The objectives of this study were to determine the natural frequency of a walking-type cultivator's handle using a modal analysis, to determine whether or not the handle resonates with forcing frequency induced by its engine, and to determine a method to reduce the handle vibration using a technique of the operational deflection shapes(ODS). Results of the study are as follows: The natural frequencies of the handle up to third harmonics were found to be 20.4, 22.5 and 92.1 Hz in the vertical direction and 14.9, 93, and 132 Hz in the horizontal direction. It was found that the handle does not resonate with the forcing frequency of the engine, which is 52 Hz. The operational deflection shape analysis revealed the deflected shapes of the handle in the vertical and horizontal directions and suggested that the handle vibration can be reduced by adding some mass to the place where the largest deflection occurs. Attaching of 1.1 kg mass adjacent to the largely deflected area resulted in reductions of vibration from 9.45 to 8.03 m/s$^2$ in x-axis direction from 3.89 to 3.16 m/s$^2$ in y-axis direction and from 7.89 to 3.09 m/s$^2$ in z-axis direction, which are respectively 15, 19 and 61% reductions. The total vibration level was reduced by 29%, indicating that mass-adding method by the ODS is very effective for reducing the handle vibrations of the cultivators.

In the LED lighting industry, the dimming function in the LED lamp is required by demands of many consumers. To drive this LED lighting, various types of power converters have been applied. Among them, an LLC resonant converter could be applied for high power LED lighting because of its high efficiency and high power density, etc. The function of power factor correction (PFC) might be added to it. In this paper, a dimmable single-stage asymmetrical LLC resonant converter is proposed. The proposed converter performs both input-current harmonics reduction and PFC using the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Also, the lower voltage stress across switching devices as well as the zero voltage switching (ZVS) in switching devices is realized by the proposed topology. It can reduce cost and has high efficiency of the driver. In addition, the regulation of the output power by variable switching frequency can vary the brightness of a light. In the proposed converter, one of the attractive advantages doesn’t need any extra control circuits for the dimming function. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulation and experimental results from a 300W prototype are provided.

In this paper, a new Three-Phase Lead-Lag Random Pulse Position PWM(LL-RPWM) scheme is proposed and implemented for decreasing audible acoustic noise of motor drives. In the proposed RPWM(Random PWM), each of three phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated. Along with the randomization of the PWM pulses, we can obtain the effects of spread spectra of voltage, current as in the case of randomly changed switching frequency. To verify the validity of the proposed LL-RPWM, the simulation and experimental study was tried. Along with the randomization PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is also executed in the C167 micro-controller. The simulation and experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics are spread to a wide band area and that the audible acoustic noise is reduced by the proposed RPWM method.
This paper deals with the optimum design of the stator and rotor shape of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) that are used in applications for automobiles. IPMSMs have the following advantages: high power, high torque, high efficiency, etc. However, cogging torque which causes noise and vibrations is generated at the same time. The optimum design of shape of a IPMSM was carried out with the aim of reducing cogging torque. Six variables which affect to the performance of a IPMSM are chosen. The main effect variables were determined and applied to the response surface methodology (RSM). When compared to the initial model using the finite elements method (FEM), the optimum model highly reduces the cogging torque and improves the total harmonics distortion (THD) of the back-electro motive force (EMF). A prototype of the designed model was manufactured and experimented on to verify the feasibility of the IPMSM.

In direct contact power transmission from primary driver to a secondary follower system, one of the important problems is the vibration transmission. In some applications the reduction of vibration level at the follower as low as possible is utmost important. The magnetically coupled power transmission system is often used for this purpose. In this paper, we report the results of a study on the nonlinear torsional vibration transmission characteristics of the rotating system with face-type magnet coupling. The equation of motion is solved analytically up to 3rd harmonics. The frictional force of the sliding bearing which is used to support the follower shaft is considered as the damping term. Numerical calculations are carried out by the Newton-Raphson method, and the calculated results are compared with the experiment for face-type magnet coupling. The experimental result shows that the reasonant frequency of the magnet coupling is very low and is in good agreement with the theoretical result when the average damping constant per unit area of the sliding bearing is 0.5kg*f*sec/cm$^{3}$.

