  • This study was performed to estimate mineral contents of some underground vegetables including potatoes, sweet-potatoes, carrots, radishes, onions, garlics, gingers, burdocks, and lotus roots produced in Korea using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry). According to the measurement, the amounts of Na, Mg, Al, K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Zn, and P in underground vegetables are variable depending upon harvest time and individual plants. It was noticeable that the carrots showed quite higher amounts of Na compared to other underground vegetables. The amounts of Cd, Ba, Sr and Pb appeared to be below hazard levels. In the near future we expect that this study can be used to calculate the mineral intake from underground vegetables.

  • Development of efficient substrate formulas to improve yield and shorten production time is one of the prerequisites for commercial cultivation of edible mushrooms. In this study, fifteen substrate formulas consisting of varying ratios of palm press fibre (PPF), mahogany sawdust (MS), Gmelina sawdust, wheat bran (WB), and fixed proportions of 1% calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) and 1% sucrose were assessed for efficient Lentinus squarrosulus production. Proximate compositions of mushrooms produced on the different substrate formulas were also analysed and compared. Substrate formulations containing 85% PPF, 13% WB, 1% $CaCO_3$, and 1% sucrose were found to produce the highest carpophore yield, biological efficiency and size (206.5 g/kg, 61.96%, and 7.26 g, respectively). Days to production (first harvest) tended to increase with an increase in the amount of WB in the substrate formulas, except for PPF based formulas. The addition of WB in amounts equivalent to 8~18% in substrate formulas containing 80~90% PPF resulted in a decrease in the time to first harvest by an average of 17.7 days compared to 80~90% MS with similar treatment. Nutritional content of mushrooms was affected by the different substrate formulas. Protein content was high for mushrooms produced on formulas containing PPF as the basal substrate. Thus, formulas comprising PPF, WB, $CaCO_3$, and sucrose at 85% : 13% : 1% : 1%) respectively could be explored as starter basal ingredients for efficient large scale production of L. squarrosulus.

  • For the establishment of efficient method of potassium topdressing on rice the optimum time and amount were investigated and discussed on the basis of available data from nutriophysiological studies, soil characteristics and fertilizer trials in fields. The followings were pointed out. 1. According to yield rice plants require more potassium around heading under water culture. 2. Potassium involves in harvest index, filled grain ratio, grain weight and number of spikelets per panicle. 3. Potassium is lost after heading in most fields in spite of highest requirement during this period. 4. The higher $K_2O/N$ ratio in straw at harvest is, the higher the yield. 5. Relatively low efficiency of potassium fertilizer under the field condition may be due to improper application method rather than natural supply from soil and irrigation water. 6. Appropriate topdressing time appears at in effective tillering stage for the prevention of nitrogen excess and at 15 to 20 days after transplanting, ear formation stage and 5 days after heading for the prevention of soil reduction damage. Two times of topdressing for clayey soil and three times for sandy soil seems reasonable in practice together with nitrogen topdressing, 7. The reasonable ratio basal to topdressing of potassium fertlizer seems to be 2/3 and $N/K_2O$ ratio of fertilization for ear formation stage appeared also as 2/3.

  • Environmental conditions are important in increasing the fruit sugar content and productivity of the new cultivar Autumn Sense of Actinidia arguta. We analyzed various soil properties at experimental sites in South Korea. A Pearson's correlation analysis was performed between the soil properties and sugar content or productivity of Autumn Sense. Further, a decision tree was used to determine the optimal soil conditions. The difference in the fruit size, sugar content, and productivity of Autumn Sense across sites was significant, confirming the effects of soil properties. The decision tree analysis showed that a soil C/N ratio of over 11.49 predicted a sugar content of more than 7°Bx at harvest time, and soil electrical capacity below 131.83 µS/cm predicted productivity more than 50 kg/vine at harvest time. Our results present the soil conditions required to increase the sugar content or productivity of Autumn Sense, a new A. arguta cultivar in South Korea.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of rainfall time on growth and seed quality in safflower. Rainfall was done artificially and the treatment of rainfall time was divided into 6 parts. Each rainfall treatment was done from the first day of flowering up to the fifth day after flowering, from sixth day after flowering to the tenth day after flowering, from the eleventh day after flowering to the fifteenth day after flowering, from sixteenth day after flowering to twentith day after flowering, from the twenty first day after flowering to the twenty fifth day after flowering and from twenty sixth day after flowering to thirtith day after flowering. Rainfall time after flowering did not affect disease occurrence on the upper part and flower bud of safflower, which were infected at were 3.3 and 1, respectively. Ripened grain found on the main stem and primary branch was 37.4% and 65.0% at first day to the fifth day and sixth day to the tenth day rainfall periods after flowering, respectively. Yield was decreased by 14% in the sixth day up to the tenth day and eleventh day up to the fifteenth day rainfall periods (282-281kg/10a) compared to the one under control (327kg/10a). Hunter's L value was 73.5 and 69.9 in twenty first up to the twenty fifth day and twenty sixth up to the thirtith day rainfall periods after flowering, which decreased significantly to 79.3 under non-rainfall period. Therefore, it can be concluded that the optimum harvest time is twenty fifth day after flowering to maintain seed quality at rainfall time and before harvesting period.

