In the ship design process, ship motion and propulsion performance in sea waves became very important issues. Especially, prediction of ship propulsion performance during real operation is an important challenge to ship owners for economic operation in terms of fuel consumption and route-time evaluation. Therefore, it should be considered in the early design stages of the ship. It is thought that the averaged value and fluctuation of effective inflow velocity to the propeller have a great effect on the propulsion performance in waves. However, even for the nominal velocity distribution, very few results have been presented due to some technical difficulties in experiments. In this study, flow measurements near the propeller plane using a stereo PIV system were performed. Phase-averaged flow fields on the propeller plane of a KVLCC2 model ship in waves were measured in the towing tank by using the stereo PIV system and a phase synchronizer with heave motion. The experiment was carried out at fully loaded condition with making surge, heave and pitch motions free at a forward speed corresponding to Fr=0.142 (Re=2.55×106) in various head waves and calm water condition. The phase averaged nominal velocity fields obtained from the measurements are discussed with respect to effects of wave orbital velocity and ship motion. The low velocity region is affected by pressure gradient and ship motion.
This study investigated the contaminant loading and characteristics of particle size distributions(PSDs) in the rainfall runoff from two different sources, the pavement road and the ancillary parking lot, and then evaluated four different types of filter media(i.e., EPP, EPS, Zeolite, and Perlite) to treat runoff water. The results showed that runoff from the pavement road contains 5.6 and 20 times higher SS and Pb concentrations, respectively, than that from the parking lot. The particles smaller than $100{\mu}m$ occupied 89.8 % of runoff from the pavement road and 81.4 % of that from the parking lot by volume. The effect of the hydraulic loading, at 950 m/day filtering linar velocity and 40 cm head loss, was largest for Zeolite, followed by Perlite, EPS, and EPP. The return period of tested media calculated by the regression equation for head loss indicated that EPP has the longest life time. The average SS removal rate was similar for all media at between 84.9 % and 89 %, while the effect of various filter column heights was different, showing minimal for EPP and maximum for EPS. All filter media tested demonstrated over 95 % of SS treatment efficiency for the particles bigger than $100{\mu}m$, while for the ones smaller than $100{\mu}m$ the efficiency was in order of EPP(82.4%) > Perlite(76.1 %) > EPS(66.2 %) > Zeolite(65.2 %). The results in conclusion implies that EPP is most effective filter media for the highly contaminated fine particles from road runoff.

In order to prevent the decrease in well efficiencies due to friction in the axial flow in long, large-diameter laterals, a multi-diameter lateral was devised and tested through lab-scale sand-box experiments to assess its performance. In the experiment, three different production rates were applied over the multi-diameter and the three single-diameter laterals to obtain the hydraulic head distributions for each, which was used to assess the performance of the laterals. Results elucidated that the multi-diameter lateral reduced the material cost by more than a third, in comparison to the single-diameter lateral, while maintaining the production rate at higher than 93%, proving its superiority. Furthermore, results indicated that exit velocities exceeding 0.8 m/sec in horizontal wells tended to distort the hydraulic head distribution near the exit, providing evidence of its inefficiency.

Background: Studies of morphological variation within and among populations provide an opportunity to understand local adaptation and potential patterns of gene flow. To study the evolutionary divergence patterns of Schlegel's Japanese gecko (Gekko japonicus) across its distribution, we analyzed data for 15 morphological characters of 324 individuals across 11 populations (2 in China, 4 in Japan, and 5 in Korea). Results: Among-population morphological variation was smaller than within-population variation, which was primarily explained by variation in axilla-groin length, number of infralabials, number of scansors on toe IV, and head-related variables such as head height and width. The population discrimination power was 32.4% and in cluster analysis, populations from the three countries tended to intermix in two major groups. Conclusion: Our results indicate that morphological differentiation among the studied populations is scarce, suggesting short history for some populations after their establishment, frequent migration of individuals among the populations, and/or local morphological differentiation in similar urban habitats. Nevertheless, we detected interesting phenetic patterns that may predict consistent linkage of particular populations that are independent of national borders. Additional sampling across the range and inclusion of genetic data could give further clue for the historical relationship among Chinese, Japanese, and Korean populations of G. japonicus.
