오일의 유량 변화와 오프셋 스트립 휜을 고려한 오일쿨러의 복합열전달 해석 (A NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE CONJUGATE HEAT TRANSFER OF AN OIL COOLER WITH OFFSET STRIP FINS FOR VARIOUS-FLOW RATES)

  • Conjugate heat transfer of an automotive oil cooler with offset-strip fins was numerically investigated to predict the performance of the oil cooler for various flow-rates. The simulations were conducted by directly modeling offset-strip fins with unstructured meshes. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with energy equation were used for the present simulations. Heat transfer characteristics of the oil cooler was compared well with experimental results and the errors were approximately within 5 percents. It was found that the performance of the oil cooler increased as the flow-rate increased up to the flow-rate of 12 L/min, but the performance seemed to be saturated beyond a critical flow-rate, which was estimated as 15 L/min. Furthermore, it was confirmed that compared to the performance without fins, that of the oil cooler with offset-strip fins was increased by about 75 percents.

  • This study carried out a numerical analysis of the effects of hot waste water supply on the performance of a Type II absorption heat pump. There are two types of hot waste water supply, regular series flow and reverse series flow. Also it investigated the interaction between each type of flow and heat exchange solutions. As the effectiveness of heat exchange solutions increase, the steam generation and (COP) increase as well. If the effectiveness of a heat exchange solution is lower than 0.566, the steam generation rate of the reverse flow is lower than that of the regular series flow. A high effectiveness of heat exchange solution is therefore required to make a larger amount of steam in reverse series flow than with ordinary series flow. The COP difference between the two types of flow decreases with the increasing effectiveness of the heat exchange solution. Thus, a reverse flow type absorption heat pump can match the high steam generation rate and COP of the ordinary flow type when a highly effective heat exchange solution is applied.

  • The experimental study for an operational characteristics and performance of the sodium heat pipe were carried out. For an experiment. the heat pipe which is 1000mm length and 25.4mm diameter of stainless steel container with 50 mesh of screen wick using sodium as a working fluid is manufactured and tested as functions of heat flow rate, inclined angle and operating temperature. The test results are as follows. During the start-up. frontal start up was observed because of the vapor density increasing as increased the hot zone. Also, the heat pipe showed uniform temperature over than $420^{\circ}C$ of the operating temperature. The average heat transfer coefficient increased as the heat flux and the vapor temperature increase, and the range of the total thermal resistance was 0.075-0.04 $^{\circ}C/W$ at the 12-53.55 $kW/m^2$ of heat flux and $500-750^{\circ}C$of operating temperature. The maximum heat flow rate was 750W at the 10 degree of top heating mode.

열펌프의 성능 최적화에 관한 연구 (Optimization of Heat Pump Systems)

  • An expansion device plays an important role in optimizing the heat pumps by controlling refrigerant flow and balancing the system pressures. Conventional expansion devices are being gradually replaced with electronic expansion valves due to increasing focus on comfort, energy conservation, and application of a variable speed compressor. In addition, the amount of refrigerant charge in a heat pump is another primary parameter influencing system performance. In this study, the flow characteristics of the expansion devices are analyzed, and the effects of refrigerant charge amount on the performance of the heat pump and the variation of compressor speed are investigated at various operating conditions. Mass flow rate through capillary tube, short tube orifice, and EEV was strongly dependent on the upstream pressure and subcooling. The heat pump system is very sensitive with a variation of refrigerant charge amount. The performance of it can be optimized by adjusting the flow rate through expansion device to maintain a constant superheat at all test conditions.

원관내 맥동유동의 열전달에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Heat Transfer in the Pulsating Pipe Flow)

  • An experimental result for heat transfer of pulsating turbulent pipe flow was presented under the condition of fully developed dynamic regime and uniform wall heat flux. Experiments were performed at following conditions ; Inlet time-averaged Reynolds number varied from 5000 to 11000; The peak pressure fluctuation were 1.3, 2.3 and 3.5 percent of the mean pressure; Pulsating frequency ranged from 53 Hz to 320 Hz The measurements showed that the effect of pulsation on local heat transfer is greater at downstream, in which pulsating source exists, than upstream and the heat transfer rate, averaged over the pipe length, was higher or lower than in an equivalent non-pulsating flow according to the pulsating conditions. In addition, the significant change of heat transfer rate was observed in acoustically resonant conditions, when the pulsating frequency of the flow corresponded to the pipe natural frequency.

