A double-inlet pulse tube refrigerator was fabricated as a U-shape with $\Phi$19.0 mm${\times}$125 mm regenerator packed by #200 stainless steel mesh and $\Phi$12.7 mm${\times}$125 mm pulse tube. A pressure sensor was installed at the inlet of the regenerator and a differential pressure sensor was installed across the bypass. Amplitude of the pulsating pressure was independent of the opening of the orifice and the bypass valves. Helium flow through the orifice and the bypass was calculated based on the measured pressure. Energy loss through the orifice and the bypass was evaluated with the measured pressure and the calculated helium flow rate. The energy loss, which is equivalent to the refrigeration capacity at the cold end of the ideal pulse tube refrigerator, was mainly generated through the orifice. It was proportional to the opening of the orifice valve, but the real refrigerator displayed the best performance at the optimized opening of the orifice valve. This optimized performance of the tested pulse tube refrigerator can be explained by additional refrigeration losses. As an example, the shuttle heat transfer loss of the pulse tube was calculated from the measured experimental data.
In the end of 2014, Changwon National University and TECHSTEEL Co., Ltd. had initiated a project on the development of a 300 kW-class HTS DC Induction Furnace(HTS DC IF) for preheating non-ferrous metal billets funded by the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning for 3 years. This is the one of the most realistic commercial machines applying the coated conductors. In this paper, the development progress of a 300 kW-class HTS DC IF was introduced. The major characteristics of the furnace including its capacity, structure and operation scheme were presented. For ensuring the successful design, a pre-validation study was performed through the electromagnetic, heat transfer and solid mechanical analysis using a multi-physics FEM tool. The aluminum billet was heated up to $540^{\circ}C$ under 1 T of the magnetic flux density at the center of the billet, and the simulation results were described in detail.

The battery electrode of a mobile phone is made of layered polymer coated on aluminum foils and the hot rolling process is applied to increase the density per volume of an electrode for a high capacity battery. The flatness of batteries surfaces should be less than $2{\mu}m$. To satisfy the required flatness, the deformation of roll surface due to bending and heating of the roll should be minimized. Complicated hot oil paths of $100^{\circ}C$ inside the roll are required for heating the polymer layers. FEA was used to calculate thermal deformations and temperatures distributions of the roller. Based on FEA, a modified surface curvature called a crown roll was suggested and this gave the area of 30% improved flatness compared with a flat roll. The flat roll satisfied the flatness of $2{\mu}m$ in the length of 340 mm and the crown roll resulted in the longer length of 460 mm. Experiments to measure the temperature distribution and thermal strain were performed and compared with FEA. There were only 6% difference between two results.

The objective of this study is to provide numerical and experimental data that can be used to investigate the performance characteristics of a flat plate fin-tube evaporator in household and commercial refrigerators under frosting conditions. Computer simulations with variations of operating conditions such as air inlet temperature, relative humidity, and geometries were performed to find out optimal design parameters of a fin-tube evaporator for household and commercial refrigerators. The tube-by-tube method was used in the simulation and the frost growth model was considered under frosting conditions. The developed analytical model predicted the decreasing rates of heat transfer capacity and air flow rate ratio within ${\pm}$10% compared to the experimental results for a refrigerator under real operating conditions. As a result, the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 80% is increased 40% than that of $-3^{\circ}C$ & 80%, and the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 90% is increased 30% than that of $3^{\circ}C$ & 60%. Accordingly, the operating time of the evaporator in the refrigerator was reduced with the increase of the decreasing rate of air flow rate ratio at each condition.

With the increasing reliability of analysis schemes and the dramatically increased calculating speed, the computer simulation has become and indispensable process to predict the interruption capacity of circuit breakers. Generally, circuit breakers have to possess both the small current and large current interruption abilities and the circuit breaker designers need to evaluate its capacities to save the time and the expense. The analysis of small current and the large current interruption performances have been considered separately because the phenomena occurring in a interrupter are quite different. To analyze the dielectric recovery after large current interruption many physical phenomena such as heat transfer, convection and arc radiation, the nozzle ablation, the ionization of high temperature SF(sub)6 gas, the electric and themagnetic forces and so forth mush be considered. However, in the analysis of small current interruption performance only the cold gas flow analysis needs to be carried out because the capacitive current is to small that the influence from the current can be neglected. In this paper, an empirical equation which is obtained from a series of tests to estimate the dielectric recovery strength has been applied to a real circuit breaker. The results of analysis have been compared with the test results and the reliability has been investigated.

