In the shipyard, line heating and triangle heating are two major processes for forming curved plates in various shapes. While there have been many studies on line heating, triangle heating has been rarely studied due to its complicated heating process with irregular multi-heating paths and highly concentrated heat input. As the triangle heating process is one of the most labor-consuming jobs in shipyards, it is essential to study the automation as well as improvement of triangle heating process in order to increase hull forming productivity. In this study, a pioneering attempt to simulate triangle heating was made. A circular disk-spring model was proposed for elasto-plastic analysis procedure of triangle heating and the inherent strain method was also used to analyze the deformation of plates. Simulation results were compared with those of experiments and showed good agreement. It is shown that the present approach including analysis model used in this study is effective to simulate the triangle heating for plate forming process in shipbuilding.

From a rapid cooling to a slow cooling in the actual cooling process in shipyards, the phase of steel becomes martensite, bainite, ferrite, and pearlite. In order to simulate the cooling process, heat transfer analysis was performed considering the effects of impinging water jet, film boiling, and radiation. From above simulation it is possible to find the cooling speed at the inherent strain region and volume percentage of all phases in that region. By the suggested method based on the precise material properties calculated from volume percentage of all phases, it will be possible to predict the plate deformations by line heating more precisely. It is verified by comparing with some experimental results that the present method is very effective and efficient.
As compared with existing center-boring timber, skin timber which be hollowed out of its considerable inner parts has some merits as like short drying time, less developed checks during drying, a advantage of lower MC (8~%), more easy injection of chemicals, a possibility of using as a lighter structural heavy timber including Hanok and heavy timber construction, a possibility for the various living necessaries and furniture materials. However, development of hybrid skin timber is required for using as a value-added materials and giving a confidence for the structural safety of skin timber to general user. Thus, improved pine skin timber (IPST) and improved larch skin timber (ILST) were manufactured using the lighter steel plate possible. And compressive capacity of improved skin timber was analyzed. From the results of this study, the following conclusions have been made: 1. Both of IPST and ILST can give a uniformity of material capacity compared with non-treated skin timber. 2. Both IPST and ILST, there was not statistical significancy among the thickness of steel plate. Therefore, it concluded that it was not necessary to use thicker steel plate. 3. There was also not statistical significancy between IPSR and ILST, so it need not to be selective about the species of improved skin timber. 4. IPST showed various failure types, but most failure types of ILST is a splitting type.
Extra heavy oil reservoirs are distributed over the world but most of them is deposited in the northern part of the Orinoco River in Venezuela, in the area of 5,500 $km^2$, This region, which has been commonly called "the Orinoco Oil Belt", contains estimated 1.3 trillion barrels of original oil-in-place and 250 billion barrels of established reserves. The Venezuela extra heavy oil has an API gravity of less than 10 degree and in situ viscosity of 5,000 cP at reservoir condition. Although the presence of extra heavy oil in the Orinoco Oil Belt has been initially reported in the 1930's, the commercial development using in situ cold production started in the 1990's. The Orinoco heavy oil deposits are clustered into 4 development areas, Boyaco, Junin, Ayachoco, and Carabobo respectively, and they are subdivided into totally 31 production blocks. Nowadays, PDVSA (Petr$\'{o}$leos de Venzuela, S.A.) makes a development of each production block with the international oil companies from more than 20 countries forming a international joint-venture company. The Eastern Venezuela Basin, the Orinoco Oil Belt is included in, is one of the major oil-bearing sedimentary basins in Venezuela and is first formed as a passive margin basin by the Jurassic tectonic plate motion. The major source rock of heavy oil is the late Cretaceous calcareous shale in the central Eastern Venezuela Basin. Hydrocarbon materials migrated an average of 150 km up dip to the southern margin of the basin. During the migration, lighter fractions in the hydrocarbon were removed by biodegradation and the oil changed into heavy and/or extra heavy oil. Miocene Oficina Formation, the main extra heavy oil reservoir, is the unconsolidated sand and shale alternation formed in fluvial-estuarine environment and also has irregularly a large number of the Cenozoic faults induced by basin subsidence and tectonics. Because Oficina Formation has not only complex lithology distribution but also irregular geology structure, geological evolution and characteristics of the reservoirs have to be determined for economical production well design and effective oil recovery. This study introduces geological formation and evolution of the Venezuela extra heavy oil reservoirs and suggest their significant geological characteristics which are (1) thickness and geometry of reservoir pay sands, (2) continuity and thickness of mud beds, (3) geometry of faults, (4) depth and geothermal character of reservoir, (5) in-situ stress field of reservoir, and (6) chemical composition of extra heavy oil. Newly developed exploration techniques, such as 3-D seismic survey and LWD (logging while drilling), can be expected as powerful methods to recognize the geological reservoir characteristics in the Orinoco Oil Belt.
Fine suspended solids generated effluence from treatment process of mine drainage could destroy environment as the aesthetic landscapes, and depreciate water quality. Therefore, the purpose of this research is focused on process development applied the actual field for controlling fine suspended solids and heavy metals, and so lab-scale test was performed for inducement of basic data. The mine drainage used in this research was sampled in H mine located Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do. Concentration of suspended solid, arsenic, iron and manganese was exceeded the standard of contaminant limitation for the clean water, and particle size of suspended solid was less than 10 m as fine particle. Although hydraulic retention time of mine drainage for effective settling was required more than 6 hours, hydraulic retention time would be increased in winter season when the settling efficiency could be reduced because of viscosity decreasing. Moreover, installed inclination plate helped to increase settling efficiency of suspended solid about 48 %. Filtering media that was the most effective removal of suspended solids and heavy metal was decided granular activated carbon of 1~2 mm was the optimal size.
Effects of common electrophoretic reagents, reducing agents ($\beta$-mercaptoethanol [BME] and DTT), denaturants (SDS and urea), and non-ionic detergent (Triton X-100), on the activity and stability of bovine plasmin (b-pln) and human plasmin (h-pln) were compared. In the presence of 0.1% SDS (w/v), all reagents completely inhibited two plns, whereas SDS (1%) and urea (1 M) denatured plns recovered their activities after removal of SDS by treatment of 2.5% Triton X-100 (v/v). However, reducing agents (0.1 M of BME and DTT) treated plns did not restore their activities. Based on a fibrin zymogram gel, five (from b-pln) and four (from h-pln) active fragments were resolved. Two plns exhibited unusual stability in concentrated SDS and Triton X-100 (final 10%) and urea (final 6 M) solutions. Two bands, heavy chain-2 (HC-2) and cleaved heavy chain-2 (CHC-2), of b-pln were completely inhibited in 0.5% SDS or 3 M urea, whereas no significant difference was found in h-pln. Interestingly, 50 kDa (cleaved heavy chain-1, CHC-1) of b-pln and two fragments, 26 kDa (light chain, LC) and 29 kDa (microplasmin, MP), of h-pln were increased by SDS in a concentration dependent manner. We also found that the inhibition of SDS against both plns was reversible.
Seasonal fluctuations of physico-chemical and biological aspects of the environment were studied in Vladivostok harbour (Golden Horn Bay, the East Sea/Sea of Japan). The benthic community structure was described with a focus on size-spectra (bacteria, meio- and macrofauna) related with the chemical environment and chemical fluxes in sediment and to reveal their possible ecological role in the process of bioremediation of the environment. Samples from two sites with different concentrations of heavy metals (Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb, Mn, Cr, Ni Cd, Co) and petroleum hydrocarbon were assessed by a number of methods. These included plate counts of culturable bacteria, observation through a scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). These approaches were complemented with microscopic assessments of the diversity of the benthic community. The specific communities had a limited number of species, tolerant to abnormally high levels of toxic compounds. The dominant species were presented by several sho.1-lived small polychaetes (Capitella capitata) and nematodes (Oncholaimium ramosum). The highest population density was recorded in microbenthos, in various diatoms, various physiological groups of bacteria which participate in biomineralization: marine heterotrophic bacteria, which oxidized oil, black oil in addition to groups resistant to heavy metals. They have the entire set of mechanisms for neutralizing the negative effect of those compounds, forming the detrital food web and biogeochemical circulation of material in sediments, which results in the biological self-recycling of sea basins. Macro- and meiobenthic organisms were more sensitive to a greater extent of $H_2S$ and petroleum hydrocarbons than to metal content, but the within-site rankings were the same as those achieved for microbiological analyses.

