Effects of a Microbial Enzyme Supplementation on the Performance of Laying Hens Fed Diets Containing Different Levels of Wheat

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of a microbial enzyme (Roxazyme-$G^{(R)}$), a multicarbohydrases preparation, supplementation to the wheat-based layer diets. Diets were formulated to include different levels of wheat replacing yellow corn on isocaloric and isonitrogenous basis. The energy value of wheat in the enzyme supplemented diets was adjusted (spec-modified) to have 5% more ME than the wheat in diets without enzyme. A total of 864 Hy-$Line^{(R)}$ brown layers were assigned to 4 dietary treatments: 10% wheat (T1), 25% wheat (T2), 25% wheat (spec-modified)+ 0.01 % Roxazyme-$G^{(R)}$ (T3), and all wheat (spec-modified)+0.01% Roxazyme-$G^{(R)}$ (T4). Hen-day egg productions of T1 and T4 were significantly (p < 0.05) greater than that of T2 but not different from T3. Hen-housed egg production of T4 was significantly (p < 0.01) greater than those of T1 and T3 but not different from T2. Egg weights of T1 and T2 were significantly (p < 0.0 1) greater than that of T4. Feed consumption of T2 was significantly (p < 0.01) lower than other treatments. Feed conversion ratio (feed/egg mass) was not significantly different among treatments. Eggshell thickness of T1 was significantly (p < 0.01) greater than other treatments but ratio of broken eggs was not significantly different among treatments. Haugh unit of T4 was significantly greater (p < 0.05) than that of T2. Egg yolk color was significantly (p < 0.01) influenced by treatments in which enzyme treatment potentiated the yolk pigmentation. It was concluded that a multi-carbohydrases supplementation enables complete replacement of yellow com with wheat without loss of productivity and major egg quality parameters.

Effects of conjugated linoleic acid on the performance of laying hens, lipid composition of egg yolk, egg flavor, and serum components

  • Objective: This experiment investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on the serum components, laying hen productivity, lipid composition of egg yolk, egg flavor and egg quality. Methods: Healthy 28-week-old Hy-Line white laying hens (n = 480) were divided randomly into 4 groups, 6 replicates/group, 20 birds/replicate. The 30-day experimental diets included 0% (control), 0.4%, 0.8%, and 1.6% CLA. Some serum indices of the birds, and egg production, quality, fatty acid composition, egg quality were measured. Results: The dietary supplementation with 0.4%, 0.8%, and 1.6% CLA did not significantly affect the laying rate and feed intake, as well as calcium ion and phosphorus ion concentration in serum (p>0.05). However, the CLA had significantly increased the strength of eggshell, decreased the odor, flavor, and taste of egg yolk, deepened the color of egg yolk, increased saturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids, and reduced the monounsaturated fatty acids (p<0.05). On the other hand, the dietary supplementation with 1.6% CLA had significant effects on feed/gain, and improved serum hormones. Dietary supplementation with 0.4% and 0.8% CLA can significantly enhance the activity of alkaline phosphates. Conclusion: CLA has no effect on production performance, but does enhance the lipid content of the egg yolk and the strength of the eggshell.

  • Poultry welfare has recently appeared as worldwide concern as well as Korea. The recent action plan for farm animal welfare introduced by the European Commission intends to expand the body of regulatory standards. In this context, many countries and/or organization are on the verge of establishing the most optimum poultry welfare standards. To establish the most optimum standards, comparative analysis of feeding regimen before and after welfare-bestowed environment need to be preceded. Most guidelines or standards for poultry welfare do not suggest the nutritional requirements and feeding system in detail, although it is deterimental especially for the farmer. This review intends to find scientific base to establish detailed welfare feeding guidelines. However, only limited research has been conducted in the view of actual poultry welfare. The results indicated the incidence of SDS, ascites, skeletal dysfunctions caused by fast growth rate in broiler, feather pecking and cannibalism in laying hen, and feed restriction in broiler breeder could be reduced by changing nutritional regimen and feeding strategies or both. The regimen and feeding strategies are certainly near to the direction that the poultry welfare ought to be in the right track. In this article, feeding and drinking guidelines in many standards as well as welfare feeding experiments have been reviewed and compared In the view of chicken productivity, welfare physiology and poultry health.

