  • In advanced nuclear reactors, the passive containment cooling has been suggested to enhance the safety. The passive cooling has two mechanisms, air natural convection and oater cooling with evaporation. To confirm the coolability of PCCS, many works have been performed experimentally and numerically. In this study, the water cooling test was performed to obtain the evaporative heat transfer coefficients in a scaled don segment type PCCS facility which have same configuration with AP600 prototype containment. Air-steam mixture temperature and velocity, relative humidity and well heat flux are measured. The local steam mass flow rates through the vertical plate part of the facility are calculated from the measured data to obtain evaporative heat transfer coefficients. The measured evaporative heat transfer coefficients are compared with an analytical model which use a mass transfer coefficients. From the comparison, the predicted coefficients show good agreement with experimental data however, some discrepancies exist when the effect of wave motion is not considered. Finally, a new correlation on evaporative heat transfer coefficients are developed using the experimental values.

  • Condensation heat transfer experiments for R-22 and R-407C refrigerants mixed with mineral oil and POE oil respectively were performed in straight and U-bend sections of a microfin tube. Experimental parameters were an oil concentration from 0 to 5%, a mass flux from 100 to $400 kg/m^2s$ and an inlet quality from 0.5 to 0.9. The enhancement factors for R-22 and R-407C refrigerants at the first straight section decreased continuously as the oil concentration increased. They decreased rapidly as the mass flux decreased and inlet quality increased. The heat transfer coefficients in the U-bend were the maximum at the $90^{\circ}$ position. The heat transfer coefficients at the second straight section within the dimensionless length of 48 were larger by a maximum of 33% than the average heat transfer coefficients at the first straight section.

  • The paper presents the heat transfer characteristics during cooling process of carbon dioxide($CO_2$) in a helically coiled tube. The main components of the apparatus consist of a receiver, a variable speed pump, a mass flowmeter, a pre-heater, a gas cooler(test section) and an isothermal tank. The test section with the inner diameter 4.55 [mm] is a tube in tube type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. The main results were summarized as follows : The heat transfer coefficient increases with respect to the decrease of the gas cooler pressure in a supercritical region and the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. The pressure drop decreases in increases of the gas cooler pressure and increases with respect to increases the refrigerant mass flux.

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of a tube row, a fin pitch and an inlet humidity on air-side heat and mass transfer performance of louvered fin-tube heat exchangers under wet conditions. Experimental conditions were varied by three fin pitches, two rows, two inlet relative humidities. Experimental results showed that the heat transfer performance decreased and the friction increased with the decrease of fin pitch, for 2 row heat exchanger. The effect of fin pitch on heat transfer performance was negligible with 3 row heat exchanger. The changes in relative humidity was not affected heat transfer and friction. However, the mass transfer performance was slightly decreased with the increase of relative humidity and with the decrease of fin pitch. The mass transfer performance of the louvered fin-tube heat exchanger decreased with the decrease of the fin pitch and was different according to the number of tube row.

  • In this study, evaporation heat transfer tests were conducted in flat aluminum multi-channel tubes using R-22. Two internal geometries were tested ; one with smooth inner surface and the other with micro-fins. Data are presented for the following range of variables ; vapor quality $(0.1{\sim}0.9)$, mass flux$(100{\sim}600kg/m^2s)$ and heat flux$(5{\sim}15kW/m^2)$. The micro-tin tube showed higher heat transfer coefficients compared with those of the smooth tube. Results showed that, for the smooth tube, the effects of mass flux, quality and heat flux were not prominent, and existing correlations overpredicted the data. For the micro-fin tube at low quality, the heat transfer coefficient increased as heat flux increased. However, the trend was reversed at high quality Kandlikar's correlation predicted the low mass flux data, and Shah's correlation predicted the high mass flux data. The heat transfer coefficient of the micro fin tube was approximately two times larger than that of the plain tube. New correlation was developed based on present data.