This paper aims to develop a submerged propeller turbine for micro hydropower plant which allows to sustain high values of efficiency in a broad range of hydrological conditions (H=2~6 m, $Q=0.15{\sim}0.39m^3/s$). The two aspects to be considered in this development are mechanical simplicity and high-efficiency operation. Unlike conventional turbines that have spiral casing and gear box, this is directing driving and no spiral casing. A 10 kW class turbine which has the most high potential of the power generation has been developed. The most important element in the design of turbine is the runner blade. The initial blade is designed using inverse design method and then the runner geometry is modified by classical hydraulic method. The design process is carried out in two steps. First, the blade shape is fix and then other components of submerged propeller turbine are designed. Computational fluid dynamics analyses based on the Navier-Stokes equations have been used to obtain overall performance data for the blade and the full turbine, respectively. The results generated by performance parameters(head, guide vane opening angle and rotational speed) variations are theoretically analysed. The evaluation criteria for the blade and the turbine performances are the pressure distribution and flow's behavior on the runner blades and turbine. The results of simulation reveals an efficiency of 91.5% and power generation of 10.5kW at the best efficiency point at the head of 4m and a discharge of $0.3m^3/s$.
Backgrounds : There have not been so many studies about the correlation of logical background between acupuncture and herbal medicine. Objectives : This study was aimed to find out the logical relationship between acupuncture points of Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) and Fangfengtongshengsan(防風通聖散) for the treatment of fever disease. Methods : I investigated the background of rationale of Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) and Fangfengtongshengsan(防風通聖散) through survey of classical text include Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine(.帝.經內經, Hwang Di Nei Jing), Liujing(類經), Zhenjiujiayijing(鍼灸甲乙經) and Huangdisuwenxuanmingfanglun(黃帝素問宣明方論). Results & Conclusions : The words "Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) and Wushijiuci(五十九刺)" are founded in the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine(黃帝內經) are either prescription of the acupuncture points for the treatment of fever disease. However, acupuncture points of two methods are not same. According to Liujing(類經), Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) have used acupuncture points located in head, upper and lower extremities, trunk, and back. However Wushijiuci(五十九刺) just select acupuncture points of head and extremities without those of trunk and back. Acupuncture points located in yang meridian(45points) and Dumai(督脈, 5points) are significantly used more than those of yin meridian(8 points) and Renmai(任脈, 2points) in Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) and Wushijiuci(五十九刺). The distribution of acupuncture points used Wushijiuyu(五十九兪) have closer correlation with Fangfengtongshengsan(防風通聖散) than Wushijiuci(五十九刺) in the prescription.

Gas chromatography serves to separate the mixtures into its components, and mass spectrometer is used to analyzing of unknown compounds. But there are many problems the identification of horn compounds using by GC only. As this reason GC/MS a very powerful analyzing technique. Mass spectrometer consists of 1) inlet stem 2) ion source 3) Bass filter 4) detectors and 5) data system. There are two analyzing modes in the GC/MS, those are scan and SIM(selected ion mom toping) modes. Scan mode is used when analyzing unknown compounds and SIM mode al lows the mass spectrometer to detect specific compound with very high sensitivity. As GC/MS applications for the analysis of cosmetic products, volatile compounds in lotion, earn foundation and hair color, and carbon distribution of fatty acids in soap were performed. Also as a new sample pre-treatment technique, head space sampler/GC/MS introduced in order to analyze the volatile compounds in a toothpaste.