Effects of dietary palm kernel meal and β-xylanase on productive performance, fatty liver incidence, and excreta characteristics in laying hens

  • The objective of the present experiment was to investigate the effect of dietary palm kernel meal (PKM) and β-xylanase supplementation on productive performance, egg quality, fatty liver incidence, and excreta characteristics in laying hens. A total of 320 Hy-Line Brown laying hens (33 weeks of age) were allotted to 1 of 4 treatments with 8 replicates in a feeding trial. Each replicate consisted of 10 consecutive cages with 1 hen per cage. The corn-soybean meal-based control diet was prepared. Additional diet was prepared by including 10% of PKM in the control diet with a partial replacement of corn, soybean meal, and animal fat. In addition, 0.025% β-xylanase was supplemented at the expense of celite to those 2 diets to produce 4 treatment diets in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. All hens were provided the diet and water ad libitum for 8 weeks. Results indicated no significant interactions between inclusion of dietary PKM and β-xylanase for all measurements; therefore, the main effects were mainly discussed. Hens fed diets containing 10% PKM had greater (p < 0.05) feed intake and yolk color than those fed diets containing no PKM. However, dietary PKM did not influence fatty liver incidence and excreta characteristics. Dietary β-xylanase supplementation had no effects on all measurements, regardless of inclusion of PKM. In conclusion, PKM can be a potential feed ingredient for laying hens at the inclusion of 10% in the diet. It appears that dietary β-xylanase used in the current experiment has little effect on layer productivity, regardless of inclusion of 10% PKM in the diet.

노폐계육의 생산성 및 가공특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Meat Productivity and Functional Properties of Spent Hens)

  • 부화후 20개월된 백색케그혼종 산란노폐계 60수를 무작위로 10수씩, 6개 군으로 나누어 도계처리하고 가식계육을 얻어, 산육성과 육제품원료육으로서의 가공적성을 측정 조사한바, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 평균 생체중은 1,576.7g이였으며, 도체중은 998.9g(63.4%), 가식내장육량은 75.3g(4.8 g)인바, 이를 합친 판매(R.T.C)형 계육량은 1,074.2g(68.2%)으로, 불가식도계 부산물량은 502.5g (31.8%) 였다. 2. 도체 (평균중량 998.9g)의 부위별분할육량은 각각 두 41.0g(4.1%), 익 135.9g(13.6%), 흉 276.7g(27.7%), 고경 323.6g(32.4%), 배 176.1g(17.6%)였으며, 분활감량은 45.6g(4.6%)였다. 3. 뇌 및 고경부터의 가식근육량은 각각 241.1g 및 274.2.g, 도합 515.4g으로 분할육량대 85.86%, 도체량대 51.6%, 생체중대 32.7%였다. 4. 가식근육량(515.4g)과 가식내장육량(75.3g) 합친 수당가식육량은 590.7g으로 생체중대 37.5%였다. 5. 뇌근의 수분, 단백질 및 지방함량은 각각 72.95%, 20.54% 및 15.9%였고, 고경근은 각 71.9%, 19.12% 및 3.96%였으며, 또 뇌근과 고경근의 수분ㆍ단백화는 각각 3.55 및 3.76이였다. 6. 뇌근과 그경근의 염예성단백질은 각각 7.97% 및 6.26%였고, 이의 전단백질에 대한 농도(%)는 각각 38.8% 및 32.4%였으며, 또 이들의 유화력(oil $m\ell$/100$m\ell$) 은 각각 4.37$m\ell$ 및 43.23$m\ell$로 단백질의 량과 질적으로 고경근보다 뇌근이 우수하였다. 7. 뇌근과 고 근의 보수력은 각각 54.23% 및 52.61%로 적시 뇌근이 높은편이었다.

직립식 산란계사 내의 소음 진동 발생 현황 조사연구 (Study on the Characteristics of Noise/Vibration in the Upright Laying Hen House)

