  • The physicochemical and sensory characteristics of brown rice flakes by different processing conditions such as flaking Process and their heat treatments were investigated to establish the brown rice flake processing procedure. To successfully make the compressed rice grain type flakes, the most appropriate water steeping conditions were 5 hours at 60'C. The brown rice flakes by compressed flaking procedure and heat treatment with microwave toasting showed the best crispiness-texture that tested from textrometer or sensory evaluation, and there was no significant difference between the source of rice varieties. The water absorption index(WAI) of tested flakes were negatively correlated with the water soluble index( WSI) and positively correlated with bowl life. The flakes made by compressed flaking procedure and heat treatment with microwave toasting showed longer bowl life, which is the length of the time that the cereal can retain its crispness after being soaked in milk.

  • In this paper, we prepared the samples with the heat-treated substrate by means of co-evaporation method. The samples prepared with heat-treated substrate of $500^{\circ}C$showed the vacancy on the surface, and it could be prevented by Se ambient condition. The samples prepared with variable heat-treated substrates such as $430^{\circ}C$, $460^{\circ}C$, $480^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$ showed the increase of grain resulted to the increase of the density. Based on the XRD analysis, the heat treatment could remove the Cu2Se phase of the samples, but it didn't affect the absorption index of the samples. We, therefore, conclude the absorption index is not affected by heat treatment and is controlled by the thickness of the sample.

  • This paper describes the degraded properties of between the charge and discharge current for ${\gamma}$-ray irradiated in electric power cable rubbers using in nuclear power generating station. The charge and discharge current of degradation in EPR(Ethylene Propylene Rubber), which were irradiated with the radiant capacity of 0.033 Mrad/h, have been measured in order to investigate the influence of the atmosphere(in amount of reinforcing agent, moisture absorption and heat treatment) on electrical properties. When ${\gamma}$-ray were irradiated on the EPR with more reinforcing agent from 4 to 40 Phr, charge and discharge currents was increase due to the amount of reinforcing agent. It was verified that the discharging and charging currents irradiated by ${\gamma}$-ray were higher than those that was not irradiated. The amount of the degraded current was more after moisture absorption than before moisture absorption. The charge and discharge current after heat treatment was similar to that of before heat treatment and it was decreased with the time elapsed. As these properties related with ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation dose, it is suggested that these properties can be utilized as a index of irradiation degradation.

  • Experiments were carried out to study the operation characteristics of a regenerator with a thermo-syphon pump and a surface-flame burner for a lithium bromide (LiBr)-water absorption heat pump. A cylindrical-shape metal-fiber burner and commercial grade propane were used. The emission of carbon monoxide and nitric oxide was measured by a combustion gas analyzer. Ther regeneration rate of water vapor as a refrigerant was measured. It could be as a reference value showing the performance of the regenerator. The circulation rate of the LiBr-water solution was also measured from both the tanks for the weak-and the strong-solution. Using a refractometer, the LiBr concetration in the solution was calculated from the measured refractory index of the solution. Temperature of the solution and the condensed water was recorded at several points in the experimental apparatus with thermocouples, using a personal computer. This data collecting system for measuring temperature was calibrated with a set of standard thermometers. The generating rate of water vapor as refrigerant increased linearly with heat supplied. It was about 4.0g/s with the heat supplied at a rate of 16,500kcal/h. The circulation rate of LiBr solution also increases with the heat supplied. The difference in LiBr concentrations between the weak and the strong solution was in the range of 1 to 5% when the concentration of the strong solution was about 60%. It was dependent upon both the heat supplied and the circulation rate of the solution. The initial concentration and the level of the LiBr solution in the regenerator were measured and recorded before experiments. The effect of them on the generating rate of water vapor and the circulation rate of the solution was also studied. The generating rate of water vapor was not strongly dependent upon both the level of the LiBr solution and the initial LiBr concentration. However, the concentration difference of the solution increases with the initial level of the LiBr solution.

