Traditionally, it is measured by using basin or empirical formula with meteorology data, while it does not represent the evaportransporation over a regional area. With the advent of improved remote sensing technology, it becomes feasible to assess the ET over a regional scale. Firstly, the IMAGINE ATCOR atmospheric module is used to preprocess for the MODIS imagery. Then MODIS satellite images which have been corrected by radiation and geometry in conjunction with the in-situ surface meteorological measurement are used to estimate the surface heat fluxes such as soil heat flux, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux. In addition, the correlation coefficient between the derived latent heat and the in-situ measurement is found to be over 0.76. In the future, we will continue to monitor the surface heat fluxes of paddy rice field in Chiayi area.
In a one-dimensional heat conduction domain with heated and insulated walls, an integral approach is proposed to estimate time-dependent boundary heat flux without internal measurements. It is assumed that the expression of the heat flux is not known a priori. Hence, the present inverse heat conduction problem is classified as a function estimation problem. The spatial temperature distribution is approximated as a third-order polynomial of position, whose four coefficients are determined from the heat fluxes and the temperatures at both ends at each measurement. After integrating the heat conduction equation over spatial and time domain, respectively, a simple and non-iterative recursive equation to estimate the time-dependent boundary heat flux is derived. Several examples are introduced to show the effectiveness of the present approach.

In order to measure the piston surface temperature and heat flux, autors have developed the measuring system with an instantaneous temperature probe. Such the instantaneous temperature probes were embodied into the top of piston for measurement and L-link system, designed to fit the test engine, extracts the thermocouple wires from the piston outside of engine employing a mechanical linkage. Then the instantaneous surface temperature was measured to calculate the heat flux flowing into the top surface of piston in a spark ignition engine. As a result, the following phenomena have been obtained through the study. 1) It is found that the time response and durability of temperature probe with a thin film thickness 10um and mechanical linkage with thermocouple wire extraction is sufficient at this experiment. 2) For the quantitative effect of variation in engine speed, the temperature swing and heat flux on the top of piston increase with increasing the engine speed. 3) It is proved that the temperature swing and heat flux decrease with distance from spark plug.
Heat loss from windows and condensation occuring on its surface due to its lower insulation value causes much discomfort to occupants. In this study, Heated glass was used to make a basic study on prevention of condensation on glass surface for its heating functionality through experimental measurement and simulation analysis of total heat flux on the interior and exterior surface of glass. Error between experimental results and three dimensional steady-state heat transfer analysis were caused firstly, beacuse in the experimental chambers, cold chamber and steady temperature and humidity chamber, air temperature setting was not constant but rather ON/OFF control, and secondly, due to error rate in heat flux meter due to heat flux direction even in stable conditions.
Daegu Solar Power Tower Plant of 200 kW thermal capacity was developed for the first time in Korea, 2011. Measurement of the heat flux distribution is essential to evaluate the solar energy concentrated by reflectors and to design a suitable receiver. The flux mapping technique, which uses a radiometer and a diffuse plate, is common for measurement of the heat flux distribution. Because the solar power tower plant has a wide concentration area, the flux mapping technique using a fixed diffuse plate is difficult to apply. Therefore, the flux distribution in the solar power tower plant should be measured by the flux mapping technique using a small moving bar. In this study, we measured flux distributions with the moving-bar system developed at the KIER solar furnace and evaluated its applicability for the solar power tower plant.