  • 국민의 소득 증대로 인해 육류 및 계란의 소비량이 점차적으로 증가하는 추세에 있다. 이로 인해 산란계사의 규모가 대형화됨에 따라 기계화되었고, 이 연구에서는 고단 직립식 케이지를 사용하는 무창계사에서 기계시설이 작동 시 발생되는 소음 및 진동이 산란계의 생산성에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 산란계사내의 소음/진동 수준을 측정 분석하였다. 전국의 13개 산란계 농장을 대상으로 하여 평상시 및 기계시설(사료급이기, 사료분배기, 집란시스템, 환기장치, 계분벨트)의 작동시에 발생되는 소음/진동을 측정하였다. (1) 평상시 소음 최대 82dB, 진동 최대 0.2072 cm/s, (2) 사료급이기 작동 시 소음 최대 90dB, 최대 진동 2.8560cm/s, (3) 사료분배기 작동시 소음 최대 90dB, 최대 진동 2.022cm/s, (4) 집란시스템 작동 시 최대 소음 87dB, 최대 진동 0.1865cm/s, (5) 환기장치 작동 시 케이지에 미치는 최대 88dB, 계사 후면 벽면에 미치는 최대 진동 2.5364cm/s, (6) 계분벨트 작동 시 최대 소음 88dB, 최대 진동 0.2387cm/s 이었다. 따라서 산란계에게 직접적이고 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 장치는 급이 시스템이였다. 이 때의 소음은 최대 90dB로 가장 높게 발생하였으며, 진동은 최대 2.8560 cm/s 발생하였다.

지렁이, 분변토 및 백강균 첨가에 의한 산란계의 생산성 및 계란의 영양적 조성 향상 (Effect of the supplement of the earthworm cast, earthworm and B. bassiana on the improvement of both the productivity of hens and nutritional constituents of eggs)

  • 기능성 계란의 생산을 위하여 유기성 폐기물인 분변토와 지렁이를 산란계의 사료에 첨가하여 생산성 및 영양학적 조성에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 분변토는 산란수와 선별률, 사료 잔량 등을 비교해 볼 때 대조구보다 효과가 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 지렁이를 사료로 공급시킨 경우 계란 선별율에서 왕란의 숫자가 증가하는 현상을 보였으며 사료의 잔량도 증가하는 것으로 나타나 영양적으로 효과가 높은 것으로 생각된다. 분변토는 전체사료에 10% 첨가된 실험구가 대조구보다 평균산란수 96.8개로 5% 높게, 계란의 선별율은 왕란이 5%, 특란이 1.1% 저하되었지만, 대란은 5% 상승하였으며, 평균 사료 잔량은 662.5g으로 가장 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 유용미생물로서 Beauveria bassiana (백강균)을 접종하여 병원성균의 증식을 막고 필수아미노산의 공급을 기대하였다. B. bassiana KACC 40039를 접종한 실험구는 마리당 평균산란수 0.82개이며 B. bassiana HYB를 접종한 실험구는 0.77개로 대조구와 3%~8% 높은 산란율을 나타냈으며, 파란율은 0%를 나타낸 B. bassiana KACC 40039가 가장 효과적인 것으로 나타났으며, 성분분석을 통한 계란의 영양적 검토에서도 단백질의 증가와 콜레스테롤의 저하로 대조구보다 우수한 결과가 나왔고, 결과값에 따라 생산농가에 큰 소득증대의 효과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

Novel Polymorphisms of Adrenergic, Alpha-1B-, Receptor and Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor Gamma, Coactivator 1 Beta Genes and Their Association with Egg Production Traits in Local Chinese Dagu Hens

  • Adrenergic, alpha-1B-, receptor (ADRA1B) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, coactivator 1 beta (PPARGC1B) genes are involved in regulation of hen ovarian development. In this study, these two genes were investigated as possible molecular markers associated with hen-housed egg production, egg weight (EW) and body weight in Chinese Dagu hens. Samples were analyzed using the polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) technique, followed by sequencing analysis. Two novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified within the candidate genes. Among them, an A/G transition at base position 1915 in exon 2 of ADRA1B gene and a T/C mutation at base position 6146 in the 3'- untranslated region (UTR) of PPARGC1B gene were found to be polymorphic and named SNP A1915G and T6146C, respectively. The SNP A1915G (ADRA1B) leads to a non-synonymous substitution (aspartic acid 489-to-glycine). The 360 birds from the Dagu population were divided into genotypes AA and AG, allele A was found to be present at a higher frequency. Furthermore, the AG genotype correlated with significantly higher hen-housed egg production (HHEP) at 30, 43, 57, and 66 wks of age and with a higher EW at 30 and 43 wks (p<0.05). For the SNP T6146C (PPARGC1B), the hens were typed into TT and TC genotypes, with the T allele shown to be dominant. The TC genotype was also markedly correlated with higher HHEP at 57 and 66 wks of age and EW at 30 and 43 wks (p<0.05). Moreover, four haplotypes were reconstructed based on these two SNPs, with the AGTC haplotype found to be associated with the highest HHEP at 30 to 66 wks of age and with higher EW at 30 and 43 wks (p<0.05). Collectively, the two SNPs identified in this study might be used as potential genetic molecular markers favorable in the improvement of egg productivity in chicken breeding.

