The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of fiber type, compressional resilience and moisture transport properties of wool and polyester fiber on the heat transfer of insulation nonwovens. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Overall heat transfer of wool nonwoven was slightly higher than that of polyester nonwovens. Warmability of wool nonwoven was lower than that of polyester nonwovens. The radiative heat transfer was in the range of 11~18% of overall heat transfer in polyester nonwovens and 25% in wool nonwoven. 2) As wool nonwoven compressed, overall heat transfer was increased by increasing radiative heat transfer and wamability was decreased due to the poor compressional resilience. 3) Increasing rate of heat transfer by moisture absorption in wool nonwoven was lower than that of polyester nonwovens. Thickness and compressional resilience of wool nonwoven were reduced extremely by moisture absorption.
Mechanical face seal installed in primary heat transport pump used for heavy water reactor prevents leakage of working fluid using thin working fluid film between primary seal ring and mating ring. If the leakage of working fluid exceeds the allowable volume, serious accident can be happened by the trouble of primary heat transport pump. The thinner fluid film exists between primary seal ring and mating ring, the less working fluid leaks out. On the other hand, if the thickness of fluid film is not enough, the life of mechanical face seal will be reduced by friction and wear. Therefore appropriate design is necessary to maximize the performance and life of mechanical face seal. In this study, numerical analysis using finite volume method was conducted to investigate the performance of mechanical face seals which have same deep straight groove and 11 different net coning values. As results, equilibrium clearance between primary seal ring and mating ring, leakage volume of working fluid, friction torque on sealing surface and stiffness of working fluid film were obtained. With increasing net coning value, equilibrium clearance and leakage volume increase, and friction torque and stiffness of fluid film decrease.
The performance prediction of a planar-type solid oxide fuel ceil is conducted by a computational analysis. The transport processes are formulated with the help of a simplified treatment of heat generation by the electrochemical reaction. From the result of the computational analysis, it is shown that the electrochemical reaction is closely related to the transport phenomena inside a solid oxide fuel cell. Transport phenomena including heat and mass transfer have influence on the distribution of local current density and as a result, on the performance characteristics of the fuel cell. Computational analysis is also extended to the parametric study to investigate the performance behavior of the fuel cell with different amount of supplied fuel flow rates. It is also demonstrated that the mathematical formulation and computational procedures proposed in this study can be applied to prove the importance of the specific TPB(Three-Phase-Boundary) area in the manufacturing process of electrodes in a solid oxide fuel cell.
The KN-12 spent nuclear fuel transport cask, which is a Type B(U) package designed to comply with the requirements of Korea Atomic Energy Act[1], IAEA Safety Standards Series No.TS-R-1[2] and US 10 CFR Part 71[3], is designed for carrying up to 12 PWR spent fuel assemblies in a basket structure. The cask has been licensed in accordance with Korea Atomic Energy Act and was fabricated in Korea in accordance with the requirements of ASME B&PV Sec.III, Div.3[4]. The cask must maintain thermal integrity in accordance with the related regulations and be evaluated to verify that the thermal performance of the cask complies with the regulatory requirements. The temperatures of the cask and components were determined by using finite elements methods with a numerical tool, safety tests using an 1/8 height slice model of the real cask were conducted to demonstrate verification of the numerical tool and methods, and heat transfer tests for normal transport conditions were performed as a fabrication acceptance test to demonstrate the heat transfer capability of the cask.
Surface heat balance of the Gangjeong-Goryung Reservoir is analyzed for 12-17 August 2013. Each flux elements at the water surface is derived from the special field observations with application of an aerodynamical bulk method for the turbulent heat fluxes and empirical formulae for the radiation heat fluxes. The rate of heat storage in the reservoir is estimated by using estimated by surface heating rate and the vertical water temperature data. The flux divergence of heat transport is estimated as a residual. The features of the surface heat balance are almost decided by the latent heat flux and the solar radiation flux. On average for 12-17 August 2014 in the Gangjeong- Goryung Reservoir, if one defines the insolation at the water surface as 100 %, 94 % is absorbed in the reservoir; thereafter the reservoir loses about 30~50% by sensible heat, latent heat and net long-wave radiation. The residue of 50~80 % raises the water temperature in the reservoir or transported away by the river flow during the daytime.
The rotor thermal analysis consists of determining the heat load to the rotor, sizing the cryogenic system, and ensuring that the HTS rotor will operate at the design goal of 30 K. The heat load to the rotor is due to heat conduction through the torque tubes, current leads, instrumentation. and radiation from the thermal shield and the end caps. Coil operating temperature is determined from the coil losses and the heat transport to the coolant. An FEM thermal conductivity model is developed to allow calculation of heat transport in HTS field coil according to the heat exchanger shape and coolant feeding method. The losses determine the size of the cryocooler.
Generally, MWCNT, with thermal, chemical and electrical superiority, is manufactured with CVD (chemical vapor deposition). Using MWCNT, it is comonly used as gas sensor of MOS-FET structure. In this study, in order to repeatedly detect gases, the author had to effectively eliminate gases absorbed in a MWCNT sensor. So as to eliminate gases absorbed in a MWCNT sensor, the sensor was applied heat of 423[K], and in order to observe how the applied heat was diffused within the sensor, the author interpreted the diffusion process of heat, using COMSOL interpretation program. In order to interpret the diffusion process of heat, the author progressed modeling with the structure of MWCNT gas sensor in 2-dimension, and defining heat transfer velocity($u={\Delta}T/{\Delta}x$), accorded to governing equation within the sensor, the author proposed heat transfer mechanism.
