Thermal insulation is used in a variety of applications to protect temperature sensitive products from thermal damage. Several factors affect the performance of insulation packages. Among these factors, the thermal resistance of the insulating wall is the most important factor to determine the performance of the insulating package. In many cases, insulating wall consists of multi-layered structure and the heat transfer through this structure is a very complex process. In this study, an one-dimensional mathematical model, which includes all of the heat transfer principles covering conduction, convection and radiation in multi-layered structure, were developed. Based on this model, several heat transfer phenomena occurred in the air space between the layer of the insulating wall were investigated. From the simulation results, it was observed that the heat transfer through the air space between the layer were dominated by conduction and radiation and the low emissivity of the surface of each solid layer of the wall can dramatically increase the thermal resistance of the wall. For practical use, an equation was derived for the calculation of the thermal resistance of a multi-layered wall.
For long life time and high efficiency, not necessary in improvement of LED chip structure, but also improve heat radiation for decrease heat in LED chip. In this study, efficiency decline factor has been investigated in LED lamp as study heat characteristic, luminance flux and heat resistance. When LED lamp temperature was increased, about 7% loss of luminance flux. In consequence of temperature analysis, width of fin was the most important factor of heat radiation. As a result, secure the enough heat path is very important factor of LED lamp design.
The leak before break(LBB) concept is difficult to apply to a structure with a thin tube that is immersed in a water environment. A heat exchanger in a nuclear power plant is such a structure. The present paper addresses an application of the LBB concept to a heat exchanger in a nuclear power plant. The minimum leaked coolant amount(approximately 37.9 liters) containing the radioactive material which can activate the radiation detector device installed in near the heat exchanger is assumed. A postulated initial flaw size that can not grow to a critical flaw size within the time period to activate the radiation detector is justified. In this case, the radiation detector can activate the warning signal caused by coolant leakage from initially postulated flaws of the heat exchanger. The nuclear plant can safely shutdown when this occurs. Since the postulated initial flaw size can not grow to the critical flaw size, the structural integrity of the heat exchanger is not impeded. Particularly the informational scenario presented in this paper discusses an actual nuclear plant.
This study is about the passive cooling effects of three outdoor solar shading facilities as trees, pergola with wistaria vine and membrane shading structure, which are expected to provide cool spots in the summer. Field observations of measuring thermal environment of selected facilities is executed. Thermal environment measuring was categorized as short wave radiation, long wave radiation, net radiation, globe temperature, surface temperature measured by infrared camera. Heat transfer mechanism is analyzed with overall data from field measurement. Results from this study are as below; 1) Radiation balance measured on shaded surface under membrane shading structure was 17%($86W/m^2$) of the unshaded surface radiation balance($511W/m^2$). 2) Surface temperature comparison between vegetation and membrane of the shading structure is performed at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Surface temperature of vegetation was same as air temperature and that of membrane was $5^{\circ}C$ higher than air temperature. Vegetation transpiration is considered as the causing factor which make those differences. 3) Results from this study could be used as fundamental data for reducing heat island phenomena and continuos research on this subject would be needed.
Heat losses from the receivers of a dish-type solar energy collecting system at the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) are numerically investigated. It is assumed that a number of flat square mirrors are arranged on the parabolic dish structure to serve as a reflector. Two different types of receivers, which have conical and dome shapes, are considered for the system, and several modes of heat losses from the receivers are thoroughly studied. Using the Stine and McDonald model convective heat loss from a receiver is estimated. The Net Radiation Method is used to calculate the radiation heat transfer rate by emission from the inside surface of the cavity receiver to the environment. The Monte-Carlo Method is used to predict the radiation heat transfer rate from the reflector to the receiver. Tracing the photons generated, the reflection loss from the receivers can be estimated. The radiative heat flux distribution produced by a multifaceted parabolic concentrator on the focal plane is estimated using the cone optics method. Also, the solar radiation spillage around the aperture is calculated. Based on the results of the analysis, the performances of two different receivers with multifaceted parabolic solar energy collectors are evaluated.
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels were prepared by the irradiation and heating. Irradiation and heating processes were carried out to improve the heat resistance of PVA hydrogels at high temperature. The physical properties such as gel content, degree of swelling and gel strength for the synthesized hydrogels were examined. The structure variations were investigated using the following techniques: differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Gel content and gel strength of the hydrogels were higher when the two steps of irradiation followed by heat treatment were used rather than only with the irradiation. The hydrogels prepared by the irradiation and the two steps had good heat resistance at high temperature.

The Improvement of thermal performance using heat treatment of carbon nanotubes coated on the copper heat sink to take the radiation energy from solar ray for the energy harvesting in earth orbit. Using the additive coating of purified CNT for the increase of specific area and development of thermal conductive capacity, the performance of heat transfer is improved about 0.181 K/W while applying the power of 22 W under temperature of 3.98℃. Coating of purified CNT shows increase of area and volume of thermal layer however it led the partial thermal resistance.

A onetimensional distribution of the temperature and the heat source in the SOI (silicon-on-insulator) multi-layer structure illuminated by tungsten lamps from both sides was obtained by solving the heat equation in steady state on a finite difference grid using successive over-relaxation method. The heat source distribution was obtained by considering such features as spectral components of the light source, multiple reflection at the internal interfaces, temperature and frequency dependence of the light absorption coefficient, etc. The front and back surface temperatures, which are boundary conditions for the heat equation, were derived from a requirement that they satisfy the radiation conditions. The radiation flux as well as the conduction flux was considered in modelling the thermal behaviour at the internal interfaces. Since the temperature and the heat source profiles are strongly dependent upon each other, the calculation of each profile was iterated using the updated profile of the other until they are consistent with each other. The experimental temperature at the front surface of the wafer as measured by Pyrometer was about 1200$^{\circ}$K, while the simulated temperature was 1120$^{\circ}$K.
Our company produces boilers for industrial usages or power plants. The aim of this study is to investigate the flame structure, heat transfer to evaporator tube wall and NOx emission in the furnaces. Also we are to derive correct FEGT(Furnace Exit Gas Temperature) characteristic curve. When we design furnace and superheater, economizer etc. FEGT characteristic curve is very important factor for optimum design. We calculated turbulent reacting flow, heat transfer and NOx emission in furnace by using numerical modeling with the help of commercial code. Three dimensional steady state calculation is done. k-e turbulence model and equilibrium chemistry combustion model with $\beta-probability$ density function is used. To calculate radiation heat transfer discrete ordinates model is used. And we measured FEGT at several operating plants. Measurement is done by R-type thermocouple. Radiation shield is attached to the thermocouple to prevent radiation effect. Measured and calculated results show good agreement. And we could understand the flame structure and NOx formation positions in each furnaces.
