정수슬러지로부터 중금속 용출 억제를 위한 최적 고화조건 (Optimal Solidification Conditions for Suppression of Heavy Metal Elution from Water Treatment Sludge)

  • In general, water treatment sludge (WTS) had high concentration of heavy metal, thus it made the reuse or recycling of WTS difficult. The optimal solidification conditions for maximum suppression of heavy metal elution from WTS were decided in this study. Under the optimal solidification conditions (i.e., temperature, $320^{\circ}C;$ ratio of WTS and MgO, 9:1; solidification time, 1hr), all of heavy metal including aluminum were not detected. Therefore there are no problems for reuse or recycling of WTS which was solidified under the optimal solidification conditions found in the study.

천연 및 전처리 제올라이트에 의한 2가 중금속 이온 제거능의 비교.검토 (Comparions of Removal Performances of Divalent Heavy Metals by Natural and Pretreated Zeolites)

  • The three domestic natural zeolites(Yong dong-ri (Y), Daesin-ri (D), Seogdong-ri (S)) harvested in Kyeongju-shi and Pohang-shi, Kyungsangbug-Do, were pretreatd with each of the NaOH, $Ca(OH)_2$ and NaOH following HCl solutions, and the removal performances of divalent haevy metals(Cu, Mn, Pb, and Sr) for natural and pretreated zeolites were investigated and compared in the single and mixed solutions. The natural zeolite-heavy metal system attained the final equilibrium plateau within 20 min, irrespective of initial heavy metal concentration. The heavy metal uptakes increased with increasing initial heavy metal concentration and pH. The heavy metal uptakes for natural zeolites decreased in the following sequences : D>Y>S among the natural zeolites; Pb>Cu>Sr>Mn among the heavy metals. The pretreated zeolites showed higher heavy metal removal performances than natural zeolites and decreased in the order of NaOH, NaOH following HCl, $Ca(OH)_2$ treatment among the pretreatment methods. The heavy metal ion exchange capacity by natural and pretreated zeolites was described either by Freundlich equation or Langmuir equation, but it followed the former better than the latter. The heavy metal uptakes for natural zeolites decreased in the mixed solution, in comparing with those in the single solution and especially, the manganese uptake decreased greatly in the mixed solution. The pretreated zeolites showed the improved removal performances of heavy metals in the mixed solution than in the single solution and the heavy metal uptakes by those in the mixed solution showed the same trends in the single solution among the chemical treatment methods and heavy metals.

  • 중금속으로 오염된 폐수를 처리하기 위하여 다양한 처리 방법들이 제시되고 있으나, 최근에는 미생물을 이용한 중금속 처리 방법에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 따라서 중금속으로 오염된 토양에서 중금속에 대하여 강한 내성과 우수한 생물흡착능력을 동시에 가지고 있는 미생물 CPB를 분리하여 중금속에 대한 내성, 흡착 능력 및 흡착의 최적조건을 조사하였다. 중금속에 대한 내성은 전체적으로 $400mg{\ell}^{-1}$ 이상의 농도에서도 높은 내성을 보였으며, 생장 저해도는 단일 중금속 보다 중금속이 복합으로 존재 할 경우 더 크게 나타났다. 중금속 흡착 능력은 Pb>Cd>Cu>Zn의 순으로 흡착 능력이 나타났다. 외형적 흡착형태는 중금속의 종류에 따라 세포 표면 및 세포 막 부근에 electron dense particles들이 형성되었으며, 이는 EDS 분석을 통하여 중금속 화합물인 것으로 확인되었다. 중금속을 흡착하는데 있어 전반적인 최적 pH는 $5{\sim}7$범위였고, 최적 온도는 $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$이다.

갑오징어뼈를 이용한 중금속의 흡착 특성 (Heavy Metal Ion Adsorption Characteristics of Cuttle fish Born)

  • We studied the adsorption characteristics on the treatment process of heavy metal wastewater by using cuttle fish bones powder. When adding the 0.25% cuttle fish born powder in the heavy metal solution, $Fe^{3+}$ and $Pb^{2+}$ were high removed than other heavy metals as above 95%. In the solution which was adjusted to pH 5, 7 and 9, there was not observed the difference thing on the heavy metal removal rate. At test using plating wastewater treatment, adding 1%, 1.5% and 2% of the cuttle fish born powder, the heavy metal removal rate were as follows; Zn 12.5 - 37.5%, Mn 18.0 - 62.2%, Cd 36.8 -93.0%, Cu 51.4 - 97.4%, Cr 70.8 - 99.1%, Fe 87.2 - 99.3% and Pb 92.8 - 99.9%. When adding the 0.15% cuttle fish born powder and mixing for 20 minutes, the solution was happened the adsorption equability. Applied this results to the Freundlich's iso-thermal equation, we found the cuttle fish born's probability as a good adsorbent.

  • The removal effectiveness of various heavy metal ions in boron-rich containing plants has been studied by means of spectroscopic and pH methods. Treatment of the boron-rich containing sample which was collected from cherry and root of cabbage to heavy metal ions is resulted in that an excellent removal effect shows in the case of large ionic size of heavy metal. Stability constants are depended on the variation of pH.

