  • As Korea has just turned into an aging society with the increase of average life expectancy, and the main causes of deaths is cancer and other chronic diseases. And this corresponds to a dramatic increase in medical expenses for the aged. To curve this problem, the hospice care can be an effective alternative, which can provide patients with both quality service and intensive care to help ensure high quality life for the patients. To demonstrate the economical effect of hospice services, a comparative study on the media expenses of geriatric hospitals and general hospitals, which bear similarities in common regarding the characteristics of their patients, is performed. Thus the results of the study can serve as a quantitative indication for the management of hospice services.

  • Since 2015, the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) has performed annual qualitative assessments of asthma management provided by all medical institutions that care for asthma patients in Korea. According to the third report of qualitative assessment of asthma management in 2017, the assessment appears to have contributed to improving the quality of asthma care provided by medical institutions, especially primary clinics. However, there is still a gap between the ideal goals of asthma management and actual health care policies/regulations in real clinical settings, which leads to the state of standstill with respect to the quality of asthma management despite considerable efforts such as the qualitative assessment of asthma management by national agencies such as the HIRA. At this point, a harmonized approach is needed to raise the level of asthma management among several components including medical policies, efforts of academic associations such as education and distribution of the guideline for management, and reliable financial support by the government.

  • Introduction In order to improve medical education through the introduction of a concept of comprehensive health care of a community, an area surrounding the University Campus was chosen for the Community Health Service Project. It has been on operation for last 4 years with its major emphasis on family planning services, and maternal and child health care. The major objectives of this survey at the area are to obtain: 1) The demographic data, 2) The health need and trend of medical care, 3) The attitude and practice in maternity care to be used for further improvement of the planning and the services of the project. Population and Survey Method Out of three Dongs of the Community Health Service Area, only two Dongs namely Changchun and Yonhee were selected for the survey. Total number of households and population in the area studied was 3,683 and 21,857 respectively. An interview was performed with questionnaire schedule which was recorded by interviewers. This includes the degree of utilization of health services provided by the Community Health Service Program such as family planning, prenatal care during their last pregnancy, delivery history and complications of the delivery as well as the incidence of illnesses in general. Prior to the interview, all interviewers were trained for interviewing technique for two days. The survey was carried out during the period from October December 1967. Results 1) Demographic Data : 41.3% of the population studied were children under age 15 and only 3.5% were over 60 years of age. Crude birth rate and crude death rate of this area studied during the period of November 1966-October 1967 were 20.5 and 7.7 respectively. Infant mortality rate during the same period was 35.9. 50.4% of the 2,832 households fell into the category of middle class, 39.8% to the lower class and 9.5% to the upper class in economic condition. 19.8% of 2,832 householders had no formal education, 22.7% primary school, and 57.5% middle or higher school education. 2) Health Status and Utilization of the Community Health Service: Those who suffered from many illnesses during the month of October, 1967 were 690(4.6% of 14,891 persons). • IEEE 802.15.4 networks are a feasible platform candidate for connecting all health-care-related equipment dispersed across a hospital room to collect critical time-sensitive data about patient health state, such as the heart rate and blood pressure. To meet the quality of service requirements of health-care systems, this paper proposes a multi-priority queue system that differentiates between various types of frames. The effect of the proposed system on the average delay and throughput is explored herein. By employing different contention window parameters, as in IEEE 802.11e, this multi-queue system prioritizes frames on the basis of priority classes. Performance under both saturated and unsaturated traffic conditions was evaluated using a novel analytical model that comprehensively integrates two legacy models for 802.15.4 and 802.11e. To improve the accuracy, our model also accommodates the transmission retries and deferment algorithms that significantly affect the performance of IEEE 802.15.4. The multi-queue scheme is predicted to separate the average delay and throughput of two different classes by up to 48.4% and 46%, respectively, without wasting bandwidth. These outcomes imply that the multi-queue system should be employed in health-care systems for prompt allocation of synchronous channels and faster delivery of urgent information. The simulation results validate these model's predictions with a maximum deviation of 7.6%.

  • Purpose: This research was done do identify and analyze the beginnings of the community health practitioner system in the Republic of Korea (ROK) around 1980. Method: Primary sources were collected and analyzed, mainly newspapers around 1980, the act for health service for rural areas, and other relative publications. Results: The government of the ROK was trying to solve the problem of doctorless villages and regarded the introduction of primary health care (PHC) services using registered nurses (RNs) to be an economic solution to this problem. The Korean Nurses' Association presented 'a plan for community health service' to the government party and medical association in 1976. In this plan, RNs would provide primary care at the sub-county (myun) level, and hospital would provide secondary care. The Korean Public Health Development Research Center was awarded the project 'RNs and nurse aids as CHP for primary care service and their training'. In 1977, 25 RNs began to work as PHC in 3 areas, and interim findings showed that RNs were very capable of doing PHC. The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced long term plans for health and welfare administration including a tertiary health care delivery system. RNs after training were posted to rural areas with no medical services to do medical treatment for mild cases. The Act for health services for rural areas was enacted on December 31, 1980. Enforcement Ordinance and Enforcement Regulations were enacted in 1981. In 1981, 257 CHP were selected, trained, and deployed. In 1983, the president of the ROK announced continuation of the CHP system for residents of medically vulnerable areas. The number of CHP increased from 257 in 1981 to 2038 in 1989.
