  • The response of the tidal waves to friction effect is investigated in terms of deformation of Kelvin and Poincare modes, The 1st Poincare mode does not exist over the low frequency region less than the critical frequency of omega ${\omega}$${\sqrt{2f}}$, with ${\gamma}$/f=0.0, but the mode comes to exist in the presence of friction. When friction exists and its magnitude increases, the wave number increases, indicating that the wave length of the Poincare mode becomes increasingly short with increasing friction. The damping coefficient gradually increases with increasing friction over the high frequency region, but the trend is reversed over the low frequency region. In case of Kelvin wave the present study substantiates the characters of Kelvin wave examined by Mofjeld (1980) and Lee (1988). Based on the examination of frictional effects on the tidal wave propagation, the co-oscillating tides in the Yellow Sea are examined by considering both the head opening and bottom friction effects. As friction is introduced and increased in addition to partial opening at bay head, the location of the amphidromic point near the Shantung Peninsula moves more southwestward. This southwestward movement of the amphidromic point is increasingly compatible with the observed location of Ogura's or Nishida's tidal chart of the M$_2$ tide.

  • This research measures EEG signals which are generating on head skin and extracts brain concentration level related with brain activity. We have developed concentration wireless transmission system by displaying this EEG signal on PDA mobile device. The front head was used for measuring EEG signal and INA128 with TL084 and analog elements was used for measuring EEG signal, amplifying and filtering the signal. Measured analog EEG signals changed into digital signals by using ADC of PIC24FJ192 with 10bit resolution and 500Ks/s sampling rate. So The changed digital signals have transmitted to the PDA by using bluetooth. LabView 8.5 was also used for FFT transformation, frequency and spectrum analysis of the transferred EEG signal. As a result, $\alpha$ wave, $\beta$ wave, $\theta$ wave and $\delta$ wave were classified. we extracted the concentration index by adapting concentration extraction algorithm. This concentration index was transferred into PDA by wireless module and displaying.

  • There are many ways to detect the heart rate non-invasively such as ECG, PPG, strain gauge, and pressure sensor. In this paper, the pulse wave measurement system using bipolar biased head on mode of the Hall sensor is proposed for measuring the radial artery pulse. TMS320F2812 was used to implement the proposed system and a portable wireless network(zig-bee) was used to show the experimental result. It was confirmed from experiment that the performance of the implemented system was more stable and faster than PPG sensor or piezoelectric film pressure sensor.

  • The effect of electromagnetic wave on the biobody is to make a possibility not increasing temperature but also inducing physiological and psychological damage which is head or backbone. Generally a vital function of hean can be estimated by the measureing of Electro Encephalogram(EEG), and achieved a response of a find stimulus which can not be defected a subjective sympton and out of reaction. In this paper, the head can be modeled according to its medium and dervated the equation of SAR distritution, and the head of rabbit is approximately modeled three layers practically and the result of each SAR distribution is illustrated. Measured EEG from the nervous system of rabbit on a plane wave irradiated an be used quantitative analysis for the electrophysiogical effect of the biobody.

  • The head-on collision of two solitary waves are examined using a boundary element method. Attachment, detachment times and alplitudes and maximum run-up times and amplitudes are computed. Consolidation times show local minimum value if two waves are of equal amplitudes are colliding. Attachment times show local maximum value if the amplitudes of two waves are the same. The detachment time show local maximum if two wves are the same. The detachment amplitude show local minimum values if the amplitude e(=a/h) is greater than 0.3.

  • This paper presents the results of seakeeping tests in a container ship model in irregular head waves. A time domain signal generating procedure is devised so that the wave maker behaves in accordance with the specified wave spectrum. The surface elevation of generated waves is measured and analysed to render the recorded wave spectrum for comparison with the specified one. Correction is made to the time domain signal until the differences between the two spectra become negligible. The motion responses and vertical acceleration of the self-propelled ship model are measured and analysed by both the spectral and the double amplitude methods. The two methods give nearly same statistical values. Finally the recorded spectra are compared with those calculated from the frequency domain motion analysis to show the credibility of the experimental results.

  • In this paper, the results of evaluating the passenger comfort due to the standard deviation of acceleration in vertical and lateral direction regarding the ship response in irregular wave by ordinary strip method in regular wave and energy spectrum using linear superposition theory in order to evaluate the motion of experimental ship are as follows. According to the results of ship response, it was possible to find that, in order to reduce the motion of ship, a ship operating in bow sea was more stable than in quartering sea. In the results of analyzing the standard deviation of acceleration in vertical direction according to each component wave pattern, when there was a wave length of 56m and an average wave period of 6 sec, most of cases showed the peak value. And among them, the standard deviation was 0.35 which was the highest in head sea. And in case of lateral direction, the maximum value was shown in a wave length of 100m and an average wave period of 8 sec. And it was 0.16 in beam sea and ${\chi}=150^{\circ}$. In the evaluation of passenger comfort due to standard acceleration in vertical and lateral direction, it was 80% in head and bow sea. On the other hand, it was shown to be 15% in follow sea. Accordingly, when the expected wave height in a sea area where a training ship was intended to operate was known, it was possible to predict the routing of ship. And altering her course could reduce the passenger comfort by approximately 50%.

  • An Overtopping Wave Energy Convertor (OWEC) is an offshore wave energy convertor used for collecting overtopping waves and converting the water pressure head into electric power through hydro turbines installed in a vertical duct affixed to the sea bed. A numerical wave tank based on the commercial computational fluid dynamics code Fluent is established for the corresponding analysis. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation and two-phase VOF model are utilized to generate the 2D numerical linear propagating waves, which are validated by the overtopping experiment results. Calculations are made for several incident wave conditions and shape parameters for the overtopping device. Both the incident wave periods and heights have evident effects on the overtopping performance of the OWEC device. The computational analysis demonstrates that the present overtopping device is more compatible with longer incident wave periods.

  • This paper aims at giving an overview of the developments researchers at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aalborg University, Denmark (DCE), have been involved in within the field of wave energy utilization in Denmark over the past decade. At first a general introduction is given followed by a more thorough description of three ongoing projects. These are Wave Dragon, Wave Star and Seawave Slot-cone Generator. Common for these projects are that they are being, or will soon be, tested in real sea and have benefited from the Danish Wave Energy Program. The work by the department on these projects involves substantial laboratory testing, numerical simulations and real sea prototype testing.
