The experimental heat transfer coefficients have been measured for two-phase convective boiling in two circular microtubes with inner diameters of $430{\mu}m\;and\;792{\mu}m$. While the heat transfer was greatly affected by the heat flux in the low quality region, the mass flux played a role in the high quality region. The smaller microtube had greater heat transfer coefficients. When the heat flux is varied from $20kW/m^2\;to\;30kW/m^2\;at\;G=240kg/m^2s$, the difference between the average heat transfer coefficients of the test tube $A(D_i=430{\mu}m)$ and the test tube $B(D_i=792{\mu}m)$ changes from $32.5\%\;to\;52.1\%$. At $G=370kg/m2^s$, the difference between the average heat transfer coefficients changes from $47.0\%\;to\;53.8\%$. A new correlation for the evaporative heat transfer coefficients in microtubes was developed by considering the following factors; the laminar flow heat transfer coefficient of liquid-phase flow, the enhancement factor of the convective heat transfer, and the nucleate boiling correction factor. The correlation developed in this study predicts the experimental heat transfer coefficients within an absolute average deviation of $8.4\%$.
Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the turbulent convective heat transfer of the supercritical carbon dioxide flows in vertical and horizontal square ducts. The gas cooling process at the supercritical state experiences a sudden change in thermodynamic and transport properties. This results in the extraordinary variations of the heat transfer coefficients in the supercritical state, which are much different from those of single or two phase flows. Algebraic second moment closure which can include the effects of large thermophysical property variations of carbon dioxide and of buoyancy is employed to model the Reynolds stresses and turbulent heat fluxes in the governing equations. The previous correlations for the turbulent heat transfer coefficient for the supercritical carbon dioxide flows couldn't reflect the buoyancy effect. The present results are used to establish a new heat transfer coefficient correlation including the effects of large thermophysical property variation and buoyancy on in-duct cooling process of supercritical carbon dioxide.
This work was performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of the circular fin-tube heat exchanger. This paper contains the experimental data for the seven kinds of fin geometries. The correlation of Stasiulevicius agreed with the experimental data at high Reynolds number, however not well at low Reynolds number. The Nusselt number was well correlated with Graetz number, and showed a transition near Gz=10. An empirical correlation proposed in the present work agreed well with the experimental data.

An experimental study has been conducted on the natural convection heat transfer for the 7 kinds of circular finned tube heat exchangers. Empirical correlation was suggested at the range of 3,500
This paper is presented an experimental study of flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of ammonia, and is focused on pressure gradient and heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant flow inside horizontal small tube with inner diameter of 3.0 mm and length of 2000 mm. The direct heating method is applied for supplying heat to the refrigerant, where the test tube is uniformly heated by electric current. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 20 to $80kW/m^2$, a mass flux range of 50 to $500kg/m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 0 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The pressure drops increase with increasing mass flux and heat flux, and with decreasing saturation temperature. The heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing mass flux and saturation temperature in middle and high quality region. And the local heat transfer coefficient increase with increasing heat flux in low quality region. The heat transfer coefficient of the experimental result was compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlation. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for ammonia in small tubes is developed average deviation of -0.17% and mean deviation of 10.85%.
Pool boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of HCFC123, CFC11, HCFC142b, HFC134a, CFC12, HFC22, HFC125 and HFC32 on a horizontal smooth tube have been measured. The experimental apparatus is specially designed to simulate the real heat transfer tube with the use of the secondary fluid of water as a heat source rather than a conventional electric heat source. Data were taken in the order of decreasing heat flux starting at $80 ㎾/m^2\; and \;ending\; at\; 5㎾/m^2\;in\; the\; poo\;l temperature\; at\; 7^{\circ}C$, Test results showed that HTCs of HFC125, and HFC32 are 50~67% higher than those of HCFC22. It is also found that some of the popular pool boiling heat transfer correlations in the literature are not good to predict the HTCs of newly developed alternative refrigerants. A new correlation was developed by a regression analysis which is based upon the consistent data obtained in this study and it showed an excellent agreement with all experimental data having an absolute mean deviation of less than 10%.
The experiment was conducted to obtain correlation of the air side heat transfer coefficient of wire-on-tube type heat exchanger using the single layer heat exchanger. The correction factors to Zhukauskas correlation was driven from the experimental results. The numerical analysis and experiment with several wire-on-tube type condensers to validate the correction factors are also peformed. The maximum discrepancy between experimental results and the numerical results using the correction factors of this study and Zhukauskas correlation is 10.0%, while that of reference correlation is 47.5%.
This paper measures the forced convective heat transfer from heated cylinder to air flow in a rectangular duct at Re$_{D}$ =2,337, 4,589, 6,621 and 7,944 through experiments. And the heat transfer is computed by 3-D numerical computation in which various turbulent models are applied. It is shown through the comparison of experimental and computed data that numerical computation with standard k-$\varepsilon$ model predicts the experimental data most accurately. Furthermore, the correlation from the computed heat transfer is almost similar to that from the experiment when Re$_{D}$ is greater than 4,589. In addition, the correlation of McAdams is the closest to that from experimental data among various correlations from literature in the range of Reynolds number.ber.
A simplified heat transfer model for the cooling capability of the AP 600 PCCS is proposed I this paper. As the PCCS domain is covered with very thin and long water film, it is phenomenologically divided into 3 regions; water entrance effect region, asymptotic region, and air entrance effect region. As the length of the asymptotic region is estimated to be over 90% of the whole domain, the phenomena in the asymptotic region is focused. Using the analogy between heat and mass transfer phenomena in a turbulent situation, a new dependent variable combining temperature and vapor mass fraction was defined. The similarity between the PCCs phenomena in the asymptotic region and the buoyant air flow phenomena on a vertical heated plate is derived. Using the similarity, the simplified heat transfer correlations for the interfacial heat fluxes and the ratios of latent heat transfer to sensible heat transfer were established. To verify the accuracy of the correlation, the results of this study were compared with those of other numerical analyses performed for the same configuration and they are well within the range of 15% difference.
Heat transfer coefficient were measured and new correlations were developed for two-phase heat transfer in a horizontal pipe for different patterns. Flow patterns were observed in a transparent circular pipe (2.54 cm I. D. and L/D=96) using an air/water mixture. Visual identification of the flow patterns was supplemented with photographic data and the results were plotted on the flow regime map proposed by Taitel and Dukler and agreed quite well with each other. A two-phase heat transfer experimental setup was built for this study and a total of 150 two-phase heat transfer data with different flow patterns were obtained under a uniform wall heat flux boundary condition. For these data, the superficial Reynolds number ranged from 640 to 35,500 for the liquid and from 540 to 21,200 for the gas. Our previously developed robust two-phase heat transfer correlation for a vertical pipe with modified constants predicted the horizontal pipe air-water heat transfer experimental data with good accuracy. Overall the proposed correlations predicted the data with a mean deviation of 1.0% and an rms deviation of 12%.
