The change in physicochemical characteristics of sorghum among different varieties and at different harvest stages after heading were evaluated. The proximate compositions and chromaticity of sorghum were significantly different, depending on their varieties and harvesting times. Water solubility was high in sorghum harvested on the $50^{th}$ day after heading; however, the swelling power was reversed. Total polyphenol content of Hwanggeumchal, Nampungchal, and Sodamchal was 17.60-24.62, 17.88-24.67, and 17.37-22.37 mg GAE/g, respectively, and the flavonoid content was 10.43-13.50, 9.68-13.85, and 9.52-12.46 mg CE/g, respectively. The DPPH radical-scavenging activities were 9.94-16.21, 11.42-16.54, and 10.12-15.16 mg TE/g, respectively, and the ABTS radical-scavenging activities were 8.85-19.99, 10.51-20.24, and 9.71-17.93 mg TE/g, respectively. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, and radical scavenging activities were high in sorghum harvested on the $40-50^{th}$ day after heading. As a result, it is considered that sorghum varieties such as Hwanggeumchal, Nampungchal, and Sodamchal should be harvested on the $40^{th}$ day after heading.

In this paper, we developed a Manta-type AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) and analyzed its control performance as well as its dynamic characteristics underwater. The nonlinear motion of equations, which are expressed in terms of hydrodynamic coefficients obtained by various experiments, are used to simulate the motion of a Manta AUV underwater. We applied the sliding-mode theory to control the heading angle and depth of the vehicle, and confirmed the effectiveness of the control algorithm through simulations and sea-trials.
The studies reported herein are on the varietal differences of rice in the effects of seeding times and nursery periods on the components such as, culm length, ear length, number of ears, ear weight, straw weight, and grain/straw ratio following the first series of studies on heading date. In the present investigations, 50 rice varieties, as the preceding studies, were seeded nine times at the interval of 15 days from March 15 to July 28 in 1963. Each variety seeded at respective time was transplanted in 40 days in nursery after seeded. Reviewing the result obtained from the first series of the studies on heading date, the number of days required to heading from seeding were decreased by delaying the seeding time. Most varieties tended to decrease in the number of days from seeding to heading by the 8th planting time. Some of varieties seemed to be decreased in the number of days from seeding to heading by 9th seeding time. However most varieties were failed to show heading delaying the seeding date at the 10th seeding. The results on the effects of altering the seeding time on the components and varietal differences of the response are summarized as follows; 1) Culm length; It appeared that culm length was shortened when the number of days from seeding to heading was decreased by delaying the seeding date. The varieties which needed many days to heading were also shortened in their culm length. 2) Ear length; Ear length was also shortened when the number of days needed tocheading was decreased, by delaying the seeding time. The varieties which needed many days for heading were also shortened in their ear length, while those which headed earlier seemed to be lengthened in their ear lengths. 3) Number of ears; It was shown that the number of ears was increased with the delay of the heading date, whereas, at the 9th seeding the number of ears was decreased when delayed the heading date. 4) Ear weight; Ear weight per hill was also likely to be heavy throughout the seeding times and varieties except the 7th and 8th seedings in which it appeared to be light on the contrary. 5) Straw weight; Straw weight became heavier as delayed the seeding date throughout all the varieties and seeding dates. 6) The grain/straw ratio; The grain/straw ratio was gradually increased by the 5th seeding time, reaching the pick at 5th. An examination of the varieties at each seeding date showed that the grain/straw ratio was low from 1st to 3rd seeding and from 7th to 9th seeding, when the number of days required to heading from seeding are increased. At the 4th seeding time-which is standard seeding time-5th, and 6th seeding times the ratio was high with the delay of heading.

This study was conducted to analyze the reduction of quality and ripening rate of rice due to submergence during ripening stage and identify the physiological cause. Korean japonica type rice cultivars, Nampyeong was used in the experiment. The following 7, 14 day after heading, they were then moved into submergence treatment facility and we conducted the tests under three different submergence conditions - T1(clear water and overhead submergence), T2(Muddy water and exposure of Flag leaf end ), T3(Muddy water and overhead submergence), and the treatment lasted for 4days. The decrease of ripening rate was most severe in T3 treatment at 7days after heading, and the decrease of head rice ratio was most severe in T3 treatment at 14days after heading. Meanwhile the starch synthesis was inhibited, as the supply of assimilation products was inhibited in grain during the submergence treatment. And in stem, sucrose content was increased because the soluble carbohydrates accumulated before heading were decomposed. These changes may be due to the consumption of respiratory substrate in anaerobic conditions and the inhibition of the production of photosynthetic products by light interception. In order to see what kind of reaction occurs at the molecular level, we examined the degree of RNA expression in grain, stem and leaf. First, the expression of rna associated with starch synthesis in grain was decreased in all submergence treatment. and especially Ospul(DBE) was more decreased in 14days after heading treatment than 7days after heading treatment. This difference can explain the result that the decrease of head rice ratio was more severe at 14days after heading. And in stem, the expression of rna associated with the supply of assimilation products was decreased in submergence treatment. Finally in leaf, the expression of rna(ADH, ALDH) associated with anaerobic respiration was increased, while the expression of rna associated with photosynthesis was decreased. These results of physiological analysis can used to develop the cultivation technique and to offer the information for breeding the cultivars with tolerant characteristics to submergence stress during ripening stage in rice.
A study was carried out to investigate the variation of heading date and related yield components at Honam Agricultural Experiment Station in Korea. The treatments were consisted of five transplanting time: from May 5 to July 5 at 15-day intervals, and six cultivars: two early-maturing, two mid-maturing and two late-maturing cultivars. The results showed that variation of heading at different transplanting time was not significant at transplanting after June 5 in early-maturing cultivars, and days of heading from seeding for all tested cultivars were shorter in later transplanting times. The yield components such as numher of spikelcts, percentage of ripened grain and 1.000 grain weight were found to he great on May 5 in early-maturing cultivars and on June 5 in mid-and late-maturing cultivars. Yield was maximized at transplanting of May 20 in early maturing and on June 5 in mid-and late-maturing cultivars. When transplanting time was late, the yield difference hetween early maturing cultivars and late nldtunng ones showed 44 to 77kg/10a in the transplanting of June 20, and 26~30kg/10a in the transplanting of July 5 indicating that the late-maturing cultivars take more advantage than early-maturing ones.

