  • Root zone temperature have influenced on protected cultivation in winter season. Especially root zone temperature is acted on limiting factor in crop cultivation. This study was conducted to obtain optimum temperature of root zone in Protected cultivation Root zone was warmed by heated water($28^{\circ}C$) flowing through the PPC pipe(${\phi}15$) buried depth 40 cm. And the flowing water was heated by solar system. Minimum air temperature during night time was set at $14^{\circ}C$ and maximum air temperature during day time was set at $28~30^{\circ}C$ the growing period of cucumber was from Nov. 6, 1996 to Jan. 30, 1997. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Average soil temperature at 15~20 cm depth was $22^{\circ}C$ at warming plots, $17~18^{\circ}C$ at non-warming plots 2. Early growth in leaf length, stem diameter, number of leaves and leaf area for 30 days after planting were accelerated by root zone warming. Especially, the grawing rate of soil warming plots was higher 27% in leaf length, 51% in leaf number, 150% in leaf area than non-warming Plots. Above-ground and underground part of warming plots was higher 117%, 56% than non-warming plots. 3. In total yield analysis, number of fruits were 614 in soil warming and 313 in non-warming plots. In the result, total yield of soil warming plots was increased with 196% than non-warming plots. 3. In total yield analysis. number of fruits were 614 in soil warming and 313 in non-warming plots. Refining of Silicon by Fractional Melting Process (Fractional Melting에 의한 Si 정련에 관한 연구)

  • Fractional melting process involves heating an alloy within its liquid-solid region simultaneously ejecting liquid from the solid-liquid mixture. The extent of the purification obtained is comparable to that obtained in multi-pass zone refining. The new fractional melting process in which centrifugal force was used for separating the liquid from the mixture has been developed and applied to the purification of the metallic grade. Refining ratio depends on partition ratio, cake wetness and diffusion in the solid, and it was controlled by various processing parameters such as rotating speed and heating rate. The new parameter called "refining partition coefficient" has been suggested to estimate the effects of processing variables on the refining ratio. Because major impurities in MG-silicon such as Fe, Al, Ni have a low segregation coefficient, good purification effect is expected. The results of refining MG-silicon(98%) showed that 3N-Si was obtained in refined solid of 50% of the original sample.

  • An experimental study for the two types of burners used in the non-oxidizing direct fired furnaces of the heat treatment process for the cold rolled plate has been carried out to investigate the combustion characteristics and the oxidization of the surface of steel plate. A steep temperature gradient and entrainment of residual oxygen were found near the heating surface in the flame of the nozzle mixing burner which has strong swirl velocity component. It was concluded that the elimination of the residual oxygen and the increase of the temperature of combustion gas on the heating surface are needed to enhance the performance of the burners for application to the non-oxidizing direct fired furnaces.

  • In the present work, a formula for plate deformation produced by line heating, in terms of process parameters such as heat input and plate dimensions, is developed analytically using an eigenstrain concept. The residual deformation that was due to thermal process was depends on the magnitude and region of plastic strains at heating zone. The magnitude of plastic strains was determined by disk model and its region was calculated using the Rosenthal"s solution. The vertical displacement of the plate was analyzed by using an infinite laminated plate theory to consider a cuboidal inclusion with an eigenstrain. Comparison of the calculated results and experimental data shows the accuracy and validity of proposed method.thod.

  • This study is concerned with air-conditioning system in use of thermoelectric device. It is introduced that the well designed structures for better cooling & heating performance with high efficiency. And also it is performed that the system performance test of four types trial products for the use of hybrid commercial vehicle. System performance is affected by many component parts, especially heat sink design & power control method. It is applied that dual extrusive fin tube with buffer zone for the effective radiating of circulating liquid in tube. And also it is applied that power supply method with constant-current system. It is attained that system cooling capacity is 1.2kW, COP is 0.95.

  • This study was to estimate how about various effects on the body thermal sensation as air velocity. clo. mean radiant temperature and resultant temperature are varied. The indoor thermal environment elements are measured under the five different of air velocity. Using the above considerations. the following results are obtained. ▶ The states, the air velocity under 0.5 m/s and 0.63 to 0.9 clo. were shown that the comfort zone of mean radiant temperature by 21.2~24.7C, the neutral point by 22.8C, the resultant temperature by 20.7-24.4C and the neutral point by 22.6C. ▶ On equal condition, the draft was occurred at a given air-velocity under 0.5m.s. It was also appeared the floor panel heating system affecting the body thermal sensation by the subject’s below-chest parts and the local discomfort by sensations on the feet and the knees.

  • In this study, the thermal performance of the room control system is analyzed in terms of control performance, potential for coil expansion and energy consumption through experiments comparing the individual room control system and an existing system. The results of this study show that the existing system is not able to supply design water flow rate and does not accurately maintain the set point temperature in each room. However, the individual room control system can set a room air temperature for each room, for it is able to supply design water flow and accurately control the set point temperature in each room and can reduce the energy consumption compared to the existing system. Moreover, the individual room control system can reduce the number of coil division zone and facilitates the construction process, because it can extend the length of the coil division.

  • There are more oxygen ions than hydrogen ions in the auroral field zone. We consider both analytic and numerical simulation study of the heating of hydrogen and oxygen ions by auroral electrons. With the low drift speed of electron beams, the ion-ion hybrid wave becomes unstable instead of the lower hydrid wave so that a preferential heating of oxygen ions occurs.

  • The horizontal continuous casting process with the heating mold was adopted for fabricating defect-free 4043 Al alloy rods of 3.2m dia. with mirror surfaces. These rods were drawn into 2.4mm dia. rods for GTAW welding. The GTAW welding tests were carried out by use of these welding rods with 6061 Al alloy as a base metal. After welding, the X-ray tests, tensile strength tests, bending tests, and microstructural analysis of welded zone and HAZ were carried out. The results represented that the welding rods with good surfaces and welding properties could be made by the horizontal continuous casting, and followed by the drawing process.

  • A new mathematical model to determine the optimal gas temperatures in reheating furnace was proposed for the good quality of products. This model employs sensitivity method to calculate the optimal gas temperatures in each zone for heating the slab up to its discharging target temperature and for heating it uniformly. This method was validated by showing that the calculated discharging temperature of the slab was in a good agreement with its prescribed discharging target one through an off-line simulation.