  • This paper performed experimental research in order to measure boiling heat transfer coefficient of water in microchannel with hydraulic diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Tests were conducted within the ranges of heat fluxes from 100 to 400 kW/$m^2$, vapor qualities from 0 to 0.2, and mass fluxes of 200, 400, and 600 kg/$m^2s$. From the experimental results, it was found that flow boiling heat transfer coefficient is not dependent on mass flux or vapor quality, but instead on heat flux to a certain degree. The measured data of heat transfer are compared to a few available correlations proposed for mini-channels. Among them, Sun and Mishima's correlation is found to predict the present data well, within the mean absolute error of 17.84%.

  • The present study investigates heat/mass transfer around film cooling jets and circular cylinders to compare the characteristics of each other. Experiments are conducted to obtain the detailed heat/mass transfer coefficients of flat plate with injections through an array of holes and for flows around an array of protruding circular cylinders using the naphthalene sublimation technique. The inclination angles of cylinders are set to the same ones of jets; a, the angle between the jet and the surface is fixed at 30 deg. through the whole experiments and .betha., the angle between the projection of the jet on the surface and the direction of main stream is adjusted to 0 deg., 45 deg. and 90 deg. to investigate the effect of variation of injection angles. The influence of blowing rates of jets and those of cylinder length to diameter ratios are also investigated. The results indicate that the increase of angle .betha. influences the spanwise uniformity of heat/mass transfer remarkably for both jets and cylinders, but that variation of cylinder length to diameter ratios has weaker effects on heat/mass transfer coefficients than that of blowing rates.

  • The present study has been conducted to investigate convective heat/mass transfer in the cooling passage with bleed holes. The rotating square channel has 40.0 mm hydraulic diameter and the bleed holes on the leading surface of the channel. The hole diameter of bleed hole is 4.5mm and its spacing is ( p/d:4.9) about five times of hole diameter. Exit mass flow rate through bleed holes is $0\%,\;10\%\;and\;20\%$ of the main mass flow rate respectively. rotation number is fixed 0.2. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The cooling performance is influenced by exit mass flow rate through bleed holes and Coriolis force of rotating channel for fixed Reynolds number. The heat transfer on the leading surface is decreased due to Coriolis force. However the total heat transfer is enhanced around holes on the leading surface because of trapping flow by bleeding.

  • Experimental results for heat transfer characteristics of natural refrigerants R-290, R-600a and HCFC refrigerant R-22 during evaporating inside horizontal double pipe heat exchangers are presented. The experimental apparatus is basically a vapour heat pump system, composed of a compressor, a condenser, expansion devices, a evaporator, and some other peripheral devices. The test sections were horizontal double pipe heat exchangers, which were a pair of smoothed tube, having 10.07 mm ID, 12.07 mm OD, and grooved inner fin tube, having 12.70 mm OD, 0.25 mm fin height, and 75 fins. The local evaporating heat transfer coefficients of natural refrigerants were not much affected with the mass velocity than R-22 and it could be interpreted that the local evaporating heat transfer coefficients of R-22 were increased more than those of R-290, R-600a according to the increment of mass velocity. Moreover, the maximum increment of the heat transfer coefficient was found in R-290. The average heat transfer coefficient was obtained the maximum value in R-290 and the minimum value in R-22. It reveals that the natural refrigerant can be used as a substitute for R-22. In the grooved inner fin tube, 70% of the increment of the heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the smoothed tube.

  • Experimental investigations on heat and mass transfer characteristics in a vertical tube absorber have been carried out. Three different copper tubes with a length of 1.5m have been tested using LiBr solution and LiBr-$CaCl_2$ solution. The effects of solution flow rate, cooling water temperature, solution inlet temperature and evaporation temperature have been investigated in detail. It is found that heat transfer coefficient increases gradually with the increase of solution flow rate, but decreases rapidly for the flow rates less than 0.02kg/ms. The grooved tube generally shows better heat transfer performances than the smooth tube. LiBr solution shows almost no absorption capability for the cooling water temperatures over $40^{\circ}C$. LiBr-$CaCl_2$ gives less decreasing rate in absorption capability at these temperatures and the heat transfer coefficient becomes less dependent on the types of tubes in use. Considering heat and mass transfer rates, LiBr-$CaCl_2$ solution is found to be more suitable than LiBr solution for air cooled absorber, which operates at higher temperature than water cooled absorber.
