This paper investigates the outage performance and optimization for the four-phase two-way transmission network with an energy harvesting (EH) relay. To enable the simultaneous information processing and energy harvesting at the relay, we firstly propose a power splitting-based two-way relaying protocol (PSTWR). Then, we discuss its outage performance theoretically and derive an explicit expression for the system outage probability. In order to find the optimal system configuration parameters such as the optimal power splitting ratio and the optimal transmit power redistribution factor, we formulate an outage-minimized optimization problem. As the problem is difficult to solve, we design a genetic algorithm (GA) based algorithm for it. Besides, we also investigate the effects of the power splitting ratio, the power redistribution factor at the relay, and the source to relay distance on the system outage performance. Finally, extensive simulation results are provided to demonstrate the accuracy of the analytical results and the effectiveness of the GA-based algorithm. Moreover, it is also shown that, the relay position greatly affects the system performance, where relatively worse outage performance is achieved when the EH relay is placed in the middle of the two sources.
This paper presents a method of design for the energy harvesting of a piezoelectric cantilever beam. Vibration modes have strain nodes where the strain distribution changes in the direction of the beam length. Covering the strain nodes of the vibration modes with continuous electrodes effects a cancellation of the voltages outputs. The use of segmented electrodes avoids cancellations of the voltage for multi-mode vibration. The resistive load affects the voltage and generated power. The optimum resistive load is considered for segmented and continuous electrodes, and then the power output is verified. One of the effective parameters on energy harvesting performance is the existence of concentrated mass. This topic is studied in this paper. Resonance and off-resonance cases are considered for the harvester. In this paper, both theoretical and experimental methods are used for satisfactory results.
An experimental pick-up type pulse crop harvester was built and its harvesting performance for green kernel black bean was evaluated. Field bean loss and harvested bean quality of the harvester were analyzed according to engine speeds of 2,000; 2,400; 2,800; 3,000; and 3,200 rpm, and travel speeds of 0.6; 1.0; and 1.4 m/s. Operating conditions and field capacity of the harvester for proper harvesting were estimated. The harvester had an optimum performance at a grain moisture content of 13.4%, an engine speed of 3,000 rpm, and a travel speed of 1.2 - 1.3 m/s. Subsequently, the picking-up, discharging, and total bean loss ratios were found to be 1.6, 1.3, and 2.9%, respectively. The whole bean, damaged bean, unthreshed bean, and foreign material ratios were determined to be 96.2, 1.0, 0.1, and 0.3%, respectively. Results showed that the harvester had lower bean loss and higher harvested bean quality than those of imported bean combines. The harvester could harvest 2 rows with a crop spacing of an approximately 1.4 m. Its optimum travel speed was estimated to be approximately 1.2 m/s when harvesting performance was taken into account using such variables as field bean loss and harvested bean quality for green kernel black bean. Effective field capacity of the harvester was estimated at approximately 40 a/h.

A rainwater harvesting device was developed for runoff flow harvesting in a small stream or channel and its performance was evaluated in small fields. The rainwater harvesting device has slits on its side of cylindrical volume in 15 cm diameter and 70 cm length, which is designed to increase its water flow harvesting capacity. The maximum collectable water quantity was about 0.0022 ton/sec (130 L/min). Rainwater harvesting device were installed in two locations (P1, P2). P1 is a point for rainfall runoff flow harvesting. P2 is a point for ordinary flow harvesting. During this study, total rainfall depth was 334.5 mm. Runoff of 1,722 ton and 7,984 ton occurred in P1 and P2, and 273 ton and 125 ton were collected by this rainwater harvesting device. Harvesting efficiency was calculated as 15.85 % and 1.57 % in P1 and P2. Clogging of screen filter media in the cylinder due to soil and suspended solids has lowered the harvesting efficiency. However, it was possible to harvest 30 ton/month of rainwater harvesting and it is expected that it will help to solve short-term water shortage.

