This study is related with the experimental investigation on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the fin-and-tube heat exchangers with three different interrupted fins and a plane fin for air-conditioning application. Experiments were conducted accordingly following the appropriate development process. Geometry similitude experiment was introduced to predict the performance of fins, and prototype experiment was also performed to confirm the validity of geometry similitude experimental results. However, these experimental results were limited to the sensible heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchangers. Hence, additional experiment was performed using refrigerant to investigate the latent heat transfer characteristics. This paper presents an appropriate process for the development of a new type heat exchanger. Sensible and latent heat transfer characteristics for each fin configuration is also provided along with the optimal fin configuration.
In this study, heat transfer and Pressure drop characteristics for R-718 in the plate and shell heat exchanger (P&SHE) investigated experimentally. The plates are circular and welded into a stack which fits into a cylindrical shell in P&SHE. Although apparently very different from rectangular the compact brazed plate heat exchanger (CBE), the underlying flow passage structure through the P&SHE is the same as in the CBE. The R-718 between plate side and shell side was performed a counterflow heat exchange. Heat transfer characteristic of R-718 were measured for turbulent flow in P&SHE by using wilson plot technique. Heat transfer experiment Ivas performed in the $200{\leq}Re{\leq}500$ regime and Pressure drop experiment was performed in the $150{\leq}Re{\leq}1600$ regime. The purpose of this study is to investigate heat transfer and friction factor correlations for R-718 in P&SHE and to offer fundamental data for experiment
In this paper, 2-D experiment and steady-state computational fluid analysis were conducted for measuring the hear transfer coefficient of pintle type controllable thruster in high pressure and temperature. In case of 2-D experiment, transient liquid crystal technique was used for measuring heat transfer coefficient for the 2-D pintle model. The experimental result was used to validate the CFD result. The CFD results well predicted the heat transfer coefficient on the pintle surface except the nozzle downstream region, where the results by CFD was higher than experimental results. The CFD results were also compared with the result by Bartz equation and the it was shown that the Bartz equation overestimated the heat transfer coefficient on the nozzle throat as much as 80%.
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a circular finned-tube heat exchanger. The nineteen cases of configuration varying fin material, fin outer diameter and fin pitch were tested by means of the experiment and the numerical calculation. The measured heat transfer data for the circular finned-tube heat exchanger were provided. A transition of heat transfer was found in the case of low fin pitch. The thermal conductivity of fin affected on the pure heat transfer coefficient.
The object of this experiment is comparing heat transfer performance and pressure drop characteristics by baffle cut rate, fluid velocity and heating temperature. Experiments were carried out in cross flow heat exchanger with water as a working fluid. In this experiment, baffle cut rate is 30%, 40%, 50%, velocity is 0.5m/s, 1.0m/s, 1.5m/s, and heating temperature is $30^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$. An experimental device to measure the heat transfer coefficient was constructed. The experimental result were obtained for the fully developed turbulent flow of water in tube on the condition of uniform heat flux.
The experiment of thermal performance about closed-wet cooling tower was conducted in this study. A closed cooling tower is a device similar to a general cooling tower, but with cooling tower replaced by a heat exchanger. The test section for this experiment has the process that the cooling water flows from the top of the heat exchanger to the bottom side in the inner part of the tube, and spray water flows in the gravitational direction in the outer side. Air comes in direct contact with the spray water at the outer side of the tube while passing from the lower the upper part having a counterflow to the spray water. The heat transfer pipe used in this experiment is a bare-type tube having an outer diameter of 15.88mm. The heat exchanger is consisted of seven rows and fifteen columns. In this experiment, thermal performance of the cooling tower is derived from overall heat transfer coefficients between the process fluid and sprayed water and volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient between sprayed water and air.
In this work, direct contact 4-stage fluidized bed heat exchanger is experimentally studied to develop a new type of heat exchanger which recovers the energy contained in the high temperature waste gas exhausted from the industrial furnaces. A sand is used as a heat transfer medium in this experiment. To determine the optimum operating condition, 11 different perforated plates which have a different free area ratio with different hole diameter are used in the experiment. From the room temperature experiment, the pressure drop which is caused by fluidized bed formation is observed. The high temperature experiment is carried out to seek the optimum operating condition of high heat efficiency at low heat exchanger operation cost. The results of experiment are as following. The pressure drop in the high temperature condition can be predicted from the results of the room temperature experiment. And Nusselt number becomes smaller due to the increased interference between sand particles as Reynolds number increases when the dilute phase fluidized beds are formed in nigh temperature condition. But heat transfer amount through the total sand surface area become larger due to the large resident amount of sand. Considering the heat transfer amount and the heat exchanger operation cost, perforated plates which have either a 30% or 35% of free area ratio with 15mm of hole diameter are best fitted for our goal of this work. The values of .phi. which is a dimensionless number representing the absorption heat amount per unit sand rate are in the range from 0.4 to 0.5, when Reynolds number of waste gas ranges from 25-30 with these perforated plates.
The fully developed turbulent momentum and heat transfer induced by the square-ribbed roughness elements on both the inner and outer wall surfaces in concentric annuli are studied analytically based on a modified turbulence model. The analytical results of the fuid flow are verified by experiment. The experiment is done with a pitot tube and a X-type hot wire anemometer to measure the time mean velocity profiles, zero shear stress positions, maximum velocity positions and friction factors, and etc. shown in Fig.1. The resulting momentum and heat transfer are discussed in terms of various parameters, such as the radius ratio, the relative roughness, the roughness density, Reynolds number, Nusselt bumber and Prand시 number. The study demonstrates that certain artificial roughness elements may be used to enhance heat transfer rates with advantage from the overall efficiency point of view by investigating turbulent flows and heat transfer in Fig.1.

The fully developed tubulent momentum and heat transfer induced by the square- ribbed roughness elements on both the inner and outer wall surfaces in the concentric annuli are studied analytically based on a modified turbulence model. Heat transfer coefficients for two conditions, i.e, a) inner wall heated as constant heat flux and outer wall insulated b) inner wall insulated and outer wall heated as constant heat flux, are investigated. The analytical results of the fluid flow are verified by experiment. The experiment is done with a pitot tube and a X-type hot wire anemometer to measure the time mean velocity profiles, zero shear stress positions, maximum velocity profiles and friction factors, and etc. The resulting momentum and heat transfer are discussed in terms of various parameters, such as the radius ratio, the relative roughness, the roughness density, Nusselt number and Prandtl number.
In order to investigate the variation on a heat transfer coefficient during evaporation of $CO_2$, basic experiment on the evaporation heat transfer characteristics in a horizontal micro-channel tube was performed. Hydraulic diameters of micro-channels were 0.68 and 1.46 mm. The experiment apparatus consisted of a test section, a DC power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. Experiments were conducted for various mass fluxes of 300 to 800 kg/$m^2s$, heat fluxes of 10 to 40 kW/$m^2$ and saturation temperatures of -5 to 5$^{\circ}C$. With the increase heat flux, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increased. And the significantly change of the heat transfer coefficient was observed at any heat flux and mass flux. As the saturation temperature increased and the hydraulic diameter decreased, the heat transfer coefficient increased.
