Purpose: The first responder's role during a cardiac arrest scene is to initiate CPR. The AHA has recognized and included the first responder's role for improving the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients. Health personnel working in nursing, emergency care, dental hygiene, radiology, and ocular optics frequently confront sudden cardiac arrest while working. This study was to identify the relationship between the educational experience and recognition with the level of knowledge about CPR for college students. Method: Five hundred forty college students enrolled in the department of nursing science, radiological technology, ocular optics, emergency medical technician, or dental hygiene in Daejeon city were surveyed. The tool used was CPR knowledge developed by the authors based on a literature review including 2005 AHA's CPR guideline. Result: The higher educational experience of CPR was, the higher the level of knowledge. The knowledge of the students in nursing or emergency medical technician was higher than students in dental hygiene, radiology, and ocular optics. Conclusion: CPR class should be included in the curriculum for college students in order to improve their accuracy as a first responder to cardiac arresting patients.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate how one's motive to choose a major of study, career values, and satisfaction with the major affect immersion within the major. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire on choice of major and career values was completed by 224 students from March 2nd to March 15th of 2022. The collected data were analyzed using several metrics and tests with IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 software: frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and linear regression. Results: The average scores of the motive to choose a major, career values, satisfaction with the major, and immersion in the major were 3.15, 3.91, 3.56, and 3.45, respectively. There were significant correlations between all four variables (p<0.05). Career values and satisfaction with the major positively influenced a student's immersion in that major; the explanatory power of the model was 77% (p<0.01). Conclusion: The department should offer education on career values to further increase the immersion of dental technician students within their chosen major.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the impacts of vocational calling, emotional intelligence, and major commitment on nursing college students' happiness. This study also was conducted to explore major commitment's mediating effect on the relationship between vocational calling, emotional intelligence, and major commitment among nursing college students. Methods: Participants were 346 nursing college students. Data were collected in November, 2017 with self-report questionnaires and were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis with IBM SPSS 19.0. Results: The regression model explained 33.0% of variance in nursing college students' happiness (F=41.44, p<.001). Significant factors were emotional intelligence (${\beta}=.30$, p<.001), grade (${\beta}=.20$, p<.001), major commitment (${\beta}=.18$, p=.002), and vocational calling (${\beta}=.11$, p=.035). Moreover, major commitment showed partial mediating effects on vocational calling and happiness. Major commitment also showed partial mediating effects on emotional intelligence and happiness. Conclusion: The results suggest that nursing college students' happiness can be increased through strategies aimed at increasing vocational calling, emotional intelligence, and major commitment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify an attitude toward menstruation, perimenstrual symptoms, and coping used by female college students. Methods: A convenience sample of 151 students was obtained from two nursing colleges in Mokpo and Gwangju. Data were collected through questionnaires from June 15 to June 28, 2005. Three instruments were used in this study, the menstrual symptoms, menstrual attitude, and menstrual coping. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation using SPSS 10.0 program. Results: The results showed that most 3rd and 4th year students complained about discomfort during their perimenstrual period, had a negative attitude toward menstruation due to the discomfort, but coped well during the period even with a lot of discomfort. With this results, there is a need for a nursing mediator to provide relief for discomfort during perimenstrual period so college female students have a positive attitude toward menstruation. There is a need for further research to determine the relationship between other variables and discomfort during the perimenstrual period. It is also needed to investigate if there are differences in these variables studied according to ages and occupations in women. Conclusion: From these findings, problem solving strategies for menstrual symptoms, positive attitudes, and coping should be a comprehensive approach to a nursing intervention to help women.
Purpose: To investigate difference in health status by social classes in Korea through second analysis the 1999 Social Statistic Survey raw data performed by National Statistic Office. Method: 52,100 subjects were 20-64 years old and students were excluded. Health status was measured self-rated health and disease prevalence past 2 weeks. Social classes were classified 5 categories by occupations and working status and 1 category by unemployment. Result: Unemployed people reported the worst self-rated health on average, the lower social classes, the worse self-rated health and higher disease prevalence. Health inequality still existed between social classes after adjusting sex, age, and education level. Conclusion: A certain strategy for improving unemployed people's health and people who are working in craft, simple manual labor, agriculture, fishery, and forestry.

