  • Background: Accurate statistics on the cancer burden are essential, both for purposes of research and for setting priorities in healthcare management. So that in vast countries with partial registration coverage, such as Iran, local data are more useful. We here estimated the incidence, prevalence and mortality time trend of four major cancer site, lung, stomach, breast and prostate, over the period 2001-2010 and provided short-range projections to 2015 in Isfahan. Materials and Methods: Estimates were derived by applying the mortality-incidence analysis method, a back-calculation approach to estimate and project incidence, prevalence and mortality of chronic degenerative disease, starting from knowledge of mortality and relative survival information. Results: Age adjusted incidence, mortality and prevalence rates in Isfahan exhibited a clear upward trend for all four sites during the period 2001-2015, with marked increasees in prostate and breast predicted for the future. Difference in incidence trends between males and females might be attributable to the difference in risk factors specific to certain cancer sites, with smoking being the main risk factor. Conclusions: In this study, males and females displayed an increasing pattern for incidence and mortality rate over the entire study period until 2015. This information can be used as basis for planning healthcare management and allocating recourses in public health.

  • In recent years, mobile healthcare systems that transfer patient data wirelessly have been used in the medical field. However, the current messages supported to patients are difficult to satisfy the specific patients, and there is a lack of healthcare systems to help manage patients with diabetes or pregnant women on a regular basis. In this regard, this paper demonstrates that the semantic-web service to which data transfer method, application framework and networking of WPAN are applied can be implemented. In addition, it suggests common data types to integrate data from a variety of sources and provides a common framework in which information on the Web can be shared and reused in applications, businesses and communities, etc. As an example, the healthcare monitoring that can manage healthcare for pregnant women, which includes confirmation of pregnancy, periodic health management, fetal movement, prenatal care and health-related knowledge, is proposed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge structure of health information (HI) for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: Keywords or meaningful morphemes from HI presented on five health-related websites (HRWs) of one national HI institute and four hospitals, as well as HI needs among patients presented in nine literature, were reviewed, refined, and analyzed using text network analysis and their co-occurrence matrix was generated. Two networks of 61 and 35 keywords, respectively, were analyzed for degree, closeness, and betweenness centrality, as well as betweenness community analysis. Results: The most common keywords pertaining to HI on HRWs were lung, inhaler, smoking, dyspnea, and infection, focusing COPD treatment. In contrast, HI needs among patients were lung, medication, support, symptom, and smoking cessation, expanding to disease management. Two common sub-topic groups in HI on HRWs were COPD overview and medication administration, whereas three common sub-topic groups in HI needs among patients in the literature were COPD overview, self-management, and emotional management. Conclusion: The knowledge structure of HI on HRWs is medically oriented, while patients need supportive information. Thus, the support system for self-management and emotional management on HRWs must be informed according to the structure of patients' needs for HI. Healthcare providers should consider presenting COPD patient-centered information on HRWs.

  • In the conduct of this study, a web-enabled healthcare system for the management of hypertension was implemented through a hyperlink-based inference approach. The hyperlink-based inference platform was implemented using the hypertext capacity of HTML which ensured accessibility, multimedia facilities, fast response, stability, ease of use and upgrade, and platform independency of expert systems. Many HTML documents, which are hyperlinked to each other based on expert rules, were uploaded beforehand to perform the hyperlink-based inference. The HTML documents were uploaded and maintained automatically by our proprietary tool called the Web-Based Inference System (WeBIS) that supports a graphical user interface (GUI) for the input and edit of decision graphs. Nevertheless, the editing task of the decision graph using the GUI tool is a time consuming and tedious chore when the knowledge engineer must perform it manually. Accordingly, this research implemented an automatic generator of the decision graph for the management of hypertension. As a result, this research suggests a methodology for the development of Web-enabled healthcare systems using the hyperlink-based inference approach and, as an example, implements a Web-enabled healthcare system for hypertension, a platform which performed especially well in the areas of speed and stability.

  • In the current field of Medical Informatics, the information increases, and changes fast, so we can access the various data types which are ranged from text to image type. A small number of technician digitizes these data to establish database, but it is needed a lot of money and time. Therefore digitization by many end-users confronting data and establishment of searching database is needed to manage increasing information effectively. New data and information are taken fast to provide the quality of care, diagnosis which is the basic work in the medicine. And also It is needed the medical database for purpose of private study and novice education, which is tool to make various data become knowledge. However, current medical database is used and developed only for the purpose of hospital work management. In this study, using text input, file import and object images are digitized to establish database by people who are worked at the medicine field but can not expertise to program. Data are hierarchically constructed and then knowledge is established using a tree type database establishment method. Consequently, we can get data fast and exactly through search, apply it to study as subject-oriented classification, apply it to diagnosis as time-depended reflection of data, and apply it to education and precaution through function of publishing questions and reusability of data.