As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was attempted to realize a magnetic clamp crane system that uses 8 simultaneously actuating individual hydraulic cylinders. Through this approach, a Sr type of ferritic permanent magnet ($SrO{\cdot}6Fe_2O_3$), not the previously employed electro-magnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the heavy weighted and oversized curved steel plates used for manufacturing the ships. This study is aimed at manufacturing and developing the hydraulic magnetic clamp prototype, which is composed of three main parts - the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint - in order to safely transport such curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research was pursued to conduct a performance evaluation as to the prototype manufacture and acquire the planned quantity value and the development purpose items. The most significant item for a performance evaluation was estimated for the magnetic adhesive force (G) and in this process, a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc) was utilized. In addition, other relevant items such as hoist tension (kN), transportation time (sec), and the applied load (Kgf) exerted on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to acquire the optimum quantity value. As a result of the evaluation, the relevant device turned out to be suitable for safely transporting the curved steel plates.

Submarine and deep sea diving structures are generally designed based on their ultimate strength. Fatigue strength at welded joint must be also taken into account because working stress is increased due to the increasing of diving depth and using high yield steel. The pressure hulls of submarine are subjected to fluctuating compressive loading. But in addition to the calculated stresses, high residual tensile stresses at welded part have to be considered. The state of stress level of pressure hull is tensile at surface and compressive at deep diving depth. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the crack initiation and growth at the weld toe of T welded joints of HY-100 steel plate under constant amplitude loading. It is also investigated the phenomenon of the fatigue failure and test methods. Fatigue tests have been using real scaled local structural models of full penetration T-welded joint, which is a part of the cylindrical shell structures reinforced by ring stiffeners. Several load ratios under constant amplitude loading are considered in the tests. Crack initiation and growth characteristics are examined based on the beach marks of the cracked section of the test specimens. A design stress-life curve including the design formula is suggested according to tested data.
For thin panel welded structure, the various welding distortions were found due to the low resistance against welding deformation. Especially, buckling distortion induced in the thin panel welded structure produce severe problems related to cost in production stage and safety in service life. So, many researches including mechanical and thermal tensioning method for preventing the occurrence of buckling distortion in the production stage have been performed. The purpose of this study is to identify the behavior of longitudinal residual stress at the SA butt weldment with thin plate of 6mm thickness under tension load by 3 dimensional FEA. For it, mesh design for 3D FEA was constructed with 20 nodes brick element for butt weldment and 8 nodes shell element for base metal. According to FEA results, the longitudinal compressive strain inducing tensile residual stress at the butt weldment decreased. It was because the compressive thermal strain in way of weldment was reduced by tension load. The control effect of residual stress increased with an increase in tension load. So, if the amount of tension load applied to the weldment exceeds 1.5 times of longitudinal shrinkage force, the amount of longitudinal residual stress decreased below the critical value inducing the buckling distortion at the SA butt weldment. Its validity was verified by experiment.
