Methods: A survey was conducted among 165 married immigrant women in Gyeongsangnam-do from January 1 to March 20, 2010. Results: Results in this study showed that 51.5% have never participated in Pap Smear screening. Among those who have participated in the Pap Smear screening, 10.9% had regular screening, while 37.6% had irregular screening. Pap smear screening behavior was significantly different according to the experiences in health checkup ($x^2$=34.009, p<.001)', whether or not there was a hospital the woman regularly visited ($x^2$=7.768, p=.021) and perceived barriers (F=3.214, p=.043). Conclusion: For improvement of Pap smear participation, this study proposes to develop various nursing intervention programs which can improve perceived barriers in regards to the related variables. In addition, it is necessary to come up with a strategy to advertise the participation in Pap smear screening in a systematic and continuous manner in order to raise womens' awareness and to make married immigrant women realize the importance of regular Pap smear screenings.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the factors related to stress perception. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 109 people living in Gimpo city from January 16 to April 15, 2013. The data were analyzed using SPSS window ver. 19.0(IBM CO., Armonk, NY, USA) for t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results : Men and group of 59 years old tended to have higher stress perception than women and those who over 60 years old, but the results were not statistically significant. Stress perception was higher among the group with systemic dryness and oral dryness(each${\geq}1$) and the group reporting high difficulty in daily living due to oral problem(${\geq}2$)(p<0.05). Especially, the factor that was most correlated to stress perception was systemic dryness(${\beta}$=0.347) followed by problem of daily living for oral problem(${\beta}$=0.278, p<0.01). Conclusions : Systemic dryness and oral problem can increase the level of stress perception, mouth dryness and oral problems are a part of stress responses. Therefore, the regular health checkup must be done and early treatment to reduce stress perception as well as negative aspects caused by stress. It will contribute to the enhancement of public health and life of quality.

  • To evaluate the degree of obesity based on differential combinations of BMI and body fat ratio, and thereby to obtain the comprehensive determination of coronary heart disease risk factors. The present study was conducted among 3,731 individuals(male; 2,312, female; 1,419) who underwent general health checkup in the general health promotion center in a university hospital during 2-year period from Jan. 2008 to Dec. 2009. Based on the obesity categories from combinations of BMI and body fat ratio, 30.2% were "normal", 8.9% were "seemingly obese", 31.2% were "occult obese", and 29.8% were "obese". By sexual comparison, the proportion of "normal" and "seeming obese" individuals were higher in men than women, while "occult obese" and "obesity" individuals were preponderant in women compared to men. By age, the proportion of "obesity" individuals were higher in the 40' and 50's than in 30's and 60's. Based on the association between obesity categories and each of CRF, SBP, DBP, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C and TG was significantly higher in "seeming obese" and "obesity" group than in "normal" group, but SBP, TC and LDL-C was significantly higher in "occult obese" and "obesity" group than in "normal" group. For odds ratios of each of CRF for obesity categories, it was higher in "obesity" group, "seeming obese" group, "occult obese" group than in "normal" group in that order.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the cognition of dental caries prevention by the level of socioeconomic status based on Gallup survey in Korea. Methods: This study was done by Korean Gallup survey in October, 2010. A trained researcher carried out the computer aided telephone interview(CATI) using a structured questionnaire. This study was based on the latest population statistics of resident registration and whole country's phone data base. This survey included 869 selected Korean adults over 19 years old, and they were asked to answer a CATI. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects and socioeconomic factors including age, gender, education level, monthly income, and residential area. Cognition of dental caries prevention was measured by Likert 4 scale including 'much', 'a little', 'rarely', and 'never'. The attitude toward dental caries prevention consisted of daily tooth brushing frequency, experience of oral health education, regular dental checkup, chewing gums(xylitol), regular scaling, and use of oral care devices. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 for frequency analysis, t-test, chi-square test, and one way ANOVA. Cronbach's alpha was 0.462 in oral health concern and attitude. Results: Mean of the frequencies of daily tooth brushing in men was 2.54 times and 2.78 in women. By the comparison to age group, 35-44 years old group had 2.82 times, 19-37 years old group had 2.72 times, and 45-64 years old group had 2.51 times. The level of education and monthly income was proportional to the tooth brushing frequency. Highly educated and higher monthly income group received regular dental checkup within a year and used the auxiliary oral health care devices. Conclusions: This study suggested the relationship between dental caries prevention and socioeconomic status. It is important to provide the low socioeconomic group with the better oral health promotion services in the future.

A fear level according to dental kind was high in a factor of avoiding implant treatment(p=0.015), a factor of avoiding orthodontic treatment(p=0.002), physiological reaction(p=0.009), a factor of avoiding prosthesis treatment(p=0.014), a factor of avoiding pulpectomy treatment(p=0.005), a factor of physiological reaction(p=0.017), a factor of avoiding periodontal therapy(p=0.013), a factor of physiological reaction(p=0.004), and a factor of avoiding treatment given not receiving regular checkup(p=0.027). In the above results, to reduce dental fear, there will be a need of developing diverse programs and oral health eduction for regular checkup and preventive treatment.
