Effect of external heating rate on the conversion efficiency for the steam reforming of methanol is investigated numerically considering both heat and mass transfer of the species in a packed bed microreactor. In a results from the numerical simulation, the conversion efficiency of methanol has been obtained for the external heating rate. The axial variation of mole fraction of methanol has been additionally presented for several cases of external heating rates. The results show that for the constant inlet temperature condition the conversion efficiency of methanol increases with external heating rate over the range of operating conditions.
The purpose of this study is to improve energy efficiency of windows in office buildings through the evaluation of their heating, cooling and illumination load. Energy efficiency is influenced by window size which is determined at the early stage of building design. The process of this study is as follows. First, energy performance is analysed according to the various rates of windows through computer simulation (ECOTECT). Then, the annual heating, cooling and illuminating loads according to the different window sizes are compared one another. Results indicated that the optimal window size considering energy efficiency is 50% of the surface area. When the window size is 50% of the surface area, annual maintenance expense is also smallest. Since the cost of cooling is larger than that of heating, too low indoor air temperature in summer is unfavorable based on the reasonable annual maintenance expenses.

The zirconia-alumina composite, a low loss material, was sucessfully sintered using a 2.45 GHz microwave radiation. The dense zirconia was used as a microware coupling aid. The effect of microwave power level on the heating rates of samples and the feasibility of microwave energy use in processign ceramec materials were obtained. It was also obtained how to accurately measure the temperature. According to the microwave heating theory, heating mechanisms were discussed.
Sintered CdS/CdTe solar cells have been farbricated by coating a (Cd+Te) slurry on sintered CdS films followed by the sintering at 625.deg.C for one hour with various heating rates. When cadmium and tellurinm powders are used instead of CdTe powder to form CdS/CdTe junction, CdTe is formed in the temperature range of 290.deg.C-400.deg.C. The microstructure of the CdTe films depends strongly on the heating rate of the sintering due to the low melting temperature and the high vapor pressure of the elemental Cd and Te. An optimum heating rate obtain CdTe films with uniform and dense microstructure which, in turn, improves the efficiency of the sintered CdS/CdTe solar cells. All-polycrystalline CdS/CdTe solar cells with an efficiency of 9.57% under 50mW/cm$^{2}$ tungsten light have been farbricated by using a heating rate of 14.deg.C/min.
When Li2O.2SiO2 glass was crystallized between the temperature of maximum nucleation and the temperature of maximum crystal growth it was found that the control of heating rate had serious effect on the crystallinity and microstructure and the greatly changed physical properties. Density and elastic modulus tends to increase but thermal expansion coefficient decreased with increased crystallinity. When heating rate between the tempe-rature of maximum nucleation and the temperature of maximum crystal growth was 10~5$0^{\circ}C$/hr. crystallinity was increased to result in the increment of strength. When nuclation was done at 44$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours and the temperature of crystal growth was held at 575$^{\circ}C$ strength was increased until crystallinity reached 65% and strength was decreased with higher crystallinity. These phenomena could be explained that even for the same crystallinity different heat rates resulted in different number and size of cracks.
Using two-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic simulations, we investigate the regulation of star ormation rates in turbulent, multiphase, galactic gaseous disks. Our simulation domain is xisymmetric, and local in the radial direction and global in the vertical direction. Our models nclude galactic rotation, vertical stratification, self-gravity, heating and cooling, and thermal onduction. Turbulence in our models is driven by momentum feedback from supernova events ccurring in localized dense regions formed by thermal and gravitational instabilities. Self-onsistent radiative heating, representing enhanced/reduced FUV photons from the star formation, s also taken into account. Evolution of our model disks is highly dynamic, but reaches a quasi-teady state. The disks are overall in effective hydrostatic equilibrium with the midplane thermal ressure set by the vertical gravity. The star formation rate is found to be proportional pproximately linearly to the midplane thermal pressure. These results are in good agreement with the predictions of a recent theory by Ostriker, McKee, and Leroy (2010) for the thermal/dynamic equilibrium model of star formation regulation.

Ammonia decomposition over titanium carbides were investigated using eight different samples which have been synthesized by TPR (temperature-programmed reduction) method of titanium oxide ($TiO_2$) with pure $CH_4$. The resulting materials which were synthesized using wo different heating rates and space velocity exhibited the different surface areas. These results indicated that the structural properties of these materials have been related to heating rates and space velocity employed. The titanium carbides prepared in this study proved to be active for ammonia decomposition, and the activity changed with the particle size/surface area. These showed the relationship between ammonia decomposition activity and the different active species. Compared to molybdenum carbide, the titanium carbides were one order of magnitude less active, suggesting the correlation between the activity difference and the degree of electron transfer between metals and carbon in metal carbides.

In Korea, the radiant heating system has been widely used as a residential heating method, which has been modernized to use hot water running into the tubes embedded in the floor structure. According to the recent improvement of living standard of residential buildings, the requirement of the thermal comfort and energy saving in heating system has been raised. Until now, the radiant floor heating system has been controlled by room thermostat installed in the living room, but for better thermal comfort, an individual room control method is adopted as an alternative. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the control performance between the current control method and the individual room control method. In this study, the control performance between the two systems is evaluated through the field experiment. And the control performances of room air temperature and energy performances are analyzed through the simulation using TRNSYS. Firstly, the simulations are performed in the various outdoor conditions and the flow rates and the simulation results are analyzed for the control performances. Also, to evaluate the energy performance, the simulations are performed under the operating conditions in which the set-point of the room air temperature is fixed or changed according to the schedule of occupancy, and the simulation results are analyzed between the two methods.

Recently, an increasing interest in district heating system has emerged rapidly, In this paper, the physical measurements and data to be monitoring through the internet were carried out with regard to hot water heating energy consumption at the three apartment housings with district heating system in Sang-am district of Seoul, Korea, Measurements were made of the thermal factors such as the pressure of heating pipe, flow rates, hot water temperature and etc, The objective of this study is to compare the design capacity of reheat exchanger with that of preheat exchanger in order to evaluate for the number of plates of two exchangers to be distributed properly.

$Nd_{12.5}Fe_{80.6}B_{6.4}Ga_{0.3}Nb_{0.2}$ HDDR-treated powder was compacted by hot-pressing using different configurations of dies and heating rates. The die configurations were especially different in terms of the evacuation system that was used in heating for hot-pressing. The coercivity in the compacts was influenced by the evacuation system of the die and heating rate. In spite of the identical hot-pressing temperature and heating rate, coercivity was radically reduced above $600^{\circ}C$ in the compacts prepared in the closed-type die compared to that in the compacts prepared in the open-type die. The coercivity in the compacts prepared in the closed-type die decreased with increasing heating rate and the value further increased when extreme high heating rate was employed. $Nd_{12.5}Fe_{80.6}B_{6.4}Ga_{0.3}Nb_{0.2}$ HDDR-treated powder contained a significant amount of residual hydrogen (approx. 1500 ppm) in the form of $Nd_2Fe_{14}BH_x$ hydride. The dramatic coercivity decrease in the compact prepared in the closed die is attributed to the disproportionation of $Nd_2Fe_{14}BH_x$ hydride. High coercivity is mainly due to the effective desorption of hydrogen or the suppression of hydrogen-related disproportionation upon hot-pressing.
