Depth Profiles of Heavy Metals in the Surface Sediments of $H^{o}edong$ Reservoir

  • We investigated the depth profiles of heavy metals in the surface sediments at Heedong reservoir in Pusan. Sampling was done at the intervals of 50 m of drift along the water channel into the reservoir. All samples were analyzed with an ICP-AES. We determined the content of Zn, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu, Cr, and Fe. The overall mean content of these heavy metals were observed to $(2.9\pm1.2){\times}10^{-3},\;(1.3\pm0.7){\times}10^{-3},$ $(1.9\pm2.1){\times}10^{-4},$ $(2.3\pm1.1){\times}10^{-2},\;(1.6\pm1.0){\times}10^{-3},\;and\;(4.5\pm2.6){\times}10^{-4}$ ppm/ppmFe, respectively excluding iron data. Mean contents of Cu show an increasing trend toward the surface of sediments, while those of Cd show a decreasing trend, and those of Pb and Cr are relatively stable. Comparing with the contents of heavy metals in soils at two sites of Kumjeong mountain, enrichment factors of heavy metals in the surface sediments were determined. Among heavy metals we investigated, copper showed the largest value of enrichment factor. Considering the maximum content of heavy metals in the surface sediment, the values of enrichment factors of Cu, Cd and Cr were significant, which were 22, 8.1 and 4.0, respectively. In leaching experiment, it appeared that Pb, Cd, Cr, and Fe in sediments were hardly leached out into water, We also examined the effect of pH on the content of heavy metals.

Peat에 의한 중금속(重金屬) Cd, Cu, Zn의 흡착(吸着) (Adsorption of Heavy Metals Cd, Cu and Zn on Peat)

  • 매장량(埋藏量)이 풍부한 peat를 중금속(重金屬) 흡착제(吸着劑)로서의 이용(利用) 가능성(可能性)을 확인(確認)하기 위한 실험(實驗)을 행한 결과(結果) 다음과 같았다. Peat의 입자(粒子)가 적을수록 중금속(重金屬) 흡착(吸着)이 효과적(效果的)이었으며 동일(同一) 농도용액(濃度溶液)에서 중금속(重金屬) 흡착량(吸着量)은 $Cu^{2+}$ > $Cd^{2+}$ > $Zn^{2+}$순(順) 이었다. Peat는 pH $4{\sim}5$사이에서 중금속(重金屬)의 최대흡착(最大吸着)이 일어났다. 중금속(重金屬) 농도(濃度)가 증가(增加)할수록 중금속(重金屬)의 흡착량(吸着量)의 증가(增加)되었으나 흡착율(吸着率)은 감소(減少)되었다. Peat에 의한 중금속(重金屬) 이온흡착은 Freundlich 흡착등온식(吸着等溫式)에 잘 적용(適用)되므로 효과적(效果的)인 흡착제(吸着劑)로 생각되며 peat에 PEI(polyethylenimine)를 처리(處理)하면 중금속(重金屬)의 흡착량(吸着量)이 증가(增加)하여 효과적(效果的)이었다. 중금속(重金屬) 흡착후(吸着後) peat의 처리방법(處理方法)은 열량(熱量)이 풍부하여 연료원(燃料源)으로 사용후(使用後) 용량(容量)을 줄일 수 있어서 경제적(經濟的)인 처리방법(處理方法)으로 생각된다.

유통식육에서 중금속 함량조사 (Determination of heavy metal contents in meats)

  • This study was conducted to determine the content of heavy metals in meats available on the Korean markets. Trace metals (Pb, As and Cd) were detected in 4 kinds, 172 samples by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The values of heavy metals in meats were as follows; In beef, mean (minimum~maximum) values of the heavy metals were Pb: 0.075 (0.020~0.190)mg/kg, As: 0.010 (0.001~0.050)mg/kg and Cd: 0.43(0.07~2.11)${\mu}g/kg$. In pork, mean (minimum~maximum) values of the heavy metals were Pb: 0.065 (0.012~0.171)mg/kg, As: 0.004 (ND~0.021)mg/kg and Cd: 0.43(0.08~1.09)${\mu}g/kg$. In chiken, mean (minimum~maximum) values of the heavy metals were Pb: 0.060(0.016~0.211)mg/kg, As: 0.008 (ND~0.042)mg/kg and Cd: 0.42 (0.02~3.80)${\mu}g/kg$. In duck, mean (minimum~maximum) values of the heavy metals were Pb: 0.070 (0.011~0.157)mg/kg, As: 0.005 (0.001~0.011)mg/kg and Cd: 0.87 (0.15~3.75)${\mu}g/kg$. This results will be used as a basic data for the future legislation on the regulation and control of heavy metal in meats.

사문암 지역에서 생육하는 대나물(Gypsophila oldhamiana)의 중금속 함량 (Heavy Metal Contents of Gypsophila oldhamiana Growing on Soil Derived from Serpentine)

  • 충남 광천과 홍성 일대의 사문암과 변성암 지역의 암석, 토양 및 출현빈도가 높은 대나물의 중금속 함량을 측정하여 사문암 토양의 독성화 정도와 식물체의 흡수관계를 조사하였다. Ni, Cr 및 Co는 사문암에 매우 높았으며 Zn, Sc, Mo 및 Fe 는 변성암에서 더 높았다. 사문암 풍화토에서는 Ni, Cr 및 Co가 높았으며 Zn과 Fe는 비사문암 풍화토(사문암 및 변성암 풍화토와 변성암 풍화토)에서 높았고, 토양의 중금속은 암석내의 함량보다 낮았다. 사문암 풍화토에 출현하는 대나물내 중금속 함량은 혼합 풍화토의 그것보다 높게 나타났으며, 같은 사문암 지역이라도 홍성보다 광천의 중금속 함량이 높았다. 대나물의 평균 Fe:Ni의 비율은 혼합 풍화토에서는 216이고 사문암 풍화토에서는 49였다. 대나물내 Ni, Cr, Co, Fe 및 Sc 등은 지상부보다 지하부에서 높았으며, Zn과 Mo 함량은 지상부에서 높았다. 암석과 식물체의 중금속 함량 비교 결과 식물체에서보다 암석의 중금속 함량이 높았고, 대나물에 의한 Zn의 흡수는 사문암과 변성암 지역에서 높았으며 Sc와 Fe는 사문암 지역에서 뚜렷이 높았다.

