  • This paper dealt with the pathological and clinical findings on the experimentally induced rodenticide (fluoroacetate, zinc phosphide, thallium sulfate, coumarin) and NaCN poisoning of ruminants (Holstein cattle and/or Korean native goat) for the purpose of the diagnosis in the accidental rodenticide poisoning of cattle. The results observed are summarized as follows: Fluoroacetate poisoning (cattle and goat): in the clinical signs, there were depression, convulsion, dyspnea, groan, grinding of the teeth, vomiting, opisthotonus and post-mortem tympany. In the macroscopical findings, the blood was more or less poor coagulative and dark red, bloody fluid with foam in the trachea, hyperemia and hemorrhage of tracheal mucosa and lung, cloudy swelling and hyperemia of kidney, epicardial hemorrhage(cattle), and hyperemia of abomasum, intestine and brain were observed. In the microscopical findings, there were pulmonary edema and hemorrhage, necrosis of convoluted tubular epithelium and interstitial hemorrhage of kidney, focal coagulative necrosis of myocardium, hemorrhage of pancreas and spleen, dilatation of Virchow-Robin space and hyperemia of brain, and necrosis with desquamation of mucosal epithelia of abomasum and upper small intestine. In the histological lesions of the liver, lobular peripheral hyperemia, centrilobular necrosis and cytoplasmic inclusion bodies of the hetatic cells were observed. The cytoplasmic inclusion body of the hepatic cells was not seen in the affected goat, but hydropic degeneration of the hepatic cells was marked. • To measure motor evoked potentials (MEP) during emergency surgery is often difficult in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, The cause of these difficulties may be considered as damage to the motor pathway by hemorrhage. To identify the cause of difficulties in measuring MEP, we defined the association between motor evoked potentials during surgery and the severity of the hemorrhage in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

  • Germinal matrix and intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) are the major causes of intracranial hemorrhage in premature infants. Cranial ultrasound (cUS) is the imaging modality of choice for diagnosing and classifying GM-IVH. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), usually performed at term-equivalent age, is more sensitive than cUS in identifying hemorrhage in the brain. Post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation is a significant complication of GM-IVH and correlates with adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. In this review, we discuss the various imaging findings of GM-IVH in premature infants, focusing on the role of cUS and MRI.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk factors of intracranial hemorrhage in children with skull fractures from head trauma. Methods: The retrospective study included 205 patients diagnosed with a skull fracture in a pediatric emergency room. Data were analyzed using 𝓍2-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and logistic regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN24.0 program. Results: Intracranial hemorrhage was diagnosed in 71 patients. There were statistically significant differences between the hemorrhagic group and non-hemorrhagic group in age group, places of accident, type of accident, location of the fracture, and symptoms. Intracranial hemorrhage by age group was higher in school-age and adolescence than in infancy. The places of accidents of hemorrhage were higher in street and school than in the home. The types of an accident of bleeding were higher in the case of knock and traffic accident than in fall. Symptoms of nausea, headache, and loss of consciousness were associated with higher intracranial hemorrhage. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that knock (OR= 3.29, 95% CI= 1.50-7.22), traffic accident (OR= 4.78, 95% CI= 1.31-17.43), nausea (OR= 4.18, 95% CI= 1.42-12.31), and loss of consciousness (OR= 3.29, 95% CI= 1.41-9.50) were risk factors for intracranial hemorrhage. Conclusion: In this study, the risk factors of intracranial hemorrhage were identified in pediatric patients with skull fractures caused by head trauma. It is recommended that the results of this study be used to manage and educate patients, caregivers, and medical staff after head trauma hemorrhage.

  • Bilateral traumatic carotid-cavernous fistulae (TCCFs) is rarely encountered neurovascular disease. For treatment of TCCF, detachable balloons have been widely used. Nowadays, transarterial and/or transvenous coil embolization with placement of covered stents is adopted as another treatment method. We experienced a patient with a bilateral TCCFs who was successfully treated with covered stents. However, cerebral hemorrhage occurred in the bed of previous infarction one day after treatment. Hyperperfusion syndrome was considered as a possible cause of the hemorrhage, so that barbiturate coma therapy was started and progression of hemorrhage was stopped. We emphasize that cerebral hyperperfusion hemorrhage can occur even after successful endovascular treatment of TCCF.

  • Most of Tarlov or perineurial cysts remain asymptomatic throughout the patient's life. The pathogenesis is still unclear. Hemorrhage has been suggested as one of the possible causes and trauma with resultant hemorrhage into subarachnoid space has been suggested as an origin of these cysts. However, Tarlov cysts related to spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage has not been reported. The authors report a case of Tarlov cyst which was symptomatic following spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage.

  • Cerebellar hemorrhage is an unusual complication of supratentorial neurosurgery. To the best of our knowledge, only three case reports have described the occurrence of cerebellar hemorrhage after burr hole drainage for the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (SDH). We present the case of a patient with this rare postoperative complication of cerebellar hemorrhage after burr hole drainage of a chronic SDH. Although burr hole drainage for the treatment of chronic SDH is rare complication, it is necessary to be aware of the possibility of cerebellar hemorrhage after supratentorial surgery, even with limited surgery such as burr hole drainage of a chronic SDH.

  • We report a rare case of remote cerebellar hemorrhage after intradural disc surgery at the L1-2 level. Two days after the spine surgery, patient complained unexpected headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. From the urgently conducted brain CT, it was reported that the patient had cerebellar hemorrhage. Occipital craniotomy and hematoma evacuation was performed, and hemorrhagic lesion on the right cerebellum was effectively removed. After occipital craniotomy, the patient showed signs of improvement on headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. He was able to leave the hospital after two weeks of initial operation without any neurological deficit. Remote cerebellar hemorrhage following spinal surgery is extremely rare, but may occur from dural damage of spinal surgery, accompanied with cerebrospinal fluid leakage. Early diagnosis is particularly important for the optimal treatment of remote cerebellar hemorrhage.