This paper presents techniques to harvest higher voltage from piezoelectric cantilever energy harvester by structural alteration. Three different energy harvesting structures are considered namely, stepped cantilever beam, stepped cantilever beam with rectangular and trapezoidal cavity. The analytical model of three energy harvesting structures are developed using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The thickness, position of the rectangular cavity and the taper angle of the trapezoidal cavity is found to shift the neutral axis away from the surface of the piezoelectric element which in turn increases the generated voltage. The performance of the energy harvesters is evaluated experimentally and is compared with regular piezoelectric cantilever energy harvester. The analytical and experimental investigations reveal that, the proposed energy harvesting structures generate higher output voltage as compared to the regular piezoelectric cantilever energy harvesting structure. This work suggests that through simple structural modifications higher energy can be harvested from the widely reported piezoelectric cantilever energy harvester.
In Korea, researches for year-round leaf vegetables production system are in progress and the most of them are focused on environment control. Automation technologies for harvesting , transporting and grading need to be developed. This study was conducted to develop harvesting process automation system profitable to a competitive price. 1. Manipulator and end-effector are to be designed and fabricated , and fuzzy logic controller for controlling these are to be composed. 2. The entire system constructed is to be evaluated through a performance test. A robot system for harvesting a lettuce was developed. It was composed of a manipulator with 20DOF (degrees of freedom) an end-effector, a lettuce feeding conveyor , an air blower , a machine vision device, 6 photoelectric sensors and a fuzzy logic controller. A fuzzy logic control was applied to determined appropriate grip force on lettuce. Leaf area index and height index were used as input parameters, and voltage was used as output parameter for the fuzzy logic controller . Success rate of the lettuce harvesting system was 93.06% , and average harvesting time was about 5 seconds per lettuce.

In this paper, we propose a system model which effectively transmits the data and conducts RF energy harvesting in a wireless communication network of LTE and 5G. Through time switching and power splitting schemes, we find a time & power ratio to show the good performance according to the standard that we set up for transmitting a signal and conducting RF energy harvesting. So selecting optimal time & power ratio, we can efficiently transfer data to other drones and harvest the amount of harvested power simultaneously we desire. Also, according to conducting the performance analysis, we can compare an ideal receiver with the proposed system model. And, we suggest a future direction of research.
Recently, interest in technology for eco-friendly energy harvesting has been increasing. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is one of the most fascinating materials that has been used in energy harvesting technology as well as micro-filters by utilizing an electrostatic effect. To enhance the performance of the electrostatic effect-based nanogenerator, most studies have focused on enlarging the contact surface area of the pair of materials with different triboelectric series. For this reason, one-dimensional nanofibers have been widely used recently. In order to realize practical energy-harvesting applications, PVDF nanofibers are modified by enlarging their contact surface area, modulating the microstructure of the surface, and maximizing the fraction of the ν-phase by incorporating additives or forming composites with inorganic nanoparticles. Among them, nanocomposite structures incorporating various nanoparticles have been widely investigated to increase the β-phase through strong hydrogen bonding or ion-dipole interactions with -CF2/CH2- of PVDF as well as to enhance the mechanical strength. In this study, we report the recent advances in the nanocomposite structure of PVDF nanofibers and inorganic nanopowders.
The on-board appendages of satellites with mechanical moving parts such as the fly-wheel, the control-moment gyro, the cryocooler, and the gimbal-type directional antenna can generate an undesirable micro-vibration disturbance, which is one of the main causes of the image-quality degradation that affects high-resolution observation satellites. Consequently, the isolation of the micro-vibration issue has always been considered as salient, and the micro-vibration is therefore the focus of this study wherein a complex system that can provide the dual functions of a guaranteed vibration-isolation performance and electrical energy harvesting is proposed. The vibration-isolation and energy-harvesting performances of the complex system are predicted through a numerical analysis based on the characteristics that are obtained from component-level tests. In addition, the effectiveness of the complex system that is proposed in this study is verified through an assembly-level functional-performance test.

In this study, we propose a ripe tomato bunch localization method based on convolutional neural networks, to be applied in robotic harvesting systems. Tomato images were obtained from a smart greenhouse at the Rural Development Administration (RDA). The sample images for training were extracted based on tomato maturity and resized to 128 × 128 pixels for use in the classification model. The model was constructed based on four-layer convolutional neural networks, and the classes were determined based on stage of maturity, using a Softmax classifier. The localization of the ripe tomato bunch region was indicated on a class activation map. The class activation map could show the approximate location of the tomato bunch but tends to present a local part or a large part of the ripe tomato bunch region, which could lead to poor performance. Therefore, we suggest a recursive method to improve the performance of the model. The classification results indicated that the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score were 0.98, 0.87, 0.98, and 0.92, respectively. The localization performance was 0.52, estimated by the Intersection over Union (IoU), and through input recursion, the IoU was improved by 13%. Based on the results, the proposed localization of the ripe tomato bunch area can be incorporated in robotic harvesting systems to establish the optimal harvesting paths.
