The horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe which is suitable for the sensible heat storage system is able to store a hot water from the heat source such as heating pad efficiently and to supply a hot water to load rapidly. Therefore Arrangement of heating pad affects thermal flow and thermal storage efficiency. So, if effective arrangement is decided for condition of constant number of heating pad, the more rapid thermal flow effect and higher thermal storage efficiency is obtainable by active heat transfer. In this experiments, number of heating pad is ranged from three, five and nine, and when number of heating pad is constant, arrangement are two types of concentration-type and dispersion-type. As a result, for the case of concentration-type of heating pad, strong entrainment take place in horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe by active heat transfer and in the constant number of heating pad, the concentration-type has the higher efficiency with about 5∼6% than the dispersion-type. Therefore, when heating pad is equipted to horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe, concentration-type of heating pad is an efficient design in constant number. of heating pad.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an electric heating pad on abdominal pain and anxiety during the colonoscopy procedure. Method: Data were collected from 70 adult patients (experimental group (35), control group (35)) who underwent colonoscopy in a general hospital in Seoul, South Korea between January 6 and May 4 2006. For the experimental group the electric heating pad was applied from 20 minutes before the test through the whole procedure. Objective pain was measured during the test, and subjective pain, state anxiety, blood pressure and pulse rate were measured after the procedure. Results: The experimental group with the electric heating pad reported significantly lower subjective pain and anxiety than did the control group. There were no significant differences in objective pain between experimental and control groups. Patients with an electric heating pad showed significantly lower systolic and diastolic pressure than did those in the control group. There was no significant difference in pulse rate between the groups. Conclusion: Use of an electric heating pad was efficient in reducing subjective pain and anxiety among patients undergoing colonoscopy. This is a convenient and useful nursing intervention to reduce anxiety and pain among patients having a colonoscopy.
This paper studies the mechanical behaviors of Sn-3.5Ag solder joint against substrate(such as Au/Ni/Cu, Au/cu, Ni/Cu and Cu pad) after induction heating, a new soldering method. It was found that the solder bump formation depends on the time and current of the induction heating system. Also the heating value of the solder bump were found to vary with respect to the thermal conductivity of the pads on the substrate. In case of Au/Ni/Cu pad and Au/Cu pad, solder bump's shear strength were high for the heating time of $1.5{\sim}2sec$. For Ni/Cu pad, solder bump's shear strength were found to increase with time increment.
This paper describes electrical fire on electric pad caused by defect of hot wires. We analyzed two type electric pad using by carbon type hot wire and magnetic shielded type hot wire. First, a carbon type hot wires electric pad is virtually impossible to connect hot wire as a method of electrical welding or soldering. In order to connect between hot wires, that has to splice carbon type material connector. If junction of hot wires was occurrence of poor connection on electric pad, it increase contact resistance on this junction point. With increasing contact resistance, junction of hot wires on electric pad generates local heating and finally leads to electrical fire. An electric pad using by a magnetic shielded type hot wire happened local heating on signal wire for sensing temperature-rise caused by applying current for magnetic shielded. With increasing local heating of signal wire, insulated coating of hot wire was melted. Finally the magnetic shielded type hot wire electric pad lead to electrical fire with breakdown between signal wire and hot wire. In this paper, we analyzed shape of damage in hot wire caused by electrical local heating and investigated fire cause on electric pad due to defect of hot wires.
Recently, vibration and noise have become an important issue in the auto industry. Asphalt vibration damping pads are used to reduce the noise and vibration of automobile bodies, and asphalt is used for many mass-produced parts due to its simple attachment process and low processing costs. In this study, the self-adhesion of asphalt pads using Joule heating was evaluated. To create the asphalt pad for the experiment, the asphalt pad was molded into a specific thickness by using SGACC material and rubber used in the vehicle body as a main component and a modified resin and filler. The SGACC material was 200 mm in length, 200 mm in width, and 0.7 mm in thickness. The asphalt pad was 200 mm in length, 100 mm in width, and 3 mm in thickness. The equipment was composed of a TR (Transformer) DC254kVA and a TC (Time controller) for a current of up to 20,000 A. The current for the Joule heating was set to 7.0 kA and a 3/1 cycle, for which the adhesion of the asphalt pad over the current flow time was evaluated.
The purpose of this study was to design functional clothing based on the physical characteristics of old women. The subjects of this experiment were 5 healthy old women and 5 college women. While the subjects were exposed to the circumstances of $28{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and local heating at 7 areas (chest, abdomen, back, loin, hand, thigh and instep), their skin temperature, physiological reaction and psychological reaction were determined. The conclusions about the effects of local heating are as follows : 1. Skin temperature before heating was in the order of head-neck> trunk> upper limbs> lower limbs (Group A: old subjects) and head-neck> trunk> lower limbs> upper limbs (Group B: young subjects). 2. The heating pad was attached and detached for 30 minutes each. The sharpest rise and fall were recorded at 5 minutes with the pad on and off. Both groups had great changes in the body parts near trunk. 3. With the pad on and off, both groups showed no change in body temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate. 4. Concerning the pervasive effects of local heating on whole body skin temperature, loin heating greatly increased other body parts in Group A. In Group B, the effects were large in heating chest, abdomen, back, loin, and thigh. 5. The loin part of old women has the greatest pervasive effect of local body heating.
This paper investigates the reliability of district heating pipes at thermo-elastic fatigue loading. District heating pipes, subjected to $120^{\circ}C$ and $16kg_f/cm^2$ due to water distributing service through inside the pipes, should endure long term cyclic thermal-mechanical loadings. The heating pipes are the co-centric tubes of steel pipe, poly urethane(PUR) insulator, and high density poly ethylene(HDPE) case. On installation, foam pad is externally wrapped for accommodating stress reduction near the bend sections of pipes. However, there have been frequent reports on the failures of bend sections in the middle of long term service. This study scrutinizes the observed failures near the bend sections through applying the finite element methods. Specially in this study, heating pipes are studied on the influence of foam padding on failures and proposed new designs for reinforced bend without foam pad.
