Rainfall-induced shallow landslide prediction considering the influence of 1D and 3D subsurface flows

  • This study aims to compare the performance of TRIGRS (Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope-stability model) and TiVaSS (Time-variant Slope Stability model) in the prediction of rainfall-induced shallow landslides. TRIGRS employs one-dimensional (1-D) subsurface flow to simulate the infiltration rate, whereas a three-dimensional (3-D) model is utilized in TiVaSS. The former has been widely used in landslide modeling, while the latter was developed only recently. Both programs are used for the spatiotemporal prediction of shallow landslides caused by rainfall. The present study uses the July 2011 landslide event that occurred in Mt. Umyeon, Seoul, Korea, for validation. The performance of the two programs is evaluated by comparison with data of the actual landslides in both location and timing by using a landslide ratio for each factor of safety class ( index), which was developed for addressing point-like landslide locations. In addition, the influence of surface flow on landslide initiation is assessed. The results show that the shallow landslides predicted by the two models have characteristics that are highly consistent with those of the observed sliding sites, although the performance of TiVaSS is slightly better. Overland flow affects the buildup of the pressure head and reduces the slope stability, although this influence was not significant in this case. A slight increase in the predicted unstable area from 19.30% to 19.93% was recorded when the overland flow was considered. It is concluded that both models are suitable for application in the study area. However, although it is a well-established model requiring less input data and shorter run times, TRIGRS produces less accurate results.

  • 'Eve 58-1', the subject of this study is a statue made of plaster and its structural stability was evaluated by utilizing the CAE program in order to prevent the risk of damage arising from impact and vibration that are generated during the packaging and transportation process given its material characteristics. CAE is an abbreviation for Computer Applied Engineering for realization by predicting changes at the time of application of virtual physical energy. It is applied by reflecting the physical property conditions and each boundary condition of plaster, and the digital images of the internal and external structure of the work were acquired through 3D scanning and CT analysis for interpretation by executing finite element modeling. When acceleration is applied to the work in the direction of its own weight, the left-right side and the front-rear side, it was possible to confirm a maximum displacement value of 15.24 mm in the head section of the front-rear side direction that has been tilted by approximately 27° from the Y-axis and the largest stress value of 12.46 MPa was at the left ankle section. The corresponding results confirmed that the left ankle section is the most vulnerable area and the section for which precautions need to be exercised and supplemented at the time of transporting the work by means of objective values.

  • Shell core making is an excellent process in terms of formability and desanding, but when the molten aluminum comes into con- tact with the shell core, gas generation by pyrolysis of the resin is inevitable. In addition, when the ventilation is inadequate, pores will remain inside the casting, which can directly lead to defects of the casting. While studies on the gas generation behavior of shell core making have been reported, the modeling of gas generation has not been extensively investigated. We will develop a gas evolution analysis method that considers the relationship between temperature and gas quantity for the core to be developed. We then use the developed method to analyze the flow and solidification behavior of metal molten metal during core mold design and low-pressure casting of cylinder head products, and predict the occurrence of casting defects to derive a casting method that min- imizes the occurrence of defects.

