일부 초등학교 교사의 구강건강 및 구강보건교육 인식에 대한 조사 (A study on awareness of oral health and oral health education among elementary school teachers)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of elementary school teachers on oral health and oral health education by position and teacher carrer in an effort to provide information on oral health awareness and oral health education. Methods : This survey was conducted on 320 elementary school teachers in Jeollabuk-do from July 2 to 19, 2012. 296 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The collected date was analyzed using the statistical package SPSS WIN 13.0. Results : As for self-rated oral health status and concern for oral health by teacher career, the teachers who had a less than six years of career considered themselves to be unhealthier and were more concerned about oral health. Regarding oral health knowledge by position and career, those who were homeroom teachers and who had a less than five years of career had a better knowledge on oral health. Concerning concern for oral health education and the necessity of oral health education, the homeroom teachers were more concerned about oral health education and were better cognizant of the necessity of that education. In relation to teaching ability for oral health, the homeroom teachers found themselves to be more capable of providing oral health education than the non-homeroom teachers. Conclusions : The improve concern and recognition of oral health for the members, the elementary school students needs to develop oral health education and policy.

광역 지자체별 노인의 통합돌봄 요구 비교 (Comparison among Wide-area Local Governments of Needs for Integrated Care for Older Adults)

  • 이 연구는 광역 지자체별 노인의 통합돌봄 요구수준을 파악하고, 비교하여 향후 광역 지자체 수준에서 노인대상 지역사회 통합돌봄의 필요성에 대한 객관적인 근거를 제시하고자 시도되었다. 한국보건사회연구원의 '2017년 노인 실태조사'에 참여한 17개 광역 지자체 노인 10,299명의 설문자료를 이용한 이차자료 분석연구이며, 분석은 SAS 프로그램을 이용하였다. 의료 요구, 일상생활 수행지원 요구, 사회적 활동 지원요구의 지역간 차이는 최저 지역에 비해 최고지역에서 각각 2,4배, 6.0배, 2.0배 높게 나타났다. 이에 따라 의료요구군, 복지요구군, 통합돌봄 요구군의 크기도 지역별로 매우 다양하였다. 이 연구의 결과를 통해 통합돌봄 요구는 광역 지자체별로 차이가 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 통합돌봄 서비스를 전국적 수준에서 효율적으로 제공하기 위해서는 광역 지자체별 대상자 요구수준을 정확히 파악하고 이에 따라 돌봄 서비스 내에서 우선 순위 선정과 활용 가능한 자원 파악 및 적절한 배분이 뒤따라야 할 것이다.

  • Infobutton is an important concept from long time in use and much has been done with respect to its standardization and context supplementation. The concept is to create contextual links to information resources from within the information systems usually health information systems. The need which has been realized by the authors of this paper is the augmentation of Infobuttons from the level of only information links to the level of knowledge links. The authors proposed the concept of knowledge links named as "Knowledgebuttons" which complements the concept Infobuttons. It adds further capabilities of getting knowledge to the users instead of just connectivity to information resources. The better representation of the information retrieved with Infobuttons is the first and foundation step to achieve the goal of getting knowledge. This paper discusses about the concept and applicability of Knowledgebuttons in health information systems. It is envisioned that this concept will add to the overall quality of patient care. Both physicians and patients can benefit from this technique as per their needs. Physicians can help in patient diagnosis and treatment critical decisions while patients can educate them to know more about their health conditions by studying the right knowledge at right time. Knowledgebuttons are able to create a true learning environment for the users while using health information systems.