  • In this paper, we propose a system model which effectively transmits the data and conducts RF energy harvesting in a wireless communication network of LTE and 5G. Through time switching and power splitting schemes, we find a time & power ratio to show the good performance according to the standard that we set up for transmitting a signal and conducting RF energy harvesting. So selecting optimal time & power ratio, we can efficiently transfer data to other drones and harvest the amount of harvested power simultaneously we desire. Also, according to conducting the performance analysis, we can compare an ideal receiver with the proposed system model. And, we suggest a future direction of research.

  • The optimum planting date, plant spacing, and harvest time for production of small-sized sweetpotato was evaluated in 2003 to 2004 at the Mokpo Experiment Station. Small-sized sweetpotato is important as snack food in Korea. Optimum planting date and plant spacing were with plastic mulch, and mid-April and $75{\times}15{\sim}20cm$ respectively, mid-June and $75{\times}15cm$ respectively without plastic mulch. Storage root yield decreased with early harvest, but the ratio of small-sized sweetpotato was higher in plots harvested after 100 days of planting (DAP) than that of 80 or 120 DAP. Considerable differences in storage root yield was noted with planting dates and plant spacings, but the use of plastic mulch resulted to smaller yield variations in plots, harvested in mid-April. Planting in mid-April and harvesting after 100 DAP increased income by about $32{\sim}61%$ compared with plantings mid-May.

  • Yuza (Citrus junos) had 3 varieties and they had variable physiochemical properties. This study analyzed free sugar, hesperidine, naringin, flavonoid contents and antihypertensive activities according to variety and harvest time of Yuza. Three Yuza varieties, native (C. junos I), improved I (C. junos I + Poncirus trifoliata), improved II (C. junos I + C. junos II) were used. Harvest time could influence biochemical properties of Yuza such as acidity and $^{\circ}brix$. When the Yuza harvested at behind of season, the sugar/acid ratio went up because the acidity was decreased but sugar content was increased. Fructose content was dramatically high at November, Yuza of the season. Total flavonoids was high in pulp parts of improved II and in juice of native one harvested at October. The content of hesperidin and naringin in peels and juices were high in immature fruits fresh-picked at July since then they were decreased steadily and there were no difference according to varieties. The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition was powerful at pulp of Yuza in particular native one picked at November.

  • Background Three-dimensional (3D) model printing improves visualization of anatomical structures in space compared to two-dimensional (2D) data and creates an exact model of the surgical site that can be used for reference during surgery. There is limited evidence on the effects of using 3D models in microsurgical reconstruction on improving clinical outcomes. Methods A retrospective review of patients undergoing reconstructive breast microsurgery procedures from 2017 to 2019 who received computed tomography angiography (CTA) scans only or with 3D models for preoperative surgical planning were performed. Preoperative decision-making to undergo a deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) versus muscle-sparing transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (MS-TRAM) flap, as well as whether the decision changed during flap harvest and postoperative complications were tracked based on the preoperative imaging used. In addition, we describe three example cases showing direct application of 3D mold as an accurate model to guide intraoperative dissection in complex microsurgical reconstruction. Results Fifty-eight abdominal-based breast free-flaps performed using conventional CTA were compared with a matched cohort of 58 breast free-flaps performed with 3D model print. There was no flap loss in either group. There was a significant reduction in flap harvest time with use of 3D model (CTA vs. 3D, 117.7±14.2 minutes vs. 109.8±11.6 minutes; P=0.001). In addition, there was no change in preoperative decision on type of flap harvested in all cases in 3D print group (0%), compared with 24.1% change in conventional CTA group. Conclusions Use of 3D print model improves accuracy of preoperative planning and reduces flap harvest time with similar postoperative complications in complex microsurgical reconstruction.

  • Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii has been used a culinary material and traditional medicine for a long time in worldwide and recently the researches to find biological effects have been increased such as dopamine activation, preventive effect against phytopathogens, inhibitive effect against erythrocyte coagulation, anti-oxidative effect, anti-tumorigenic effect, etc. However it is hard to cultivate Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii it is impossible to be mass-produced and in order to solve the problem in this study we found the appropriate cultivation period and the harvest point for it. For life cycle (from primordium formation to harvest) the morphology, weight, and quantity of polysaccharide of Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii were measured using with 5 bodies per a day and it could be divided for 4 stages; primordium formation, growth, needle maturation, and aging. And then from the results the Zeide nonlinear growth curve could be gotten. At 13th day after cultivation there is the relation between the change of media weight and body weight and at 14th day after cultivation the rate of polysaccharide in the body was 11 %. However in the case of O2 insufficient supply the malformation of them was observed.