Purpose: This exploratory study aims to identify the influence of clinical practice belonging, satisfaction with major, and work values on the level of career identity among nursing students. Methods: The subjects of this study are 251 senior students from three nursing departments located in a metropolitan city. Using SPSS 22.0, the study uses technical statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The average scores for clinical practice belonging, satisfaction with major, and work values were 3.61, 3.87, and 3.70 out of 5.00, respectively, and 2.85 out of 4.00 for career identity. The factors affecting students' career identity were clinical practice belonging, aptitude, satisfaction with clinical practice, satisfaction with major, indoor work, service and employment at hospitals with 40 percent being explained by these variables. Conclusion: Through this study we found that clinical practice belonging has the greatest impact on career identity. In order to enhance clinical practice belonging, universities and clinical institutions need to develop new programs and curricula.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate nursing students' understanding of the prevention of COVID-19, as well as their anxiety towards the disease and their perception of their professional identity in the wake of the pandemic, in Zhengzhou, China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed to investigate 474 nursing students by cluster sampling using a stratified questionnaire from February 15 to March 31, 2020. Multiple linear regression was used to identify the factors affecting professional identity. Binary and multiple logistic regression were used to identify the factors affecting anxiety. Results: Responders with a high level of understanding of COVID-19 and frequent use of behavioral strategies for its prevention comprised 93.2% and 30.0% of the cohort, respectively. Professional identity was significantly associated with gender and anxiety (p < .050). The prevalence of anxiety among nursing students was 12.4%. Male (odds ratio [OR] = 2.39; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.26~4.52), sophomores (OR = 5.30; 95% CI = 1.61~7.45), and infrequent use of prevention measures (OR = 3.49; 95% CI = 1.16~5.19) had a significant effect on anxiety. Conclusion: Anxiety during the COVID-19 epidemic gives an adverse effect on the professional identity of nursing in students. Nursing education institutions need to provide psychological counseling services for nursing students, in addition to improving their teaching of COVID-19 prevention strategies.

The purposes of this study were to investigate stress responses of senior high school students(examines) preparing for college entrance examination and to identify the relationship between stress responses and self-esteem. The subjects of this study were 261 senior high school students from three high schools located in three different Gu Seoul Korea. Data were collected from 19th to 27th march, 1998. Stress responses were measured by SOS (symptoms of stress) inventory and self- esteem was measured by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results were as follows : 1. The mean SOS score of subjects was 1.22 and that showed statistically significant according to gender difference (t=-6.00, P<0.0001) and father's occupations (F=3.10, P=0.006). 2. The mean self-esteem score was 2.77 and that showed statistically significant difference according to economic status(F=3.96, P=0.02) and father's occupations (F=2.71, P=0.01). 3. There was significant negative correlation between the mean SOS score and the mean self-esteem score(r=-0.31, P=0.0001). In conclusion, the examines had very high physiological and psychological stress responses and especially female showed higher stress responses than male. For this reason, school nurses are recommended (1)to develop appropriate stress management technique, (2) to provide more intensive care for health of female examines Nursing intervention should be developed for enhancing self-esteem of examines because self-esteem is negatively correlated with SOS.
Global efforts to identify groups at high risk for schistosomiasis have mainly concentrated on identifying their geographical distribution. Investigations on the socioeconomic characteristics of high-risk groups are relatively scarce. This study aimed to explore the associations between schistosomiasis among students and their parents' occupations. A nationwide cross-sectional survey was conducted targeting 105,167 students in 1,772 primary schools across Sudan in 2017. From these students, 100,726 urine and 96,634 stool samples were collected to test for Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni infection. A multi-level mixed effect analysis was used with age and sex as fixed factors, and school as a random factor. The odd ratios (ORs) of practicing open defecation among farmers' children were almost 5 times higher than their counterparts whose parents were government officials (OR=4.97, 95% confidence intervals (CIs): 4.57-5.42, P<0.001). The ORs of contacting water bodies for watering livestock among farmers' children were more than 4 times higher than those of children whose parents were government officials (OR=4.59, 95% CIs: 4.02-5.24, P<0.001). This study shows that schistosomiasis represents a disease of poverty and that farmers' children constituted a high-risk group.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is an endemic parasitic infection in the Mediterranean region, including Libya and its Al-jabal Al-gharbi province. We aimed at studying the occupational relevance as well as other epidemiological aspects of CL. We investigated 140 CL cases who attended at Gharyan outpatient polyclinic during a period of 6 months in 2009. CL infection was clinically diagnosed and confirmed by demonstration of Leishmania parasites on smears from lesions. Our findings showed that males were more affected than females (P=0.04), and people above 10-years were more affected than younger ones (P=0.0001). A significant percent of CL cases belonged to Al-Kawasem subprovince (P=0.0001). Farm-related activities were the most frequent occupations among CL cases (P=0.04). In addition to farm workers, housewives and students are at risk groups since they are engaged at farm activities. Moreover, those who have occupations that require staying outdoors for a part of night, e.g., policemen, are also at risk. Compared to children, adult CL patients had multiple lesions (P=0.001) that were more prevalent in their upper and lower extremities than the face (P=0.0001). We conclude that CL is a major health problem in Al-jabal Al-gharbi province of Libya. The presence of rodents and sandflies makes it a suitable environment for Leishmania to spread in an endemic epidemiological pattern. Being engaged in farming activities or outdoor occupations increases the risk of infection. Various clinical patterns of CL suggest the presence of more than 1 species of Leishmania at Al-jabal Al-gharbi province. We propose that the 2 species responsible for CL in this area are L. major and L. tropica. Further investigations to identify the leishmanial species responsible for CL at Al-jabal Al-gharbi together with adoption of preventive and control programs are needed.