  • Membrane process has been applied widely to petroleum chemistry, fine chemistry, polymer, electronics, food, bioprocessing, and wastewater treatment process. Membrane process has advantage that there's no phase change through separation, energy consumption is smaller than other separation processes. And equipment investment and operation cost are inxpensive too. We prepared the silicone rubber membrane and then separated the heavy metal ion from wastewater. Silicone rubber membrane was prepared using a superitical fluid process and heavy metal ions were separated from the chromium nitrate, ferric sulfate, cupric sulfate, nickel sulfate aqueous solution. The pressure difference between top and bottom of separation apparatus was preserved by vacuum pump, and the removal amount of heavy metal at each separation step were analyzed by instrumental analysis, AAS. The surface and pore of silicone rubber membrane was investigated using SEM, and the capability of wastewater treatment using a silicone rubber membrane was proposed as calculated removal rate of heavy metal after comparing removal amount of heavy metal to amount of heavy metal in mother solution by AAS analysis.

열처리에 의한 돈 내장근의 중량손실 및 미량 중금속 잔류에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Heating Treatment on the Cooking Loss and Heavy Metal Residues of Porcine Variety Viscera)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the healing loss and the heavy metal residues such as copper, zinc, manganese, cadmium and lead In porcine visceras by inductively coupled argon plasma spectrometer(ICP), and to probe changes when porcine visceras were boiling In water treatment(BWT), heating in autoclave treatment (HAT) and heating In oil treatment (HOT) . The range of heating loss on porcine viscera were BWT(23.11∼34.53%) , HAT(18.48∼28.00%) and HOT(14.20∼25.22%)and the heart tissue were higher and liver were lower than those of the other tissues. The total value of heavy metal residues in large intestine, small intestine, heart, kidney, liver and stomach tissue were 11.298${\pm}$5.302 ppm, 27.825${\pm}$8. 177 ppm, 16.756${\pm}$6.334 ppm 21.107${\pm}$6.057 ppm, 25.369 ${\pm}$ 10.164 ppm and 12.611 ${\pm}$5.513 ppm, respectively. Heavy metal residues in porcine visceras tended to decrease according to heating methods and the variety viscera, and the change of total heavy metal residues on BWT, HAT and HOT were 4.16∼32.57%, 12.01∼28.09% and 9.60∼25.76%, respectively. The decrease of lead element of mean value were 21.76% and copper, zinc, manganese and cadmium element were 18.00∼ 18.16%. The change of heavy metal residues were not significant in the porcine visceras(P>0.05), and the these were significantly correlated among the three heating method(P < 0.05).

미나리 ( Oenanthe stolonifera ) 의 Cd, Zn 제거능과 내성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Cd and Removal Ability and Detoxification of Oenanthe stolonifera)

  • To examine the possibility of biomonitoring of heavy metal removal ability and soil, a study was performed to investigate the heavy metal removal ability and metal-binding protein (MBP) as detoxification process using Oenanthe stolonifera. After O. stolonifera was exposed to individuals (cadmium, zinc) and mixture (cadmium+zinc)for 4 days, removal rate of heavy metal and pH in the treatment medium was measured. MBP was assayed by means of ion exchange column chromatography. The exposure to mixture (Cd:76.8%, Zn:75%) rather than individuals (Cd:82.9%, Zn:90.4%) showed a synergism raising the toxic effect. Initial removal rate was different for each heavy metal : in case of exposure to cadmium it was over 60% on day 1, while for zinc it was 75~90% on day 4. Throughout the experimental period, pH value of treatment medium continuously decreased, since cortex in the roots may secret organic acid to adjust and prevent toxicity of metals. The existence or MBP in the 70~80 fraction and the presence of Zn-enzyme pool was ascertained with the column chromatography. This study demonstrated a possibility that heavy utilized as a biomarker of heavy metal pollution.

Improved adsorption performance of heavy metals by surface modification of polypropylene/polyethylene media through oxygen plasma and acrylic acid

  • Industrialization and modern developments have led to an influx of toxic heavy metals into the aquatic environment, and the accumulation of heavy metals has serious adverse effects on humans. Among the various heavy metal treatment methods, adsorption is very useful and frequently used. Plastic materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, have been widely used as filter media due to their mechanical and chemical stability. However, the surface of plastic material is inert and therefore the adsorption capability of heavy metals is very limited. In this study, granular media and fiber media composed of polypropylene and polyethylene are used, and the surface modification was conducted in order to increase adsorption capability toward heavy metals. Oxygen plasma generated hydroxyl groups on the surface of the media to activate the surface, and then acrylic acid was synthesized on the surface. The grafted carboxyl group was confirmed by FT-IR and SEM. Heavy metal adsorption capability of pristine and surface modified adsorbents was also evaluated. Overall, heavy metal adsorption capability was increased by surface modification due to electrostatic interaction between the carboxyl groups and heavy metal ions. Fibrous PP/PE showed lower improvement compared to granular PP media because pore blockage occurred by the surface modification step, thereby inhibiting mass transfer.

하수처리수의 농업용수 재이용이 토양 및 작물의 중금속 함량에 미치는 영향 분석 (Impact of Reclaimed Wastewater Irrigation on Heavy Metal Contamination in Soil and Vegetables)

  • In this study, the effects of reclaimed wastewater irrigation on the concentration of heavy metals such as lead, zinc, cadmium, and copper in soil and vegetables were investigated by monitoring an experimental area irrigated with reclaimed wastewater. Three treatments and three replications on $10{\times}2$-m plots were installed and heavy metal concentrations in soil and vegetables were monitored from 2005 to 2007. The treatments applied in this study were groundwater irrigation (control treatment), wastewater irrigation, and irrigation with filtered reclaimed wastewater treated with ultraviolet light. The monitored results showed that the concentrations of Cu, Cd, and Pb in soil during the experimental period were lower than initial soil levels before irrigation, whereas Zn increased in all treatment plots. However, the ranges of Zn, Cu, Cd and Pb in soil were below the soil pollution standards in the Republic of Korea. Heavy metal concentrations in vegetables showed insignificant variations for all treatments.
