The photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal is one of the mainly considered bio signals along with the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. PPG signals can be used to estimate the speed of flow of blood in vein, saturation of peripheral oxygen and etc. The heartbeat rate is a common feature in order to evaluate those checkup lists. To estimate the correct heartbeat rate, dynamic noises must be removed in the PPG signal. Conventionally, the acceleration signal is used to remove dynamic noises. This method, however, increases the computational complexity. In this paper, we proposes a solution that uses only PPG signals to calculate the heartbeat rate, and which can be used as a basement in real-time healthcare solution.

Among the various physiological information that could be obtained from human body, heartbeat rate is a commonly used vital sign in the clinical milieu. Photoplethysography (PPG) sensor is incorporated into many wearable healthcare devices because of its advantages such as simplicity of hardware structure and low-cost. However, healthcare device employing PPG sensor has been issued in susceptibility of light and motion artifact. In this paper, to develop the real-time heart rate measurement device that is less sensitive to the external noises, we have fabricated an ultra-small wireless LC resonant pressure sensor by MEMS process. After performance evaluation in linearity and repeatability of the MEMS pressure sensor, heartbeat waveform and rate on radial artery were obtained by using resonant frequency-pressure conversion method. The measured data using the proposed heartbeat rate measurement system was validated by comparing it with the data of an commercialized heart rate measurement device. Result of the proposed device was agreed well to that of the commercialized device. The obtained real time heartbeat wave and rate were displayed on personal mobile system by bluetooth communication.

Ultra Wideband (UWB) Radar is a high-resolution radar for short distance detection which uses signals transmitted and received by each antennas in order to detect a target. It is possible to detect the respiration and heartbeat of a person without contact It is getting more and more often utilized since it is not affected by physical environment. In this paper, we implement an algorithm to detect human respiration and heartbeat rate using UWB radar signal. We process radar signals reflected from human body using Median filter, Kalman filter, Band Pass filter and so on. We also use CZT to extract breathing and heart rate. ECG (Electrocardiogram) was used for comparison of heartbeat data and we confirm that each data of ECG and UWB Radar were more than 98% identical each other.

The personal activity information is expanding as a way to utilize wearable devices that are emerging as next generation smart devices. This paper develops an application for collecting heartbeat rate and location information of a user using SmartWatch, which is a smartphone and wearable device, and analyzing it through machine learning to infer user's emotion information. By using smart phone and smart watch, developed application can collect biometric data and location information by simply executing application and doing everyday life. In addition, adding the location information to the hearbit rate data, it proves higher utilization than existing ones.

Electrocardiogram(ECG) signal is one of the unique bio-signals of individuals and is used for personal authentication. The existing studies on personal authentication method using ECG signals show a high detection rate for a small group of candidates, but a low detection rate and increased execution time for a large group of candidates. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical algorithm that extracts fiducial points based on curvature of ECG signals as feature values for grouping candidates and identifies candidates using waveform-based comparisons. As a result of experiments on 74 ECG signal records of QT-DB provided by Physionet, the detection rate was about 97% at 3-heartbeat input and about 99% at 5-heartbeat input. The average execution time was 22.4 milliseconds. In conclusion, the proposed method improves the detection rate by the hierarchical personal authentication process, and also shows reduced amount of computation which is plausible in real-time personal authentication usage in the future.

It is known that blood circulation in human body causes the skin tone to change concurrently with heartbeats. A number of apps have been developed to measure the heartbeat using smartphone camera; however, no any further analysis is performed. In this paper we propose an algorithm that detects heartbeats from the phone's camera and further extracts the heart rate variability (HRV). We compare the HRV extracted from the camera with the HRV extracted from the electrocardiogram. We estimated a number of commonly used HRV characteristics and compared them. Our results show that smartphone camera leads to slightly overestimated characteristics although the difference in extracted HRV signals is negligible. As a consequence we suggest that a smartphone camera can be employed in a quick heart diagnosis and diagnosis of autonomic nervous system.
This paper proposes a CW(Continuous-Wave) bio-radar applying a new adaptive noise canceller based on ALE(Adaptive Line Enhancer) which can remove the Gaussian noise and system noise. Recently the research works on this CW bio-radar which can be used to detect heartbeat and respiration are advanced by the university and research facility. Although the researches describe CW bio-radar not only is vulnerable for the Gaussian noise but also has a disadvantage of decreasing the heart-rate accuracy due to the noise, the researches do not demonstrate the effective method for removing the noise component in a baseband signal. In this paper, a CW bio-radar applying the new adaptive noise canceller based on ALE which can remove the noise component is proposed. This paper compares and analyzes the performance for increasing the heart-rate accuracy according to removing the Gaussian noise and system noise in the baseband signal through the quadrature receiver which can alleviate the demodulation sensitivity to target position.

In this study, we have proposed a simple cardiorespiratory monitoring method based on displacements of human body which occurs due to periodic heartbeat and breathing. The proposed system consists of an aircushion, pressure sensing hardware and heartbeat and respiration signals extraction algorithm. The aircushion was used for unconstrained measurement of the respiration and heartbeats without a sensor attached on the subject's skin surface. The displacements of subject sitting on the aircushion cause small pressure variations. These variations are amplified and filtered with the pressure sensing hardware. Finally, heart rate and respiration rate are extracted by signal processing algorithm based on frequency domain filter. To evaluate the performance, extracted respiration and heart rate from proposed system were compared with conventional methods. The average sensitivity of respiration and heart rate are 98.67% and 99.24%, respectively. These results show the proposed method has advantages of installing and processing simplicity so as to be used easily in unconstrained respiration and heart rate monitoring in daily life.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a diagnostic test which records the electrical activity of the heart, shows abnormal rhythms and detects heart muscle damages. With this ECG signal, medical centers diagnose patients' heart disease symptoms. A normal resting heart rate for adults rages from 60 to 100 beats a minute. An irregular heartbeat is called "arrhythmia", and arrhythmia is also called "cardiac dysrhythmia". In an arrhythmia, the heartbeat maybe too slow(slower than 60beats), too rapid(faster than 100beats), too irregular, etc. Among these symptoms of arrhythmia, if the heart beat is slower than the normal range, the symptom is called "bradycardia", and if it is faster than the range, it is called "tachycardia" In this letters, we proposed the detection algorithm of cardiac arrhythmia in ECG signal using R-R interval through the detection of R-peak.

Recently, economic growth in the world has increased interest in healthy life, and the smart health care industry is growing. In the field of smart healthcare, wearable-type biometric information measurement technology has been highlighted due to the importance of IoT technology. The purpose of this study is to develop a wearable heart - rate monitoring system that can be applied to wearable health care and glove - type monitoring that enables convenient monitoring of heart rate during activity. For this purpose, a glove - type wearable health care system was developed and its performance was evaluated. Experimental results showed that the heartbeat monitoring was possible even in the presence of actual daily activities.
