Experiments are performed to investigate the single-phase flow heat transfer augmentation of MWCNT/HT-B Oil in both smooth and micro-fin helical tubes with constant wall temperature. The tests in laminar regime were carried out in helical tubes with three curvature ratios of 2R/d=22.1, 26.3 and 30.4. Flow Reynolds number varied from 170 to 1800 resulting in laminar flow regime. The effect of some parameters such as the nanoparticles concentration, the dimensionless curvature radius (2R/d) and the Reynolds number on heat transfer was investigated for the laminar flow regime. The weight fraction of nanoparticles in base fluid was less than 0.4%. Within the applied range of Reynolds number, results indicated that for smooth helical tube the addition of nanoparticles to the base fluid enhanced heat transfer remarkably. However, compared to the smooth helical tube, the average heat transfer augmentation ratio for finned tube was small and about 17%. Also, by increasing the weight fraction of nanoparticles in micro-fin helical tubes, no substantial changes were observed in the rate of heat transfer enhancement.
An experimental study of the heat transfer characteristics between circular water jet and cylindrical inner surface is presented. The ratios of the semi-cylinder's inner diameter and the nozzle outlet diameter were varied parametrically, as were the Reynolds number and the supplementary water heights. The measurements showed that cirucmferential distribution of the heat transfer coefficient peaked at the stagnation point and, there occurred a kind of a secondary maximum of heat transfer that moved toward to stagnation point as the ratio d/D increased. The local heat transfer coefficient increases as the Reynolds number becomes larger, and the rate of increase is subjected to the influence of d/D & position of angle. Also, optimum heights of supplementary water which brings about the augmentation of heat transfer are S/D=1 for the stagnation point, the position of $15^{\circ}$ & $30^{\circ}$ angle, but for the positions of $45^{\circ}$ angle (d/D=10~11.67), $60^{\circ}$ & $75^{\circ}$ angle, the heat transfer coefficients in the case of using supplementary water are smaller than simple jet (S/D=0).

The present study investigates on the experimental and numerical results of heat transfer in the acoustic fields induced by ultrasonic waves. The strong upwards flow which moves from the bottom surface in a cavity to the free surface called as "acoustic streaming" was visualized by a particle image velocimetry (PIV). In addition, the augmentation ratio of heat transfer was experimentally investigated in the presence of acoustic streaming and was compared with the profiles of acoustic pressure calculated by the numerical analysis. A coupled finite element-boundary element method (FE-BEM) was applied for a numerical analysis. The results of experimental and numerical studies clearly show that acoustic pressure variations caused by ultrasonic waves in a medium are closely related to the augmentation of heat transfer.

The present study numerically simulates the flow and heat transfer characteristics of rib-induced secondary flow in a square cooling channel with staggered V-shaped ribs, extruded on both walls. The rib pitch-to-height ratio (p/h) varies from 2.8 to 10 with the rib-height-to-hydraulic diameter ration (h/$D_h$)of 0.07 and the Reynolds number of 50,000. Shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model is used as a turbulence model. Computational results show that complex secondary flow patterns are generated in the channel due to the snaking flow in the streamwise direction for all tested cases. In the range of p/h=5 to 10 the staggered V-shaped rib gives about 3 times higher heat transfer augmentation than the reference smooth pipe with high heat transfer on both front side and the area around the leading edge of the ribs, while the former cases give about 18 times higher streamwise pressure drop than the latter ones. However, for the thermal performances, based on the equal pumping power condition, the case of p/h=2.8 gives the best result among three cases, mainly due to relatively low streamwise pressure drop, although it gives relatively low heat transfer augmentation.
Local heat/mass transfer and friction loss in a square duct roughened with various types of continuous and discrete rib turbulators are investigated. The combined effects of the gap flows of the discrete ribs and the secondary flows are examined for the purpose of the reduction of thermally weak regions and the promotion of the uniformity of heat/mass transfer distributions as well as the augmentation of average heat/mass transfer. The rib-to-rib pitch to the rib height ratio (p/e) of 8 and the rib angles of 90 and 60 deg are selected with $e/D_{h}=0.08$. The vortical structure of the secondary flows induced by the parallel angled arrays are quite distinct from that induced by the cross angled arrays. This distinction influences on heat/mass transfer and friction loss in all the tested cases. The gap flows of the discrete ribs reduce the strength of the secondary flows but promote local turbulence and flow mixing. As a result, the fairly uniform heat/mass transfer distributions are obtained with two row gaps.
The influence of arrangement and length of discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer and friction loss is investigated. Mass transfer experiments are conducted to obtain the detailed local heat/mass transfer information on the ribbed wall. The aspect ratio (width/height) of the duct is 2.04 and the rib height is one tenth of the duct height, such that the ratio of the rib height to hydraulic diameter is 0.0743. The ratio of rib-to-rib distance to rib height is 10. The discrete ribs were made by dividing each continuous rib into 2, 3 or 5 pieces and attached periodically to the top and the bottom walls of the duct with a parallel orientation The combined effects of rib angle and length of the discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer ae considered for the rib angles $({\alpha})\;of\;90^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$. As the number of the discrete ribs increases, the uniformity of the heat/mass transfer distributions increases. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the heat/mass transfer enhancement with the discrete ribs is remarkable, while the heat/mass transfer performances are slightly higher than that of the transverse continuous ribs due to the accompanied high friction loss penalty. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the average heat/mass transfer coefficients and the heat/mass transfer performances decrease slightly with the discrete ribs compared to the case of the angled continuous ribs.
This computational study examines the augmentation of classic 2-D Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ convection by the addition of periodically-spaced transverse fins. The fins are attached to the heated base of the cavity and serve to partition the cavity into 'units' with different aspect ratios. The respective impacts upon heat transfer of the fin configuration parameters - including spacing, height, thickness and thermal conductivity - are systematically examined through numerical simulations for a range of laminar Rayleigh numbers (0 < Ra < $2{\times}10^5$) and reported in terms of an average Nusselt number. The selection of the low Rayleigh number regime is linked to likely scenarios within aerospace applications (e.g. avionics cooling) where the cavity length scale and/or gravitational acceleration is small. The net heat transfer augmentation is found to result from a combination of competing fin effects, most of which are hydrodynamic in nature. Heat transfer enhancement of up to $1.2{\times}$ that for a Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ cavity without fins was found to occur under favorable fin configurations. Such configurations are generally characterized by short, thin fins with half-spacings somewhat less than the convection cell diameter from classic Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ theory. In contrast, for unfavorable configurations, it is found that the introduction of fins can result in a significant reduction in the heat transfer performance.

Heat transfer augmentation in heat exchangers has received much attention in recent years, mainly due to energy efficiency and environmental considerations. Many active and Passive techniques are currently being employed in heat exchangers, with some inserts providing a cost-effective and efficient means of augmenting heat transfer. The Purpose of this paper is to determine the pressure loss and heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanger using static mixing technology. Experimental measurements were taken on two set-ups: a single tube heat exchanger and a shell-tube heat exchanger with two static mixing inserts. It was concluded that the static mixing inserts resulted in an increase in the pressure loss and heat transfer characteristics as can be expected.
