Neurilemmomas are uncommon benign tumors originating from the schwann cells of various cranial nerves, spinal nerves, and autonomic nerves. About 25% of the disease is found in the head and neck region and the most common single site of origin is known to be the acoustic nerve. However neurilemmomas of the peripheral segment of the lingual nerve are extremely rare neoplasms. We recendy experienced a case of a benign neurilemmoma of the lingual nerve and this case may be the second to be reported in the literature.

Schwannomas are benign tumors arising from the nerve sheaths of peripheral, autonomic and cranial nerves. Between 25% and 45% of all schwannomas occur in the head and neck region but only 4% involve the nasal cavity and paranasal sinus. Moreover, schwannoma of the pterygopalatine fossa is extremely rare. We present a case of schwannoma of the pterygopalatine fossa in a 43-year-old woman. The patient was surgically managed with endoscopic transnasal approach combined with transantral approach. After 16 months, the patient shows no evidence of recurrence.

Vascular leiomyomas are benign tumors of smooth muscle origin arising from the muscularis layer of blood vessel walls. They can occur anywhere in the body where smooth muscle is found and usually occur in the lower extremity as a slow-growing, firm, occasionally painful mass. However they are rare in the head and neck and very rare in hard palate. Here we report a case of a vascular leiomyoma presenting as a soft mass of the hard palate and review the literatures.

Mucinous adenocarcinoma is rarely reported in head and neck region. In other organ, it usually occur in breast, gastrointenstinal tract and so on. The specific histologic findings of mucinous adenocarcinoma are the large amount of extracellular mucin and tumor cell nests such as floating in mucin pool. It may develop rarely in major or minor salivary gland, but only one case of mucinous adenocarcinoma originating from parotid gland was presented in south korea. We report a case of mucinous adenocarcinoma in the tongue base considered to develop from minor salivary gland with a review of literatures.

Squamous cell carcinoma, which is a common primary head and neck malignant neoplasm that is usually restricted to the mucosal surfaces of the upper aerodigestive tract and skin, is very unusual in the major salivary gland. Among them, few cases are regarded as primary carcinomas. In this article, we present two cases of squamous cell carcinoma in the parotid gland, who first presented with painful mass on infraauricular area.

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor, especially those localized at the head and neck region. The histological prototype of lymphoepithelial carcinoma is undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Herein, we report a case of a tumor localized in the left submandibular gland in a 20-year-old male. The tumor mass was surgically excised with the submandibular gland, and the specimen was pathologically confirmed to be lymphoepithelial carcinoma.

Liposarcoma is a malignant tumor originated from adipose tissue, accounting for 20% of all soft tissue sarcomas. A 69-year-old man with anterior and posterior neck mass visited to our department and we performed an excisional biopsy in level I. Histopathological examination revealed liposarcoma, so we performed wide excision in anterior and posterior neck, and adjuvant radiotherapy. We report a unique case of well-differentiated liposarcoma on anterior and posterior neck with literature review. To our best knowledge, such case has not been reported earlier in Korea previously.

Background: The purpose of this study on the effects of deep cervical flexors strengthening exercise to forward head posture and pain of neck in patients with chronic neck pain. Method: We selected 30 subjects among neck pain patients and carried out measurements. The subjects' forward head posture was measured including head tilt angle (HTA), neck flexion angle (NFA) and forward shoulder angle (FSA), neck disability index (NDI), numeric rating scale (NRS). The subjects underwent deep cervical flexors muscle strengthening with pressure bio-feedback device for 4 weeks. Then, after intervention, the subjects' forward head posture was measured again. It was performed Wilcoxon signed-ranks test for confirming the effect of deep cervical flexor muscles strengthening exercise. Results: As a result of comparison of measurements before and after intervention, we found that there were statistically significant improvement in the subjects' NDI, NRS and forward head posture including head tilt angle, neck flexion angle and forward shoulder angle. Conclusion: We concluded that deep cervical flexors strengthening exercise has the effect of alleviation of neck pain patients and is effective for forward head posture.

Tortuosity of the internal carotid artery is not a rare condition. A 68-year-old woman presented with a 3 years' history of a pulsatile tinnitus and throat abnormal sensation. On physical examination, a soft pulsatile mass on the left posterior oropharyngeal wall was noted. By neck CT and neck MRI the tortuous internal carotd artery was visualized. Otolaryngologists should recognize this anomaly and the patient should be made aware of their condition, because it may cause a fatal or near-fatal hemorrhage during surgical procedures in the pharynx, especially tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy and drainage of peritonsillar abscess. We report a case of a left internal carotid artery tortuosity as an oropharyngeal mass.
