The purpose of this study was to prevent excessive softening of seasoned spinach by heating and freezing through the pre-heating treatment in calcium chloride solution. The pre-heating temperature was set at 60℃, which supports the highest activity of pectinesterase around 60℃. Pre-heating spinach in calcium solution does not affect the chromaticity characteristics of spinach leaves and significantly improves its texture compared to conventional blanching only and pre-heating in water. The improvement of the firmness is related to the formation of strongly cross-linkages between carboxyl groups and Ca2+ by the action of the pectinesterase in spinach. For reheated spinach, the firmness of calcium chloride treated stems were 37.80~44.44 kg, and the control was 28.73 kg. The firmness of calcium chloride treated leaves was 19.73~40.79 kg, and the control was 9.63 kg. Additionally, the total aerobic bacteria in the fresh samples were 3.25~3.99 log CFU/g and 1.97~2.72 log CFU/g in the reheated samples. And the total coliform was not detected in the reheated samples. Considering the color, texture, microbial characteristics and taste quality, the optimum pre-treatment conditions to prevent excessive softening of spinach were 3% calcium chloride solution and 15minutes of treatment.
Melting method has long been considered difficult to realize because of problems such as the low foamability of molten metal, the varying size of cellular structures and solidification shrinkage. The parameters to solve the problem in electric furnace were stirring temperature, stirring velocity, heating velocity and foaming temperature It is important to consider the effects of induction heating, because it brings about the inner flow by the temperature gradient. Aspect ratio also depends on the induction heating. Mechanical properties are dependent on cell sizes and aspect rations. Therefore, this paper presents the effects of these parameters on the cell sizes. For the sake of this, combined stirring process was used to fabricate aluminum foam materials by the above mentioned parameters. Image analysis was performed to calculate the cell sizes, distributions, and aspect ratioes at the cross section of feared aluminum in the direction of height.
Auto industries have tried to employ lightweight alloys to improve the fuel efficiency of manufactured vehicles, as the environmental concern becomes an important issue. Even though the aluminum alloy is one of the most appropriate lightweight alloys for auto parts, the low formability of an aluminum alloy has been an obstacle to its application. In order to resolve the low formability problem, a recent study (Lee et al., 2017 [1]) showed that the infrared (IR) local heat treatment can improve the formability with a reduction of heating energy. However, the aforementioned study was limited to only a linear line heating. Since many of the available auto parts as applicable to vehicle manufacturing have a curved line shape, the heating experiments for a curved line should be studied. The possibility of building IR lamps having complex shapes is an advantage of the IR lamp, since it can control the heating shape. This work conducted the IR local heat treatment for the curved line. The experimental results show that the IR local heat treatment can improve the formability of the aluminum alloy for curved line. Additionally, it is shown that the IR local heat treatment also reduces the heating energy when it is compared with the furnace heating which heats a blank as a whole. A numerical simulation with a stress-based forming limit diagram also supports the experimental results.

Economic analysis comparison between the carbon nano heating pipe and the hot air heater in greenhouse were 41% respectively.
This study attempted to investigate the value of photoelectric sensors in terms of a defrost-control method. Tests were conducted in a calorimeter room under the heating with the defrost-performance test conditions described in KS C 9306. Accordingly, the photoelectric technology is a competitive defrost-control method that can precisely control the operational defrost cycle using the output voltages that are proportional to the frost height. The heating period is gradually reduced because the complex defrost-control method, for which the sensors initiate the defrosting process and the defrosting process is terminated by the time parameter, could not adjust the net defrosting time by itself. Therefore, a complex defrost-control method, for which the photoelectric sensors start the defrosting process and it is terminated by the temperature parameter, is preferred because of the adjustment of the net defrosting time. Regardless of the defrost-control method, the first defrosting cycle is activated earlier than the times that are determined in the second and third cycles and so on, because the first operation cycle can decide the characteristics of the subsequent cycle.
This paper presents the optimal design of a heating system using radiant heating elements for application in smart farms. Smart farming, an advanced agricultural technology, is based on artificial intelligence and the internet of things and promotes crop production. Temperature and humidity regulation is critical in smart farms, and thus, a heating system is essential. Radiant heating elements are devices that generate heat using electrical energy. Among other applications, radiant heating elements are used for environmental control and heating in smart farm greenhouses. The performance of these elements is directly related to their electrical energy consumption. Therefore, achieving a balance between efficient electrical energy consumption and maximum heating performance in smart farms is crucial for the optimal design of radiant heating elements. In this study, the size, electrical energy supply, heat generation efficiency, and heating performance of radiant heating elements used in these heating systems were investigated. The effects of the size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements on the heating performance were experimentally analyzed. As the radiant heating element size increased, the heat generation efficiency improved, but the electrical energy consumption also increased. In addition, increasing the electrical energy supply improved both the heat generation efficiency and heating performance of the radiant heating elements. Based on these results, a method for determining the optimal size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements was proposed, and it reduced the electrical energy consumption while maintaining an appropriate heating performance in smart farms. These research findings are expected to contribute to energy conservation and performance improvement in smart farming.
In Joule-heating-induced crystallization, solid-to-solid or liquid-to-solid phase transformation could occur. It was found that novel physical phenomena that randomly nucleated liquid seeds, followed by rapid solidification in an amorphous matrix, during the Joule-heating-up period play an important role especially in liquid-to-solid transformation. Under some processing conditions, super-grains sized 6-8 ${\um}m$ were produced by the lateral growth from the initial seeds, without any artificially control.
High-frequency induction is an efficient way to heat mold surface by electromagnetic induction in a noncontact procedure. It has been recently applied to the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Though the induction heating has an advantage in terms of its rapid-heating capacity on the mold surface, it still has difficulty in efficient mold temperature control due to the restriction of an induction coil design suitable for the given mold shape. The present study proposed a localized mold heating method by means of selective use of mold material. For localized induction heating, an injection mold composed of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material is used. The electromagnetic induction concentrates on the ferromagnetic material, from which we can selectively heat for the local mold elements. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through an experimental measurement in terms of the heating efficiency on the localized mold surface.