The main features of offshore turret platforms are station-keeping and weathervaning functions. Due to the complexity of the yaw motion, abundant research is being done to verify the factors that affect the heading stability. Simulations are used for studies that are not possible with experiments, but the conditions must be verified using experimental results. This study presents methods to estimate turret-related parameters such as the rotational stiffness and rotational damping. A time series analysis was performed, and the results showed that the calculation using the obtained parameters agreed well with experimental results.
These studies were conducted to investigate the changes and relation in protein, rheology and bread-mating properties during hard and soft wheat maturation. Samples were collected from the fields at 25 to 50 days after heading at intervals of 5 days. Protein content, sedimentation value and Pelshenke value of the tested wheat kernel or flour differed significantly between hard and soft wheat, and was relatively constant at 35 to 40 days after heading in each cultivar. In Mixogram water absorption of the flour, soft wheat increased only slightly, while intermediate and hard wheat increased remarkedly with maturation of the kernel. Total Mixogram characteristics increased and reached its maximum level at 35 days after heading. Farinogram pattern and bread loaf volume of the flour was greatly differences at the early stages of development due to cultivar, and was relatively constant at 40 days after heading. Significant positive and negative correlations were obtained among the protein and rheological properties, and tread loaf volume as the kernel matured.

This study was carried out to introduce of agronomic characteristics, forage yields and quality of Sorghum ${\times}$ Sudangrass hybrids 'Cadan 99B' and 'Sweet Sioux WMR' from 2015 to 2016 in middle and southern regions of Korea. The field experiment design was randomized compete block in seven varieties with three repetitions. Sorghum ${\times}$ Sudangrass hybrids were sown in mid-May in middle region, and end-May in southern region of Korea, 2015 and 2016. And, the first harvests were from the end of July to the beginning of August, and the second harvests were from the end of September to the beginning of October in middle and southern regions of Korea. The observed average heading date of Sorghum ${\times}$ Sudangrass hybrids Cadan 99B and Sweet Sioux WMR were July 22. The heading date of Cadan 99B and Sweet Sioux WMR were 8 days earlier than heading control variety SX-17 and 5 days earlier than BMR control Revolution. The sugar contents of Candan 99B and Sweet Sioux WMR were 6.5 and $6.9Brix^{\circ}$, respectively. Comparison with brown mid-rid (BMR) variety, the sugar contents of Cadan 99B and Sweet Sioux WMR were 0.2 and $0.6Brix^{\circ}$ higher than Revolution, respectively. The average of dry matter (DM) yield for 2 years and 2 regions of Cadan 99B (24,587kg/ha) was the highest among the seven varieties, but there was no significant difference among other varieties except headless control variety Jumbo (19,119kg/ha) and test variety LATTE (20,778kg/ha) (p>0.05). The crude protein (CP) and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) of Cadan 99B were 7.5% and 60.2%, and Sweet Sioux WMR were 6.9% and 60.7%, respectively. The results of this study indicated that Sorghum ${\times}$ Sudangrass hybrids Cadan 99B and Sweet Sioux WMR were recommended that earlier heading date than other varieties, suitable for silage because of high sugar contents, and high yields of DM in middle and southern regions of Korea.
Early-maturing rice type is cultivated to produce rice before the Korean Thanksgiving Day. We investigated the flowering and ripening characteristics of major breeding lines in early maturing rice type. In Jeonju, field growth days (FGD) from transplanting to heading changed about 3.3 days by 10 days of transplanting days and about 2.5 days by the change of mean temperature during growth period. As the temperature during ripening stage, 1000 brown rice weight was changed 0.2 g, the rice quality of brown and milled rice was changed 5% and 6.5%, respectively. Baegilmi and Kittake showed early heading habit suitable for harvesting before Korean Thanksgiving. Joun and Pecos showed good ripening characteristics under high temperature during the ripening stage. We expect that these characteristics might be useful for breeding new rice cultivars for harvesting before Korean Thanksgiving.
This study was carried out to get infirmation for the breeding varieties and developing the cultural methods with representative 32 cultivars which were diffused from 1900 to 1982 and two cultural methods which were old one i.e., low dressing and late planting and modern one i.e., medium dressing and early planting. Duration of transplanting between cultural practices were 15 days but the duration of heading date were 5days. Panicle projecting duration was 5-10 days in all cultivars, especially, it is 5 days in early maturing varieties, 6-7 days in medium maturing varieties and 7-10 days in late maturing varieties. Periods from transplanting date to effective ripening date were 99.8 days in low dressing and late planting method, 106.2 days in modern one but the periods from heading date to effective ripening date were 31.4 days in low dressing and late planting method, 30.2 days in modern one. Ripening speed was very active from 5 to 10 days after heading and the daily increase of 1000 grain weight was from 847.8mg to 1130mg in that time and it slightly increased from 5 to 35 days after heading in Japonica varieties but increased after heading and suddenly decreased at 30 days after heading in Indica/Japonica varieties. Meteorological factors (temperature and amount of solar radiation) were positively correlated with the ripening speed but negatively correlated with the period of physiological and effentive ripening.
