The paper deals with a model founded on the physical processes in concrete subject to high temperatures. The model is developed in the framework of continuum damage mechanics and the theory of porous media and is demonstrated on selected structures. The model comprises balance equations for heat transfer, mass transfer of water and vapour, for linear momentum and for reaction. The balance equations are completed by constitutive equations considering the special behaviour of concrete at high temperatures. Furthermore, the limitation and decline of admissible stresses is achieved by using a composed, temperature depending crack surface with a formulation for the damage evolution. Finally, the complete coupled model is applied to several structures and to different concrete in order to determine their influence on the high-temperature-behaviour.
A fuel cell vehicle using a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEM FC) as power source produces electric power by consuming the fuel, hydrogen. The unconsumed hydrogen is recirculated and reused to gain higer stack efficiency and to maintain the humidity in the anode side of the stack. So it is needed considering fuel efficiency to recirculated hydrogen. In this study, the indirect hydrogen recirculation flow rate measurement method for fuel cell vehicle is presented. By modeling of a convergent nozzle ejector and a hydrogen recirculation blower for the hydrogen recirculation of a PEM FC, the hydrogen recirculation flow rate was calculated by means of the mass balance and heat balance at Anode In/Outlet.
This paper reports the analysis of dynamic characteristics of air-cooled condenser. At first, there is an assumption that the superheated vapor flows into the condenser inlet. And in order to consider the effect of pressure change in the dynamic characteristics of the condenser the combined system of condenser and compressor was used. By using the equation of energy balance and the equation of mass balance, the basic equation for describing the dynamic characteristics of condenser can be derived. The transfer function for describing dynamic response of the condenser to flow rate change outlet can be obtained from using linearizations and Laplace transformations of the equation. From this transfer function, analytical investigation which affects the frequency responses of condenser has been made. Through this study, it became possible that the information about the dynamic characteristics of air-cooled condenser is offered. While the average heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant side necessary for the theoretical calculation of the dynamic characteristics is given by calculation method for the tube length and pressure drop of air-cooled condenser.

Greenhouse have been developed to provide the plants with good environmental conditions for cultivation crop, two major factors of which are the inside air temperature and humidity. The inside temperature are influenced by the heating systems, ventilators and for systems among others, which in turn are geverned by some type of controller. Likewise, humidity environment is the result of complex mass exchanges between the inside air and the several elements of the greenhouse and the outside boundaries. Most of the existing models are based on the energy balance method and heat balance equation for modelling the heat and mass fluxes and generating dynamic elements. However, greenhouse are classified as complex system, and need to make a sophisticated modeling. Furthermore, there is a difficulty in using classical control methods for complex process system due to the process are non linear and multi-output(MIMO) systems. In order to predict the time evolution of conditions in certain greenhouse as a function, we present here to use of recurrent neural networks(RNN) which has been used to implement the direct dynamics of the inside temperature and inside humidity of greenhouse. For the training, we used algorithm of a backpropagation Through Time (BPTT). Because the environmental parameters are shared by all time steps in the network, the gradient at each output depends not only on the calculations of the current time step, but also the previous time steps. The training data was emulated to 13 input variables during March 1 to 7, and the model was tested with database file of March 8. The RMSE of results of the temperature modeling was $0.976^{\circ}C$, and the RMSE of humidity simulation was 4.11%, which will be given to prove the performance of RNN in prediction of the greenhouse environment.
This paper presents the experimental and simulation study of a loop heat pipe (LHP) that can be applied to present electronics, space missions and thermal control systems. The present experimental study was carried out employing sintered alumina ceramic wick ($d=2.96\;{\mu}m$, ${\phi}=0.61$). High purity R-134a, R-22 and water were also used as alternative working fluids in addition to ammonia. The experimental study showed that the maximum heat transfer performance for the test LHP in the vertical top heating mode was over 100 Watts when ammonia was used as the working fluid. The simulation results have been compared with the experimental results to validate a simulation model based on the thermal resistance network that was developed to evaluate the performance of LHPs, focusing on their prospective applications in electronics. The simulation model is based on the loop overall energy, mass, and momentum balance. The simulation program can predict the effects of various parameters which affect the performance of LHP within 5% compared with the experimental results.
Formic acid is a representative carboxylic acid that inhibits bacterial cell growth, and thus it is generally considered to constitute an obstacle to the reuse of renewable biomass. In this study, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used to elucidate changes in protein levels in response to formic acid. Fifty-seven differentially expressed proteins in response to formic acid toxicity in S. cerevisiae were identified by 1D-PAGE and nano-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (nano-LC-MS/MS) analyses. Among the 28 proteins increased in expression, four were involved in the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway and one in the oxidative stress-induced pathway. A dramatic increase was observed in the number of ion transporters related to maintenance of acid-base balance. Regarding the 29 proteins decreased in expression, they were found to participate in transcription during cell division. Heat shock protein 70, glutathione reductase, and cytochrome c oxidase were measured by LC-MS/MS analysis. Taken together, the inhibitory action of formic acid on S. cerevisiae cells might disrupt the acidbase balance across the cell membrane and generate oxidative stress, leading to repressed cell division and death. S. cerevisiae also induced expression of ion transporters, which may be required to maintain the acid-base balance when yeast cells are exposed to high concentrations of formic acid in growth medium.
Drying, which is the oldest and most energy-intensive process, is an essential process for treatment of solid product. The specific procedure to design and evaluate the dryers, which are a rotary kiln dryer and a flash dryer, in case of drying the high-moisture coal was described. From determination of size to the heat and mass balance in one-dimensional model were conducted to evaluate the performance of dryers. Heat consumption, inlet gas temperature and size of the dryers were compared between a rotary kiln dryer and a flash dryer. Further considerations to evaluate the reactor elaborately were also discussed. Performance simulation of dryers along with the design procedure described here will provide helpful basis for understanding the concept of reactor design.
The determination method of successful operation conditions to control the temperature and pressure in autoclave after non-taping vulcanization process was represented. Heat and mass balances were constructed to predict the mass flow rates of air, steam, and condensed water into or from autoclave when the temperature and pressure in the autoclave were to be controlled in the desired profiles. The balance equations were solved by appropriate mathematics, and the solution was applied to an autoclave system where the temperature and pressure were linearly decreased. The resulting solutions were illustrated in graphs.