The Effects of Franchise CEO's Innovation and CSR Passion, and Customer Orientation on Perceived Service Quality, Customer Affection, and Commitment (프랜차이즈 기업가의 혁신 열정, 사회적 책임열정, 고객 지향성이 서비스 품질, 고객애정, 그리고 몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - The environment surrounding the franchise industry in recent years is a big threat to the franchise business. In this perspective, this study examines the effect of franchise CEO's Innovation, CSR Passion, and customer orientation(CO) on customers' perceived service quality(PSQ), affection, and commitments in the context of food-service franchise industry. This study suggests the guidelines on how franchisor uses their passion and customer orientation on customer to maintain and increase the commitments. Research design, data, and methodology - In order to achieve these purposes, research model and hypotheses were developed. Out of 500 respondents received through online survey, 449 respondents were used, because of 51 incomplete respondents. The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equational modeling with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 statistical program. Result - The results of the study are as follows. First, innovation passion has a significant impact on PSQ and customer affection. And CSR passion have a significant impact on PSQ. Second, customer orientation has a significant impact on PSQ and customer affection. Third, PSQ has a significant impact on customer affection and sustainable commitment. Fourth, customer affection has a significant impact on behavioral commitment. Fifth, behavioral commitment has a significant impacts on sustainable commitment. Conclusions - The implications of this study are following as: Restaurants franchisor and CEOs should have a passion for innovation to continuously identify consumer needs and develop new menus and services that meet their needs. Second, franchisor and CEOs need to demonstrate the importance of creating the right environment, creating a fair business, and trying to create products in a given environment. Finally, franchisor and CEOs should demonstrate how to build relationships with customers and how to maintain positive feelings. In addition, it is necessary to appeal to the customers with enthusiasm and a customer-oriented tendency of the entrepreneur of the franchise head office in order to maintain the relationship with the customer and feelings.

  • The project of China initiative Accelerator Driven Subcritical (CiADS) system has been started to construct in southeast China's Guangdong province since 2019, which is expected to be checked and accepted in the year 2025. In order to make the students in University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) better understand the main characteristic and the operation condition in the subcritical nuclear facility, the training platform for CiADS has been developed based on the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) in the Institute of Modern Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMPCAS). The CAVE platform is a kind of non-head mounted virtual reality display system, which can provide the immersive experience and the alternative training platform to substitute the dangerous operation experiments with strong radioactivity. In this paper, the CAVE platform for the training scenarios in CiADS system has been presented with real-time simulation feature, where the required devices to generate the auditory and visual senses with the interactive mode have been detailed. Moreover, the three dimensional modeling database has been created for the different operation conditions, which can bring more freedom for the teachers to generate the appropriate training courses for the students. All the user-friendly features will offer a deep realistic impression to the students for the purpose of getting the required knowledge and experience without the large costs in the traditional experimental nuclear reactor.

A Study on the Effect of Internal and External Pressures on ESG Activities and Business Performance (내외부 압력이 ESG 활동과 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study is a leading case of empirical analysis of whether, when corporate stakeholders (government, investors, customers, managers, employees) put pressure on companies for ESG management, it affects the introduction and implementation of ESG activities (environmental, social, governance) and affects business performance. As for the research method, a sustainability report was published, and a web survey of Korea Research Inc. was conducted from May 10 to May 20, 2022 targeting ESG management managers of 192 companies, and analyzed through the PLS structural equation model. As a result of the study, it was found that the introduction and execution of ESG is closely influenced by the pressure from the government, investors, managers, and employees, and in particular, the internal pressure of current managers and executives and employees has a great impact on the introduction and implementation of environmental, social, and governance activities. In particular, although external pressure also has some influence, it is practical to suggest that strong internal pressure is necessary for continuous activities and performance. And, methodologically, the main activity indicators of the GRI Reporting Guidelines, which are the most representative ESG management indicators, were developed as a questionnaire, and reliability, validity, and model fit were secured through comparison with indicators of multiple systems and expert reviews. The limitations of this study are that more in-depth analysis by industry or size is possible when ESG management is mature and sufficient samples are secured, and complex ESG pressure factor modeling is possible when more diverse stakeholders are added.

Quasi-optical design and analysis of a remote steering launcher for CFETR ECRH system

  • In order to optimize the operational safety and reliability of the upper launcher for the CFETR ECRH system, a design of the launcher for NTM control based on the remote steering concept is currently being carried out for comparison with the front steering equivalent. This paper presents the layout design and analysis of the quasi-optical system in the remote steering launcher. A 3D visual quasi-optical design tool has been developed for the quasi-optical system, which can parameterize modeling, perform general astigmatic beam calculation and show the accurate beam propagation path in the upper port. Three identical sets of quasi-optical modules are arranged in the launcher, and each one consists of two fixed double-curvature focusing mirrors, which focus and reflect the steering beams (- 12°-12°) from two square corrugated waveguides. The beam characteristics at the resonance layer are described, and the average beam radius is < 100 mm. The peak head loads on the surfaces of the two fixed mirrors are 1.63 MW/m2 and 1.52 MW/m2. The position and size of the beam channel in the blanket are obtained, and the opening apertures on the launcher-facing and plasma-facing sides of the blanket module are 0.54 m2 and 0.4 m2, respectively.