  • In this study, the prediction method of coolant flow rates has been developed and applied to an engine and vehicle cooling system. The flow rate passing through each component of the system is very important parameter to evaluate the heat transfer process form the combustion gas to the coolant and the heat rejection process form the radiator /heater to the ambient air. However, the present study reveals that the measurement using the flowmeter fails to give practical flow rates due to its additive resistance. In contrast, the present method which uses the parallel and serial relationship of flow resistance proved to be a good tool to predict the real flow rates. It can be also used to design the cooling system in the incipient stage of engine/vehicle development . The procedure was coded to the computer program so as to use it flexibly and, in the future, to expand it into an independent design tool of the whole cooling system including the heat release and rejection.

  • The new shape of louver-fin has been applied to a parallel flow condenser to enhance air-side heat transfer rate lot an automotive air-conditioner R- l34a is employed as a refrigerant inside the flat tube of the condenser, This problem is of particular interest in reducing the geometric size of the automotive air conditioner The effect of air flow rate on pressure drop as well as heat transfer in air side are studied in detail. Comparison of the performance is also made with that of a conventional parallel flow condenser, which is available in the market. The results obtained indicate that the total pressure drop through the pre sent condenser is not changed, while the heat transfer rate is increased by 24% at high veto city of air flow, compared with those of the conventional condenser. The parallel flow condenser with a new shape of louver-fin could be reduced in size by 20% for the equivalent condenser capacity, compared with the conventional parallel flow condenser.

  • This paper reports an experimental study on the performance evaluation of air-to-air heat exchanger with rotary type newly developed in this study. Air flow rate is varied from 10 to 120 m3/h. The range of RPM of the porous rotating discs mounted inside the heat exchanger unit is 0 to 50. The temperature of the return air side is set by adjusting heat supply at heater. The material of the porous rotating discs is cooper and its thickness is 1.0 mm. The heat transfer rate increased with the increase in air flow rate. It was found that the heat transfer rate, as the temperature of the return air side was increased, was improved due to higher temperature difference. The heat exchange performance increased with the increase in the temperature of the return air side at the conditions of the same RPM. The sensible heat exchange efficiency was maximum 68 to 76 percent, and enthalpy exchange efficiency 64 to 74 percent.

  • An experimental study of jet impingement on the surface with linear temperature gradient is conducted with the presentation of the turbulent characteristics and the heat transfer rates measured when this jet impinges normally to a flat plate. The jet Reynolds number ranges from 30,000 to 90,000, the temperature gradient of the plate is 2~$4.2^{\circ}C$/cm and the dimensionless nozzle to plate distance(H/D) is from 6 to 10. The results show that the peak of heat transfer rate occurs at the stagnation point, and the heat transfer rate decreases as the radial distance from the stagnation point increases. A remarkable feature of the heat transfer rate is the existence of the second peak. This is due to the turbulent development of the wall jet. Maximum heat transfer rate occurs when the axial distance from the nozzle to nozzle diameter(H/D) is 8. The heat transfer rate can be correlated as a power function of Prandtl number, Reynolds number and the dimensionless nozzle to plate distance(H/D). It has been found that the heat transfer rate increases with increasing turbulent intensity.

  • In order to study the heat transfer and pressure drop of an internal heat exchanger for $CO_2$ heat pump under cooling condition, the experiment and numerical analysis were performed. Four kinds of internal heat exchangers with a coaxial tube type and a micro-channel tube type were used. The experimental apparatus consisted of a test section, a power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. The section-by-section method and Hardy-Cross method were used for the numerical analysis. The effects of the internal heat exchanger refrigerant flow rate, the length of the internal heat exchanger, the operating condition of the gas-cooler, the evaporator and the type of the internal heat exchangers were investigated. With increasing of the flow rate, the heat transfer rate increased about 25%. The heat transfer rate of the micro-channel tube type was higher about 100% than that of the coaxial tube type. With increasing of the length of the internal heat exchanger, the heat transfer rate increased about $20{\sim}50%$. The pressure drop of the low-side tube was larger compared with that of the high-side tube.