식물경작장에서의 중금속 고축적종 식물을 이용한 중금속 오염토의 정화 연구 (Phytoremediation on the Heavy Metal Contaminated Soil by Hyperaccumulators in the Greenhouse)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the remediation efficiency by Helianthus annuus, Brassica juncea and Brassica campestris on the soil contaminated with nickel, zinc and lead, respectively. The growth rates fell down under 60% in the condition of over 700 mg/kg of zinc for Brassica campestris, 300 mg/kg of lead for Helianthus annuus, and 150 mg/kg of nickel for Brassica juncea on the basis of heavy metal concentration in the soil, because of its toxicity. Also, the hyperaccumulators showed the maximum heavy metal contents in their biomass after 90 days of cultivation. The accumulated heavy metal content per kilogram of hyperaccumulator was 0.65 mg of nickel in Brassica juncea, 0.14 mg of zinc in Brassica campestris, and 0.06 mg of lead in Helianthus annuus, respectively. Additionally, 73.2% of nickel accumulated in Brassica juncea and 95.1% of zinc accumulated in Brassica campestris were concentrated in the upper site of crop like stem and leaves. However, in the case of Helianthus annuus, 83.7% of lead was accumulated in the root.

친환경 골판지 상자 제조를 위한 재활용 폐지 섬유의 물리적·환경적 특성 평가 (Fiber Analysis and Environmental Assessment of Recycled Waste paper for Eco-friendly Corrugated Box Manufacture)

  • In the manufacture of corrugated box, the fibrous raw materials are mainly consisted of recycled papers, such as KOCC(Korean Old Corrugated Container), kraft sack, and AOCC(American Old Corrugated Container). Among these recycled waste paper, the proportion of KOCC is relatively higher than others in fibrous raw materials. Generally, KOCC shows some poor fiber properties and contains hazardous heavy metal sources. Therefore, it is to evaluate the property of recycled paper sources for eco-friendly corrugated box manufacture. In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of 3 kinds of recycled fibers and their mixed stocks were analyzed. The environmental assessment was also evaluated by analyzing the 4 representative heavy metal contents and evaporation residues in waste papers. As the results, KOCC showed the poorest fiber qualities and had the highest heavy metal contents and evaporation residues among the recycled fibers. Finally, the mechanical strength properties were increased by decreasing KOCC proportion of mixed stock conditions. In addition, the heavy metal contents and evaporation residues were also decreased by increasing recycled AOCC and kraft sack proportion.

효율적인 중금속 이온 제거를 위한 킬레이팅 수지를 포함한 양이온 교환막의 개발 및 응용 (Development and Application of Cation-exchange Membranes Including Chelating Resin for Efficient Heavy-metal Ion Removal)

  • 본 연구에서는 수계 내 포함된 양이온들 중 특히 중금속 이온을 효율적으로 분리할 수 있는 양이온 교환막을 개발하였다. 기저 고분자로는 sulfonated polyetheretherketone (SPEEK)를 사용하였으며 이에 중금속 이온에 결합력이 강한 킬레이팅 수지를 파우더링하여 첨가하였다. 또한 양이온 교환막의 성능을 최적화시키기 위해 킬레이팅 수지의 함량 및 SPEEK의 이온교환용량을 제어하였다. 결과적으로 제조된 양이온 교환막을 막 축전식 탈염 공정(membrane capacitive deionization, MCDI)에 적용한 결과 중금속 이온 제거 효율이 20% 이상 향상됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

환경정화용 녹색식물소재로서 자생 맥문동의 중금속 축적 및 토양 내 제거 특징 (Characteristics of Heavy Metal Accumulation and Removing from Soil using Korean Native Plant, Liriope platyphylla for Phytoremediation)

  • This study attempted to utilize various groundcover plants in phytoremediation, using shade plants, which often have a high shade tolerance for shade urban space. Liriope platyphylla was grown in soil containing three of heavy metals, Zn, Cd, and Pb under four different concentrations (0, 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg) to determine the heavy metal accumulation characteristics and removing from soil. Total amounts of accumulated Zn in L. platyphylla were increased in accordance with increasing elevated Zn concentrations in soil, but the difference was not significant between Zn250 and Zn500. Cd accumulation, sharply increased in Cd100 and Cd250, but was reduced in Cd500. Increased Pb concentration in soil resulted a continuous increase in the total amounts of Pb accumulated in L. platyphylla. The total content of Zn in soil decreased by almost 50% in Zn100, almost 33% in Zn250 and 20% in Zn500 through growth of L. platyphylla over a period of 7 months. In the case of Cd, the concentration in soil, was decreased with 10% in Cd100, 10% in Cd250 and 33% in Cd500 through growth of L. platyphylla over a period of 7 months. This results indicate that more Cd was removed by planting L. platyphylla, compared to Zn or Pb.