Microbial Phytase와 무기태 인 수준별 급여가 산란 생산성, 소화율 및 계란 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Supplemental Microbial Phytase and Nonphytate Phosphorus Levels on Performance, Digestibility and Egg Quaility in Layer)

  • The effect of supplemental microbial phytase and non - phytate phosphorus(NPP) levels on layer productivity and nutrient digestibility were conducted in 640 21 weeks - old HyLine brown layer for 12 weeks. Supplemented phytase levels were 0, 300, 500 and 1,000 DPU/kg diet. NPP levels were adjusted with tricalcium phosphate(TCP), which were 0(0.11% NPP), 0.5(0.20), 1.0(0.29) and 1.5%(0.38). ME, CP and Ca levels were maintained at 2,800㎉/kg diet, 16% and 3.5%, respectively. Egg production was increased with phytase compared to without phytase(P〈0.05). Increasement of egg production was higher latter of experimental period. Egg production was not different to phytase levels. Egg production in TCP levels were increased in above 0.5% compared to 0% TCP. Difference of egg production by TCP was higher after 6 week. Especially, egg production to supplemental phytase was higher in 0% TCP. Egg weight was not different to phytase and TCP levels. Egg mass was increased with phytase compared to without phytase, but not difference significantly. There was similar to phytase levels. Egg mass in TCP group was increased in TCP supplementation(P〈0.05). Feed intake was not different in phytase levels, and greater with increasing TCP levels(P〈0.05). Feed conversion was improved with phytase(P〈0.05), and not difference in TCP levels. All of nutrients digestibility tended to improve with phytase, P(P〈0.05), especially. There were not different among phytase levels. The effect of adding phytase was higher in low phosphorus diets compared normal levels. Eggshell breaking strength and eggshell thickness also improved in added phytase(P〈0.05). Tibial ash and P content were slightly increased with phytase, and Ca content also was higher(P〈0.05) compared without phytase. We concluded that supplemental phytase in low phosphorus diet was showed to increase laying performance, feed efficiency, nutrients digestibility, egg quality, and bone development. Phytase supplementation was able to compensate for low NPP diet. We also thought optimum phytase level is 300 DPU, and can decrease NPP supplementation adding phytase in later diet.

여름철 산란계사 내 열환경인자 중 제어요소에 관한 연구 (Study on Control of Thermal Environmental Factors for Improvement of Productivity of Laying Hens in Summer)

  • 본 연구는 여름철 산란계의 더위 스트레스로 인한 생산성 저하에 영향을 미치는 열환경인자들 중 제어 요소를 결정하고 산란계의 생산성을 높일 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위해 수행되었다. 경상남도에 위치한 산란계사에서 ISA Brown 품종의 산란계 48,451수를 공시하여 생산성 지표를 측정하였다. 또한 산란계사 내부에 온습도로거를 설치하여 건구온도와 상대습도를 여름이 시작되는 6월 19일부터 9월 7일까지 총 81일간 동안 측정하였다. 1일 평균온도, 1일 최고온도, 1일 최저온도, 1일 평균상대습도, 1일 최고상대습도, 1일 최저상대습도, 1일 평균THI, 1일 최고THI 그리고 1일 최저THI와 산란계의 생산성 지표 간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 분석한 결과에 의하면, 1일 평균, 최고, 최저의 건구온도와 THI가 상승할수록 사료섭취량, 헨데이 산란율, 난중과 FCR은 낮아졌다(p<0.01). 반면, 음수량은 1일 평균, 최고, 최저의 건구온도와 THI가 상승할수록 증가하였다(p<0.001). 상대습도의 경우, 산란계의 생산성 지표에 대해 직접적인 상관관계를 가지지 않는 것으로 판단된다(p>0.05). 특이점으로는 폐사율의 경우, 1일 평균·최고 온도, THI와 1일 평균·최고·최저 상대습도와는 유의적인 상관관계를 가지지 않았지만, 1일 최저의 온도와 THI와는 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 분석되었다(p<0.05). 따라서, 여름철 산란계의 생산성을 향상시키기 위해서는 산란계사 내의 1일 평균, 최고, 최저의 건구온도와 THI를 가능한 낮추는 것이 필요하고, 특히 1일 최저온도를 산란계의 하한임계온도인 20℃에 근접하게 조성해주는 것이 유리할 것으로 판단된다.