당뇨환자를 위한 웹 기반의 유헬스 자가영양관리 프로그램 개발 (Development of Web-based u-Health Self-nutrition Management Program for Diabetic Patients)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop web-based self-nutrition management u-Health program for diabetic patients (DMDMG: Diabetes Mellitus Dietary Management Guide) for achieving systematic self-management of diet. Methods: The program consisted of five parts with different contents according to the results of needs assessment. Five major parts were 1) meal management part which contains calorie prescription, meals recording and dietary assessment, 2) prevention of disease part with information of diabetes and assessment of dietary behavior, 3) dietary behavior modification part with an education on dietary behavior modification plan and dietary behavior plan, 4) meal plan containing a training section for meal plan and self constructing part for meal planning by making tables, and 5) information about myself which composed with general and physical information. The system proposed in this study provides nutrients intake results right after input of diet intake, which is possible with simultaneous calculation of input data in the server with 3,495 food and 1,821 meal data base. The nutrients analysis program was evaluated with 26 diabetic patients with two-day 24 hr recall. Results: The differences of nutrients intakes between DMDMG and CANPRO 3.0 ranged from 13.5-16.5%, which was caused by the differences of databases of the two programs. The characteristics of DMDMG were; 1) it can provide an interactive tailored nutrition management, 2) it is a practical tool of diabetes nutritional management, 3) the program gives motivation for the dietary behavior modification. Conclusions: The effectiveness of whole program needs to be conducted, but the program was an innovative tool for self-management of nutrient intakes, diet behaviors, meal management and tailored nutrition education.

Barriers to Cervical Screening among Pacific Women in a New Zealand Urban Population

  • Background: In Aotearoa/New Zealand cervical screening programmes have reduced cervical cancer; however, half of cervical cancer cases among Pacific women are found among clients who had not attended cervical screening. Hence, we set out to determine health provider perspectives on barriers that prevent their services reaching Pacific women within Aotearoa/New Zealand. Materials and Methods: Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with health care providers, Pap smear takers and community workers in the Wellington region. Participants were asked their views on factors that enabled and/or constrained the participation of Pacific women in their cervical screening services. Results: Six interrelated themes influencing participation in cervical screening among Pacific women in the Wellington region were apparent: the funding and practice of service delivery; family always coming first; the cost of screening services; type of employment; the appropriateness of information; and attitudes to self and screening. Conclusions: Determining specific ethnic group actual health needs and meeting them contributes to overall improvement in New Zealand's health status. The results identified the need for improvements to the delivery of screening services including adapting cervical screening services to the requirements of Pacific women through more outreach services at alternate clinic hours; culturally appropriate practitioners; the ability to take up opportunities for health checks and foster long-term relationships; as well as appropriate monitoring and evaluation of approaches. Funding and reporting relationships also need to be compatible with the goal of improving outcomes for Pacific women. Further research into client voices for their particular needs to compliment the service provider perspective as well as minority groups is called for.

A Study on the Awareness and Need for Connected-Convergence Education among College Students in Health-Related Fields

  • Background: In modern society, rapid changes in the medical environment have required medical staff to access various information and be competent in active and effective problem-solving through collegial interactions. In line with these changes, universities are aiming to connect education. This study aimed to provide basic data of connected-convergence education by survey the awareness and needs of college students in health-related fields. Methods: This study included 122 college students from the health field. A survey regarding "the awareness and need of connected-convergence education" was conducted and general characteristics of the participants were collected from June to July 2022. Results: The awareness of connected-convergence education was low at 19.7%, but the intention to participate was high at 74.6%. Subject requirements were 18.0% for medical psychology, 13.5% for communication and counseling, 13.5% for medical artificial intelligence technology convergence, and 10.4% for sports health management. In the group showing high satisfaction with the major curriculum, the demand for connected education was also high. For efficient operation, it was investigated that it was necessary to secure specialized training courses, recognition of liberal arts credits, the right to register for courses equal to those of major students, and secure dedicated classrooms. Conclusion: Although the awareness and experience of connected-convergence education among the participants were low, the intention to participate was high. As such a plan to revitalize the university curriculum was required. It is timely to discuss the nurturing of convergence-type talents and multidisciplinary thinking skills. It is meaningful to provide basic data necessary for connected-convergence education in health-related fields at university. Universities should strive to enhance job competency in the health field by providing connected-convergence education based on student demands.