Because of lack of accurate understanding of the mechanism of urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon and lack of scientific discussion, it is hard to come up with effective measures to mitigate UHI phenomenon. This study systematically described the UHI and suggested the solutions using green-infrastructure (green-infra). The factors that control UHI are very diverse: radiant heat flux, latent heat flux, storage heat flux, and artificial heat flux, and the air temperature is formed by the combination effect of radiation, conduction and convection. Green-infra strategies can improve thermal environment by reducing radiant heat flux (the albedo effect, the shade effect), increasing latent heat flux (the evapotranspiration effect), and creating a wind path (cooling air flow). As a result of measurement, green-infra could reduce radiant heat flux as $270W/m^2$ due to shadow effect and produce $170W/m^2$ latent heat flux due to evaporation. Finally, green-infra can be applied differently on the macro(urban) scale and micro scale, therefore, we should plan and design green-infra after the target objects of structures are set.
The Antarctic Peninsula is important in terms of global warming research due to pronounced increase of air temperature over the last century. The first eddy covariance system was established at King Sejong Station located in the northern region of the Antarctic Peninsula in December of 2002 and has been operated over one year. Here, we analyze turbulent characteristics to determine quality control criteria for turbulent sensible heat flux data as well as to diagnose the possibility of long term eddy covariance measurement under extreme weather conditions of the Antarctic Peninsula. We also report the preliminary result on sensible heat flux. Based on the analyses on turbulent characteristics such as integral turbulence characteristics of vertical velocity (w) and heat (T), stationarity test and investigation of correlation coefficient, they fallow the Monin-Obukhov similarity and eddy covariance flux data were reliable. ${\sim}47%$ of total retrieved sensible heat flux data could be used for further analysis. Daytime averaged sensible heat flux showed a pronounced seasonal variation, with a maximum of up to $300Wm^{-2}$ in summer. In conclusion, continuous and long-term eddy covariance measurement may be possible at the study site and the land surface may influence the atmosphere significantly through heat transport in summer.
When the heat flux on the heating surface following changing heat condition in the boiling heat transfer system exceeds critical heat flux, the critical heat flux phenomenon is going over to immediately the film boiling area and then it is occurred the physical destruction phenomenon of various heat transfer systems. In order to maximize the safe operation and performance of the heat transfer system, it is essential to improve the CHF(Critical Heat Flux) of the system. Therefore, we have analysis the effect of improving CHF and characteristics of heat transfer following the nanoparticle coating thickness. As the results, copper nanocoating time are increased to CHF, and in case of nano-coatings are increased spray-deposited coating times more than in the fure water; copper nanopowder is increased up to 6.40%. The boiling heat transfer coefficients of the pure water are increased up to 5.79% respectively. Also, the contact angle is decreased and surface roughness is increased when nano-coating time is increasingly going up.
A solar thermal simulator is suitable for indoor experiments of solar receivers and reactors when solar insolation and weather conditions are not favorable. Moreover, due to the easy control of electric power input, the solar thermal simulator allows the adjustment of power input incident on solar receivers and reactors and thus the implementation of accurate experiments. We manufactured a solar simulator, which is comprised of three sets of a xenon lamp and an elliptical reflector. In order to serve as a test facility, optical characterization of the solar simulator via radiation heat flux measurement is a critical prerequisite. We applied the flux mapping method to measuring the heat flux distribution of the three lamps. We presented the measurement results in terms of the heat flux distribution, the peak heat flux, the power distribution, the maximum power, and the efficiency for electric power conversion into radiation power. Characterization results show that our solar simulator provides the peak heat flux of $3,019kW/m^2$, the maximum power of 16.9 kW, and the conversion efficiency of 45%, additionally with a 10% operation margin for output increase.

For the experimental measurement of heat flux of DI diesel engine combustion chamber, the instantaneous temperature probes and data acquisition system were developed. By the analysis of measured temperatures at the cylinder head, the temperature at the point 3 which is located between intake and exhaust valve was higher than that of the other points. Temperatures at the point located mear the exhaust valve were higher than those of intake valve. The instantaneous and mean temperature at the cylinder head increases proportionally to the increase of the engine speed, while the temperature swing varies inversely. Temperature swings have influence on the maximum heat flux values from gas into head surface. It has been verified that these probes and data acquisition system perform well by the comparison of the trend of instantaneous temperature variation with that of measured combustion chamber pressure variation with respect to crank angle. It is presumed that these probes could be used in the measurement of other parts of combustion chamber as piston, cylinder wall etc. for the future study.