Adult gnathostomes were discovered in the stomach of the Jeju weasel, Mustela sibilica quelpartis, road-killed in Jeju-do (Province). Their morphological characters were examined to identify the species. Total 50 gnathostome adults were collected from 6 out of 10 weasels examined. In infected weasels, 4-6 worms were grouped and embedded in each granulomatous gastric tumor, except 1 weasel. Male worms were $25.0{\times}1.4$ mm in average size, and had a tail with pedunculate papillae, a spicule, and minute tegumental spines. Females were $40.0{\times}2.5$mm in average size, and had a tail without tegumental spines. Pointed and posteriorly curved hooklets were arranged in 8-10 rows on the head bulb. Tegumental spines were distributed from behind the head bulb to the middle portion of the body. The spines were different in size and shape by the distribution level of the body surface. Fertilized eggs were $65.5{\times}38.9\;{\mu}m$ in average size, and had a mucoid plug at 1 pole. These gnathostomes from Jeju weasels were identified as Gnathostoma nipponicum Yamaguti, 1941. By the present study, it was confirmed for the first time that G. nipponicum is distributed in Jeju-do, the Republic of Korea, and the Jeju weasel, M. sibilica quelpartis, plays a crucial role for its definitive host.
Echinostoma mekongi n. sp. (Digenea: Echinostomatidae) is described based on adult flukes collected from humans residing along the Mekong River in Cambodia. Total 256 flukes were collected from the diarrheic stool of 6 echinostome egg positive villagers in Kratie and Takeo Province after praziquantel treatment and purging. Adults of the new species were 9.0-13.1 (av. 11.3) mm in length and 1.3-2.5 (1.9) mm in maximum width and characterized by having a head collar armed with 37 collar spines (dorsal spines arranged in 2 alternative rows), including 5 end group spines. The eggs in feces and worm uterus were 98-132 (117) ㎛ long and 62-90 (75) ㎛ wide. These morphological features closely resembled those of Echinostoma revolutum, E. miyagawai, and several other 37-collar-spined Echinostoma species. However, sequencing of the nuclear ITS (ITS1-5.8S rRNA-ITS2) and 2 mitochondrial genes, cox1 and nad1, revealed unique features distinct from E. revolutum and also from other 37-collar-spined Echinostoma group available in GenBank (E. bolschewense, E. caproni, E. cinetorchis, E. deserticum, E. miyagawai, E. nasincovae, E. novaezealandense, E. paraensei, E. paraulum, E. robustum, E. trivolvis, and Echinostoma sp. IG). Thus, we assigned our flukes as a new species, E. mekongi. The new species revealed marked variation in the morphology of testes (globular or lobulated), and smaller head collar, collar spines, oral and ventral suckers, and cirrus sac compared to E. revolutum and E. miyagawai. Epidemiological studies regarding the geographical distribution and its life history, including the source of human infections, remain to be performed.
In this study an analytical tide model of uniform width with three sub-regions is presented. The three-subregions model takes into account step-like variations in depths in the direction of the channel as a way to examine the $M_2$ tide of the East China Sea (ECS) as well as the Yellow Sea (YS). A modified Proudman radiation condition has been applied at the northern open head, while the sea surface elevation is specified at the southern open boundary. It is seen that, due to the presence of an abrupt change in depth, co-amplitude lines of the $M_2$ tide are splitted to the east and west near the end of the ECS shelf region. Variations in depths, bottom friction and the open head boundary conditions all contribute to the determination of formation of amphidromes as well as overall patterns of $M_2$ tidal distribution. It is seen that increasing water depth and bottom friction in the ECS shelf results in the westward shift of the southern amphidrome. There is however no hint at all of the well-known degenerated tidal pattern being formed. It is inferred that a lateral variation of water depth has to be somehow incorporated to represent the tidal patterns in ECS in a realistic manner. Regarding the radiation factor introduced by Fang et al. (1991), use of a value larger than one, possibly with a phase shift, appears to be a proper way of incorporating the reflected waves from the northern Yellow Sea (NYS).