Intention Classification for Retrieval of Health Questions

  • Healthcare professionals have edited many health questions (HQs) and their answers for healthcare consumers on the Internet. The HQs provide both readable and reliable health information, and hence retrieval of those HQs that are relevant to a given question is essential for health education and promotion through the Internet. However, retrieval of relevant HQs needs to be based on the recognition of the intention of each HQ, which is difficult to be done by predefining syntactic and semantic rules. We thus model the intention recognition problem as a text classification problem, and develop two techniques to improve a learning-based text classifier for the problem. The two techniques improve the classifier by location-based and area-based feature weightings, respectively. Experimental results show that, the two techniques can work together to significantly improve a Support Vector Machine classifier in both the recognition of HQ intentions and the retrieval of relevant HQs.

국내 거주 해외유학생의 건강정보추구행위에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study of Health Information Seeking Behaviors among International Students in Korea)

  • 국내의 외국인 유학생들의 증가에도 불구하고, 유학생들의 건강정보탐색행위에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 한국에 거주하는 외국인 유학생의 건강정보탐색행위를 설문지와 결정적사건기법을 이용한 면담을 병행하여 조사하였다. 최근 경험한 건강정보 요구 중에는 코로나와 관련된 정보요구(코로나 검사, 증상, 백신)와 병원을 찾는 요구가 가장 많이 보고되었다. 건강정보탐색 과정에서 경험한 어려움으로는 언어의 문제가 가장 많았고, 한국 의료시스템에 대한 이해의 부족, 인터넷상의 정보 불충분 또는 정보과잉 등도 보고되었다. 언어의 장벽에도 불구하고, 유학생들은 한국어 정보원(친구/가족, 웹사이트, 소셜미디어)을 주요 건강정보원으로 사용하였다. 유학생들은 구글번역기를 사용하거나, 이중언어가 가능한 친구/가족의 도움을 받아 한국어 정보원을 통해 건강정보를 탐색하는 것으로 조사되었다. 한국 체류기간이 짧거나 한국어 능력이 부족한 경우, 소셜네트워크 상의 커뮤니티를 통해 건강정보를 얻는 경향을 보이는 반면, 한국 체류기간이 길고 한국어 능력이 좋을수록 웹사이트를 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 필요한 건강정보를 찾는데 있어 어느 정도 자신감을 가지는가에 대한 질문에는 참가자의 28%만이 긍정적인 대답을 하였다. 본 연구 결과를 통한 유학생들의 건강정보추구행위에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 유학생들이 필요한 건강정보를 탐색하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 방안에 관한 제언을 제시하였다.

보건교사의 역량모형 개발을 위한 델파이 연구 (A Delphi Study of Developing Competency Model for Korean Health Teachers)

  • Purpose: This study was intended to identify the competency model for korean health teachers. In order to enhance job effectiveness and talent development of health teachers in schools, this study would provide policy makers and school administrators with a competency model to be used as a valid and reliable tool for selection, development, and appraisal of health teachers. Methods: This study used three-round Delphi technique, which was a series of surveys to obtain a consensus of experts in school health and health education. 31 experts were finally involved in Delphi panel, which consisted of professors, administrators, and school teachers. Results: This study found that the competency model of health teachers was composed of fourteen competencies and 75 performance indicators. The fourteen competencies were as follows: consulting and teaching competency, students understanding competency, health problem solving competency, health assessment competency, relationship building competency, information management competency, curriculum management competency, teaching activity competency, writing competency, professional expertise competency, health business management competency, self control competency, school commitment competency, and achievement orientation competency. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, policy makers and school administrators would be able to use the competency model as a tool of new health teachers selection, existing health teachers appraisal, and new and existing teachers training and education. Future research needs to classify the levels of each performance indicator as a kind of behavior indices.

Korean RDA :Are the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) Exportable\ulcorner

  • The Dietary Reference Intakes which were developed by the Food and Nutrition Board, National Academy of Sciences of the United States, and Health Canada provide a good deal of information on nutritional requirements which apply to Korea. In addition, the processes of evidence based review of information on nutrient needs, dietary excess, and the assessment and planning of dietary intakes may be useful in Korea as well as North America. However, other aspects of the Dietary Reference Intakes may not be appropriate. This article discusses these issues.
