The efficiency and capacity of an air source heat pump system decrease as the ambient temperature drops. One strategy of avoiding the decrease of the efficiency and capacity in air source heat pump system is to switch to another thermal energy source. Water can be a good candidate for the heat source. This paper presents the results of the performance analysis of heat pump system with a single unit dual source(SUDS) evaporator The heat exchanger combines two separated evaporators into a single evaporator and the object of the SUDS evaporator is to recover energy from dual heat sources, i.e. air and water. Simulation program is developed for the dual source heat pump system with a SUDS evaporator and experimental data are obtained and compared with the simulation results. Differences in heating capacity and COP are 7% and 8% respectively. Simulation results are in good agreement with the test results. Therefore, the developed program is effectively used for the design and performance prediction of the dual source heat pump system with a SUDS evaporator.

In this study, the performance of the single heat source system and the hybrid system was comparatively analyzed. Case 1 is a ground heat source system, and Case 2 is a water heat source system. Case 3, a hybrid system, reduced the capacity of the ground heat source and applied a water heat source as an auxiliary heat source, and Case 4 was composed of a system that applied a water heat source as an auxiliary heat source to the ground heat source system. As a result of the simulation, in case 3, energy consumption was reduced by up to 2.67% compared to ground sources for cooling. In Case 4, COP was improved by up to 10.02% compared to ground sources during cooling, and EST was calculated to be 2.42℃ lower. During heating, 0.83% was improved compared to the water heat source. At this time, the EST was calculated to be 2.25℃ higher than the water heat source.

In this study, combined heat source heat pump system was implemented with 4 single heat source heat pumps each applied with a geothermal source and a water source. Five cases (Case1~Case5) were configured to conduct a performance comparison and analysis of the combined heat source heat pump system. First of all, as a result of analyzing the heat source, the case when 4 ground heat sources were applied (Case1) showed a uniform EST(Entering Source Temperature) distribution throughout the year since it is less affected by outside air compared to the case when 4 water heat sources were applied (Case5). In both winter and summer, the ground heat source maintained higher EST than the water heat source. Therefore, the system with high ratio of geothermal sources is advantageous for heating, and with high ratio of water heat sources is advantageous for cooling.
In order to understand the basic knowledge on the model of heat source in hybrid welding, authors have conducted finite element analysis to calculate heat distribution using three heat source models of non-split type and split type(Volume, Volume-Volume, Volume-Surface). From the research result, we can confirm that Volume-Volume heat source of split type is suitable for the analysis of heat distribution.

Ground source heat pump systems (GSHP) can achieve higher performance of the system, by supplying more efficient heat source to the heat pump, than the conventional air-source heat pump system. But building clients and designers have hesitated to use GSHP systems, due to expensive initial cost, and uncertain economic feasibility. In order to reduce the initial cost, many researches have focused on the energy-pile system, using the structure of the building as a heat exchanger. Even though several experimental studies for the energy-pile system have been conducted, there was not enough data of quantitative evaluation with economic analysis and comprehensive analysis for the energy-pile. In this study, a prediction method has been developed for the energy pile system with barrette pile, using the ground heat transfer model and ground heat exchanger model. Moreover, a feasibility study for the energy pile system with barrette pile was conducted, by performance analysis and LCC assessment. As a result, it was found that the heat exchange rate of a barrette pile was 2.55 kW, and the payback period using LCC analysis was 8.8 years.
In this research, various heat source equations that have been proposed in previous study were calculated and compared with new model in various laser parameters. This is to treat the problem of predicting, by numerical analysis, the thermo-mechanical behaviors of laser spot welding for thin stainless steel plates. A finite element code, ABAQUS is used for the heat transfer analysis with a three-dimensional plane assumption. Experimental studies if the laser spot welding have also bee conducted to validate the numerical models presented. The results suggest that temperature profiles and weld dimensions are varied according to the heat source of the laser beam. For this reason, it is essential to incorporate an accurate description of the heat source.

In this study, the ground source heat pump was installed at a research center in Jeju Island to verify the performance of the system and to give an information for a economic feasibility. The performance test was conducted until the heat storage tank temperature reached at $5^{\circ}C$ from $50^{\circ}C$ in the cooling operation, and until the storage temperature goes up to $50^{\circ}C$ from $10^{\circ}C$ in the heating mode. As results, the system performance shows that $2.2{\sim}3.5$ for the cooling operation and $2.5{\sim}3.5$ for heating operation. It is found that the underground is good heat source for the heat pump with $3{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ variation range. The ground source heat pump could be connected one of air conditioning system without any problem in system performance. Based on the economic analysis, the initial cost for the ground source heat pump will be compensated after 4 years operation. If the system runs 20 years, approximately 300 million Won will be saved when the air conditioning system adapt the ground source heat pump based on Life Cycle Cost analysis.

In this study, comparative analysis of energy performance in Taebaek city, a test area, by applying hydrothermal, geothermal source and hybrid heat pump system to office, school and smart farms with different internal heat loads. The conclusion is as follows. In the load characteristics by use of buildings, it was found that office had a large cooling load compared to heating load, school had a large heating load compared to cooling load, and smart farm had only cooling load year-round. Performance analysis of the heat pump system in office shows that the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source is 5.12% and the heating COP is 3.22% lower based on the geothermal source, the cooling COP of the hybrid is 0.41% higher, and the heating COP is the difference in performance appeared sparsely. The performance analysis of the heat pump system in school showed that the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source was 10.44% and the heating COP 3.22% lower based on the geothermal source, and the performance difference between the hybrid cooling and heating COP was insignificant. Heat pump system performance analysis in smart farm only occurred with cooling load. Based on geothermal sources, the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source was 46% and the cooling COP of the hybrid was 19.65%, respectively.

Numerical analysis for the flow and heat transfer in solid particle moving beds of heat exchangers is presented. The solid particle flow through the bundle of heat source tubes by the gravitational force. The heat energy is transferred through the direct contact of particles with the heat source tubes. The viscous-plastic fluid model and the convective heat transfer model are employed in the analysis. The flow field dominantly influences the total heat transfer in a heat exchanger. As the velocities of solid particles around the heat source tubes increase, the amount of heat transfer from the tubes increases. Some examples are presented to show the performance of the numerical model. The flow effect on the heat transfer is also studied through the examples.
This study presents an analysis method for heat flow and deformation of sheet metal laser welding. A heat source model for 2-dimensional heat flow analysis of laser welding process was suggested in this paper. To investigate the availability of the heat source model, the analysis results were compared and estimated with the results of previous researches. We could get a good agreement between the results of numerical analysis and experiments in the temperature distribution of weldment. Due to the characteristics of welding process, some kinds of deformations are usually generated in a welded structure. Generally, the degree of deformation is dependent on the welding sequence constraints as well as input power Therefore, in this paper we evaluate the deformation of gas pressure vessel according to the welding sequence and input power. In the analysis of weld deformation, 2-dimensional thermo-elasto-plastic analysis was performed for the gas pressure vessel by using a commercial FE program package.
