  • Background: To evaluate the quality of chronic care provided by public health centers located in a South Korean metropolitan city using a modified Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (ACIC). Methods: We conducted self-evaluation surveys and collected data using a modified ACIC from twenty five public health centers. Cultural validity of the original ACIC was examined by the public health and nursing science experts. Based on expert reviews, cognitive interviews, pre-test results, five items of the original ACIC that were not relevant were deleted. The response scale was changed from twelve-point Likert scale to Guttman scale but its scoring system was maintained. Results: Eighty eight percent of public health centers in this study reported that their overall quality of chronic care was at a limited or basic level. About 68% of the centers reported that the organization was as reasonably good or fully developed to provide chronic care. On the other hand, 96% of the public health centers reported that the clinical information system was at a very limited or basic support level. The decision support, the integration of Chronic Care Model components, the delivery system design, the community linkages, and the self-management support were evaluated as limited or basic level of support by more than half of the public health centers, respectively. Conclusion: In a metropolitan area of South Korea, quality of chronic care in public health centers was not found to reach acceptable levels of services. It is critical to enhance the quality of chronic care in public health centers.

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to measure the Korean health literacy level and to analyse its gaps according to the factors of socioeconomic and health status and health behaviors. Based on this, policy implications were reviewed to improve the understandability on health information and to reduce the gap among socioeconomic groups. Methods: HLS-EU-Q47, a tool developed by the European Health Literacy Project, was used to conduct a face-to-face interview survey on the health literacy for the samples from general population. Results: The public general health literacy (HL) index was 34.5 out of 50. HL is consisted of three sub-dimensions: healthcare (HC-HL), disease prevention (DP-HL), and health promotion (HP-HL). And a HL analysis found scores of 34.7 points for HC-HL, 35.4 points for DP-HL, and 33.3 points for HP-HL. The level of all HL was different according to socioeconomic characteristics and health behavior. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, more research activities on health-related literacy need to be conducted, and monitoring system on the HL level needs to be developed and implemented. In addition, a program to improve HL levels needs to be developed in order to strengthen the basis for a more sustainable healthcare system as an agenda with national health policy priority.

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare basic data that can be applied to the development of personalized programs in which chronic patients can actively participate in health care on their own, by analyzing the relationship between health literacy, level of metal health, and level of life health of patients with chronic diseases. For the study, the Korean Medical Panel's annual data(Version 2.1) was used, and 4,095 people aged 19 or older with chronic diseases and without disabilities were extracted, and frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and chi-squared goodness of fit test, etc. were performed with IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0. As a result, it was found that the higher health literacy, the higher level of mental health and level of life health. In addition, the distribution between health literacy, level of mental health, and level of life health was found to be different from each other. Respondents with higher ability to health literacy tend to evaluate level of metal health and life health lower, and the rate of change in this trend was relatively higher than the rate of change in the tendency to evaluate level of mental health and life health higher in respondents with lower ability to health literacy.

  • This study was conducted to identify the oral health status and management behavior and dental use behavior according to the level of education and income of the elderly, and to present the supporting data to prepare policies and systems for the promotion of elderly oral health. The data survey was conducted on 224 elderly people living in the Daejeon area from August 19, 2019 to October 25, 2019, and the collected data were analyzed by chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. As a result, oral health status and management behavior showed significant differences according to education and income level in denture use, implant use, oral hygiene product use, oral health education experience, and oral health management method. There was a significant difference in dental use behavior according to education and income level, and age, education level, implant use, and the main reasons for dental use were found to be factors affecting dental use. Therefore, it is expected that the quality of life of the elderly's oral health can be improved by preparing an institutional plan at the national that considers education and income level based on this study.

  • There is a need to develop an app for a caregiver health management that can provide continuous management in response to changes over time, because elderly people have low digital utilization capabilities, difficulty maintaining regular and continuous self-management. Based on this need, this study designed an app with a user-friendly UI and simple structure for the elderly. The app developed in this study supports regular management of health data such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and heart rate, as well as specific information on physical, disease, cognitive, communication, and environment in the care field. The app developed in this study supports care services by automatically entering data through integration with health management devices, automatically analyzing and visually representing recorded data to understand trends and volatility, and adding scalability to connect with various health management and medical support platforms. The effectiveness and satisfaction of the developed app were confirmed to be significant in the field verification results.

  • Safety accidents and industrial accidents are constantly occurring in existing industrial sites. In addition, the probability of accidents occurring due to physical and mental fatigue of workers is increasing. Accordingly, it is required to introduce systematic management and various systems for the safety of workers. In this paper, by developing an access control system using bio-metric information at industrial sites, we develop efficient health management and access control management functions for workers. Workers are identified through face recognition for access control, and health status is determined through iris recognition. It aims to improve accuracy and develop a more efficient management system by diagnosing signs of health abnormalities through the congestion of the iris and eyes of workers. Finally, the contents of the development consist of an on-site access control system, an access control program for administrators, and a main server system that diagnoses signs of abnormal health of users.

  • Background : Lymphedema is a progressive disorder characterized by the impairment of lymph flow from tissues to the blood circulation system. This occurs as a result of damage to the lymphatic system. Complex decongestive therapy (CDT) is a multimodal, conservative therapeutic approach that is used for the management of lymphedema. CDT consists of a combination of compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise, and skin care. Purpose : This study aimed to provide a review of available physical therapy interventions as well as general care guidelines for patients with lymphedema. Methods : The recommendations and guidelines for physical therapy management, medical management, and general information were reviewed from the following sources: 1) The American Physical Therapy Association, 2) The Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy, and 3) The International Society of Lymphology. This review contains general information, including the medical management and the importance of physical therapy in lymphedema. Physical therapy management should be based on an assessment of the patients' presenting impairments, including based on inclusion or exclusion of physical therapy interventions. This review also outlines a step-by-step approach that starts with disease diagnosis and progression all the way through to rehabilitation as an outpatient. Conclusion : Depending on the patients' journey to recovery and the requirement for rehabilitation, physical therapy interventions should focus on the patients' needs including pain, appearance, physical function and general rehabilitation. We hope that this review will provide information on evidence-based physical therapy and general care to patients with lymphedema.