Development of BIM Based Analytical Model for Laterally Loaded Piles with Defects and Application (BIM 기반의 단면이 손상된 말뚝의 수평 거동 해석 모형 개발과 적용)

  • Nondestructive pile integrity tests are used to confirm the construction of drilled shafts as the foundation of many facilities. However, the safety of the foundation is determined only by the presence or absence of defects, and the location and scale of defects are not considered. In this study, we propose an analysis model for the lateral bearing capacity and section force connected building information modeling (BIM) by extracting the cross-sectional characteristics of the defect in piles and reviewing the safety of piles with defects. Defects at the top of piles had more effect on the change in the deflection of the pile head. Moreover, the decrease in the axial force-bending moment interaction diagram due to cross-sectional reduction increased the risk of destruction of the piles more than the change in the bending moments due to defects. The proposed method can help review the comprehensive safety of piles.

Development of Headforms for the Labor Population in Selection, Use and Maintenance of Respirators in Korea (호흡보호구의 선정, 사용 및 관리를 위한 한국형 노동인구의 인두 개발)

  • Objective: This was to develop headforms for the labor population, based on a three-dimensional(3D) face dimensions data base(DB) and a principal component analysis(PCA) fit test panel, in selection, use and maintenance of respirators in Korea. Methods: This study was part of a two-year-project initiated in 2021. The study was designed and conducted in line with ISO 16976-2 while subjects were those employed in the development of the PCA fit test panel. The approaches included literature review; examination on conformity of the 3D face dimensions DB; and development of headforms representing the labor population. The mean data were used in order to construct each model of the headforms through a way of 3D modeling and 3D printing technology. Results: A total of 2,752 subjects were determined. Five models of headforms(small, medium, large, long-narrow, short-wide) were completely constructed for the labor population. For example, means of the 10 face dimensions for medium headform model were: minimum frontal breadth 106 mm, face width 136 mm, jaw width 127 mm, face length 111 mm, interpupillary distance 69 mm, head breadth 164 mm, nose protrusion 12 mm, nose breadth 34 mm, nasal root breadth 35 mm, and nose length 50 mm. Conclusions: Five models of headforms were newly constructed using the study data. It is likely desirable that the constructed headforms, together with the 3D face dimensions DB as well as the PCA fit test panel, can be utilized more effectively in selection, use and maintenance of respirators for users including the labor population.

Fuel Consumption Modeling for a VLCC Using Added Resistance Test Results and Operation Data in Seaways (부가저항 모형시험 결과와 실해역 운항 자료를 이용한 VLCC의 연료 소모량 모델 개발)

  • Data-driven model for estimating fuel oil consumption in seaways is suggested using the model test results and operation data. The data-driven model requires the forecasted wind speed, direction, and the desired ship speed as inputs to predict the engine speed, power, and fuel oil consumption. The structure of the data-driven model is based on the deterministic model of added power of a similar vessel of which model test results in the calm water and head seas are accessible. For a given wind speed, the wind resistance and added resistance in irregular waves presented by Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum are computed to be applied to the propulsion performance prediction. The deterministic model takes a cubic approximation between the wind speed and engine speed. The model is tuned by actual operation data in seaways with various wind direction groups. The shaft power and fuel oil consumption estimation are added to the model to be validated with the operation data. The prediction model is validated with the operation data to confirm that the estimation of the engine speed is the most significant uncertainty source.
