixed Integer Programming) models results in NP-complete problem. So, it is hard to solve it within reasonable computing time. on a large-scale network. Therefore we develop heuristic algorithms solving WSCAP(Working and Spared Channel Assignment Problem) for B-DCS, MRLB(Multi-Ring Load Balancing) problem for Backbone ring, and ORLB(Overlayed Ring Load Balancing) problem for Edge ring and show their usefulness through case study.

A new system for three dimensional object recognition is proposed in an attempt to overcome the lack of accuracy and flexibility, the essential problem at which model-based recognition technique faces. Hierarchical data base was designed to manage a number of features efficiently which are extracted for the purpose of matching by the system and to provide information necessary to match systema6tically. The results of matching, in turn, is fed back to the data base, and stored in. The recognition is done by saving the results on higher level of hierachical data base.