  • As important factors determining human sensorial comfort, liquid moisture management and surface properties of heat resistant workwear materials were examined. To figure out liquid moisture management properties of the test materials, absorption capacity, rate of absorption, and evaporation properties were assessed. A modified GATS(Gravimetric Absorbency Testing System) was used to measure the liquid moisture accumulation associated with the wicking of liquid moisture from sweating skin. The GATS procedure measures demand wettability of materials to take up liquid in a direction perpendicular to the fabric surface and it was modified to incorporate a special test cell and cover to assess absorption behavior in the presence of evaporation. Fabric stiffness, smoothness, number and the length of surface fibers, and an estimate of the contact area between the skin and fabric surface were measured to characterize the mechanical and surface properties of the test materials. Also an estimate of the force with which a fabric clings to moist skin was made using as wet-cling index.

  • Temperature was considered to estimate the minimum detectable absorption coefficient of aerosol particles from photothermal spectroscopy. Light energy absorbed by subsequent emission from the aerosol results in the heating of the aerosol sample and consequently causes a temperature change as well as changes in thermodynamic parameters of the sample. This thermal effect is the basis of photothermal spectroscopy. Photothermal spectroscopy has several types of techniques depending on how the photothermal effects are detected. Photothermal interferometry traces the photothermal effect, refractive index, using an interferometer. Photoacoustic spectroscopy detects the photothermal effect, sound wave, using a microphone. In this study, it is suggested that the detection limit for photothermal spectroscopy can be influenced by the introduction of a slip correction factor when the light absorption is determined in a high temperature environment. The minimum detectable absorption coefficient depends on the density, the specific heat and the temperature, which are thermodynamic properties. Without considering the slip correction, when the temperature of the environment is 400 K, the minimum detectable absorption coefficient for photothermal interferometry increases approximately 0.3% compared to the case of 300 K. The minimum detectable absorption coefficient for photoacoustic spectroscopy decreases only 0.2% compared to the case of 300 K. Photothermal interferometry differs only 0.5% point from photoacoustic spectroscopy. Thus, it is believed that photothermal interferometry is reliably comparable to photoacoustic spectroscopy under 400 K.

  • Novel photochromic oxide glasses are presented in this section. These glasses are based on phosphate formers containing both tungsten and antimony atoms. Exposure to visible continuous or pulsed laser beam results in an intense photochromic effect witch is shown to occur in the volume of the glass and results in a broad absorption band in the visible and near infrared. This effect was not identified to be related with a structural change and is assumed to be entirely electronic. A change in the absorption coefficient is observed in function of tungsten content, exposure time and increases with beam power. These glasses have been investigated regarding the possibility of holographic data storage using visible lasers sources. Changes in both refractive index and the absorption coefficient were measured using a holographic setup. The modulation of the optical constants is reversible by heat treatment.

  • Glass films in the binary system B2O3-SiO2 and Al2O3-SiO2 were prepared on soda-lime-silica slide glass by the dip-coating technique from TEOS and boric acid or aluminum nitrate. Thickness of the films varying with viscosity and withdrawal speed were measured and effect of composition and firing temperature on the properties such as transmittance and refractive index were investigated. nM2O3.(100-n)SiO2(M=B or Al) films containing up to 20mol% B2O3 and 40mol% Al2O3 were transparent. Maximum transmittance at visible range were obtained for the sample containing 15mol% Ba2O3 and 32.5mol% Al2O3 and heat-treated at 50$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Refractive index of the film containing 15mol% B2O3 was mininum in the B2O3-SiO2 binary system and minimal refractive index was appeared at the film containing 32.5mol% Al2O3. In IP spectra, addition of B2O3 were increased absorption peak intensity of B-O and Si-O-B bond and addition of Al2O3 were decreased absorption peak intensity of Si-O bond, respectively.

  • U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient(SHGC) usually can be used as the index to evaluate the thermal performance. U-factor is a concept for heat loss by the temperature difference between inside and outside, so it's useful to be applied in heating season. But SHGC that indicates the fraction of heat from incident solar radiation that flows through a window by means of optical transmission, as well as absorption, re-radiation and convection is for cooling season. In other words, U-factor and SHGC of windows by cities have to be reflected to select the window of the energy conservation. The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy use impacts by SHGCs of windows for detached house in Inchon and Ulsan through energy simulation by eQUEST.