Ice accumulating system patterned ice-an-coil is the way of refrigerating regenerative materials on the surface of copper-tube inserted into the inside of ice-storage. The study experimented to understand ice-an-coil type ice making characteristics according to changing shape of ice making tube. The experiment were carried out under various conditions, that used brine temperature($-l0^{\circ}C$, $-6^{\circ}C$) brine flow rate(l.0m/s, 1.8m/s) and inlet water temperature($6^{\circ}C$, $12^{\circ}C$) etc. Mass of ice per making area increased according to the decrease of the brine temperature and inlet water temperature, but that was increased according to the increase of the brine flow rate. And I set up two hypotheses and compared the capacity of ice-making of the two cases; each had the same thermal area and one had an round-shaped copper tube but the other had an oval-shaped copper tube.

Because of improvement of living standards and increased use of ice at home, built-in ice makers are of interest. In this study, refrigeration cycle of a unitary ice maker for residential usage was optimized using R-404A. Optimization was achieved through a search for proper refrigerant charge amount. For the present ice maker producing ice for 24 cups, the optimum charge amount was 200 g. In this configuration, the ice making cycle time was 17 minutes 53 seconds, ice production was 1.27 kg/h and COP was 0.310. After initial start-up, condensation and evaporation temperatures gradually decreased with time. As ice builds in the cup, heat transfer performance of the evaporator decreases, that results in decrease of evaporation and condensation temperatures. Replacement of existing slit nozzles with individual circular hole nozzles improved ice production capacity by 10 percent. Through visualization of ice formation in the ice cup, growth rate of the ice in the cup was relatively uniform.
Aim of this study was to obtain the heating performance and the economic evaluation on solar heating system for greenhouse which area of floor was $90m^2$. For heating performance effective solar energy for the greenhouse was compared with overall heating loads including coefficient of heat transfer and conduction. And the economic evaluation solar heating system was evaluated by comparison its initial investiment costing with oil saving cost. Initial investiment costing included collector cost, storage cost, piping cost, control system cost and miscellaneous costs which included pumps, motors etc. The contents of this study included the survey of climate conditions for solar heating, long-term collector performance and optimum collector area of solar heating system in existing greenhouse. The results are follows: 1. Average horizontal radiation during winter was $2,434Kcal/m^2$ day which was the highest value in this country, so the climate conditions of Suwon was suitable for solar heating. 2. Resulting calculation of the optimum collector area was $30m^2$ and the solar energy accounted for 30% of the overall heating load. 3. The capacity of storage tank required 60 liter per unit area ($m^2$) of solar collector.

This paper is concerned with the development of a new method for making and separating ice and saving floated ice by installing an evaporation plate at in-water within a storage tank. In a conventional harvest-type ice storage system, a tank saves ice by separating a formed ice from an installed evaporation plate, which is located above an ice storage tank as an ice storage system. A new harvest-type method shows very good heat transfer efficiency than a convectional method. It is because the evaporation panel is directly contacted with water in a storage tank. Also, at a conventional system a circulating pump, a circulating water distributor and a piping are installed, but these components are not necessary in a new method. In this study two kinds of ice storage systems are experimentally investigated to study the thermal characteristics of ice storage tanks. The results showed discharge of cold capacity of new type indicated the high values about 30~40% based on five time of drive, the temperature difference of inlet/outlet occurred the big range about $1.3^{\circ}C$. So, the new type which makes ice in water showed superiorly.

Simulation studies on catalytic methanation reaction in externally cooled tubular reactor filled with monolithic catalysts were carried out using a general purpose modelling tool $gPROMS^{(R)}$. We investigated the effects of operating parameters such as gas space velocity, temperature and pressure of feeding gas on temperature distribution inside the reactor, overall CO conversion, and chemical composition of product gas. In general, performance of methanation reaction is favored under low temperature and high pressure for a wide range of their values. However, methane production becomes negligible at temperatures below 573K when the reactor temperature is not high enough to ignite methanation reaction. Capacity enhancement of the reactor by increasing gas space velocity and/or gas inlet pressure resulted no significant reduction in reactor performance and heat transfer property of catalyst.
