  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effect of short- term admission program on primary palmar/plantar hyperhidrosis in children and adolescents. Methods : Between January 2011 and January 2012, a total of 11 patients with clinical diagnosis of primary palmar/plantar hyperhidrosis were treated with hospitalization which consisted of iontophoresis, electro-acupuncture, herbal medicine, topical therapy and physical therapy. The effects were evaluated as quality of life with dermatology life quality index (DLQI), severity of discomfort using visual analogue scale (VAS), and the patients' subjective satisfaction. We analyzed the patients' improvement before and after admission treatment, as well as six month later. Results : After treatment, the 11 patients' quality of life and severity of discomfort improved significantly. They also were satisfied with oriental treatments for hyper hidrosis. Six months later, 6 of 11 patients had visited the hyperhidrosis clinic. Their symptoms had improved and remained stable. Conclusions : The short-term admission program is effective on primary palmar/plantar hyperhidrosis. Further studies with a larger number of cases will be needed in the future.

Methods: We applied acupuncture, herbal medication, western medication, and physical therapy routinely every day and applied fluid therapy provided as needed. The NIHSS, K-MBI, MRS, MMT, and MMSE-K score were determined to assess any improvement in symptoms. Results: Scores appeared to be improved for the NIHSS (9 to 5), K-MBI (94 to 100), MRS (2 to 1), MMT (2+, 4 to 4, 4), MMSE-K (24 to 26). No side effects were observed during the treatment. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that integrative treatment with conventional and Korean medicine may be an effective option for treating cerebral infarction due to a presumed paradoxical embolism through a patent foramen ovale.

Methods: A prospective comparative design was used. Data were collected from May 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009 from 85 elderly patients with degenerative arthritis in the lower extremities who were followed in a hospital out-patient department for 8 weeks. The integrated care service group (n=36) received a combination of physical therapy, acupuncture, western medicines or herbal medicines, and the western care group (n=49) received physical therapy or western medicines. Functional independence, walking speed, rotation balance, pain intensity, service satisfaction and total medical costs for the two groups were compared at 8 weeks. Results: Functional independence (t=2.14, p=.036) and walking speed (t=2.51, p=.014) improved significantly in the integrated care group while pain intensity improved significantly in the western care group (t=3.35, p=.002). The integrated care group reported higher scores for service satisfaction (t=2.09, p=.041) and higher medical costs than the western care group (t=2.15, p=.035). Conclusion: The results suggest that integrated care services are effective modalities to improve mobility and quality of life for elders with degenerative arthritis.

  • The objective of this study is to report an accidental detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis to spine during conservative treatment for lumbar disc herniation. We treated a 65-year-old female who was diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation on September 2019 by acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, cupping treatment, chuna manual therapy, herbal medicine treatment, medicine treatment and physical therapy. After that we analyzed medical record from December 12, 2019 to February 11, 2020. The patient was diagnosed with CRC and received tumor resection in 2014. After 2 times of chemotherapy, she arbitrarily interrupted the treatment. Since she stated that CRC treatment was terminated, we had difficulty in finding connection between symptom and CRC. During the treatment period, compression fracture at L3 body was found, which was caused by CRC metastasis. Rigorous question, appropriate radiological and clinical tests are required to patients who have history of malignant tumor.

  • The authors are using Qi-diagnosis (integrated diagnosis by bio-energy) that is a method of diagnosis and treatment. We applied Qi-diagnosis to the main study to lay the foundation and framework for research and education about the Korean Medicine. The authors try to describe systemically and specifically the Qi-diagnosis that the authors are using in clinical diagnosis ane treatment so that anyone can use it. The authors have been able to grasp the flow of human bio-energy through years of training. It has had many effects by applying the Qi-diagnosis to patients. The steps of the bio-energy flow have become objective. And the authors have been applied to acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, bruising treatment and anthrax anesthesia in clinical through the Qi-diagnosis. Also, it is applied to the life management of patients. It is applied to arts such as music therapy and art therapy. The deeper the depth of the Qi-diagnosis, the greater the opportunity to utilize the Qi-diagnosis. The Qi-diagnosis is the origin of the korean medicine. It was able to make diagnosis and treatment correct and to establish clues that the medical problems would be solved through the Qi-diagnosis. In order to do so, the diagnostician must be able to feel the auricular flow of the body accurately and objectively. In addition, he must have a comprehensive understanding of the overall framework of medicine. As a result, diagnosis and treatment of the patient as well as general problems of the patient can be identified and advised, so comprehensive treatment is possible. And it is not only a specific person can do it, but it is a diagnostic method that anyone can take if they take the basic steps step by step.