This paper proposes the pulse width modulation (PWM) control strategy for low-speed operation in the three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverters based on the bootstrap gate drive circuit. As a purpose of the cost reduction, several papers have paid attention to the bootstrap circuit applied to the three-level NPC inverter. However, the bootstrap gate driver IC cannot generate the gate signal to the IGBT for low-speed operation, because the bootstrap capacitor voltage decreases under the threshold level. For low-speed operation, the dipolar and partial-dipolar modulations can be the effective solution. However, these modulations have drawbacks in terms of the switching loss and THD. Therefore, this paper proposes the PWM control strategy to operate the inverter at low-speed and to minimize the switching loss and harmonics. The experimental results are presented to verify the validity on the proposed method.

This study proposes a compensation method for the dead-time effects on a single-phase grid-connected inverter. Dead time should be considered in the pulse-width modulation gating signals to prevent the simultaneous conduction of switching devices, considering that a switching device has a finite switching time. Consequently, the output current of the grid-connected inverter contains odd-numbered harmonics because of the dead time and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. The effects of dead time on output voltage and current are analyzed in this study. A new compensation algorithm based on second-order generalized integrator is also proposed to reduce the dead-time effect. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed compensation algorithm.
This paper proposes a grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system, consisting of Voltage-fed dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc-dc converter with single phase inverter. The proposed converter allows a small dc-link capacitor, so that system reliability can be improved by replacing electrolytic capacitors with film capacitors. The double line frequency free maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is also realized in the proposed converter by using Ripple Correlation method. First of all, to eliminate the double line frequency ripple which influence the reduction of DC source capacitance, control is developed. Then, a designing of Current control in DQ frame is analyzed and to fulfill the international harmonics standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547, $3^{rd}$ harmonic in the grid is directly compensated by the feedforward terms generated by the PR controller with the grid current in stationary frame to achieve desire Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). 5-kW PV converter and inverter module with a small dc-link film capacitor was built in the laboratory with the proposed control and MPPT algorithm. Experimental results are given to validate the converter performance.
In speech processing, the waveform codings are concerned with simply preserving the waveform of signal through a redundancy reduction process. In the case of speech synthesis, the waveform codings with high quality are mainly used to the synthesis by analysis. Because the parameters of this coding are not classified as both excitation and vocal tract, it is difficult to apply the waveform coding to the synthesis by rule. Thus, in order to apply the waveform coding to synthesis by rule, it is necessary to alter the pitches. In this paper, we proposed a new pitch alteration method that can change the pitch period in waveform coding by dividing the speech signals into the vocal tract and excitation parameters. This method is a time-frequency domain method preserving the phase component of the waveform in time domain and the magnitude component in frequency domain. Thus, it is possible that the waveform coding is carried out the synthesis by rule in speech processing. In case of using the algorithm, we can obtain spectrum distortion with $2.94\%$. That is, the spectrum distortion is decreased more $5.06\%$ than that of the pitch alteration method in time domain.
This is a preliminary study of the feasibility of obtaining reliable tidal current harmonic constants, using one month of current observations, to verify the accuracy of a tidal model. An inference method is commonly used to separate out the tidal harmonic constituents when the available data spans less than a synodic period. In contrast to tidal constituents, studies of the separation of tidal-current harmonics are rare, basically due to a dearth of the long-term observation data needed for such experiments. We conducted concurrent and monthly harmonic analyses for tidal current velocities and heights, using 2 years (2006 and 2007) of current and sea-level records obtained from the Tidal Current Signal Station located in the narrow waterway in front of Incheon Lock, Korea. Firstly, the l-year harmonic analyses showed that, with the exception of $M_2$ and $S_2$ semidiurnal constituents, the major constituents were different for the tidal currents and heights. $K_1$, for instance, was found to be the 4th major tidal constituent but not an important tidal current constituent. Secondly, we examined monthly variation in the amplitudes and phase-lags of the $S_2$ and $K_1$ current-velocity and tide constituents over a 23-month period. The resultant patterns of variation in the amplitudes and phase-lags of the $S_2$ tidal currents and tides were similar, exhibiting a sine curve form with a 6-month period. Similarly, variation in the $K_1$ tidal constant and tidal current-velocity phase lags showed a sine curve pattern with a 6-month period. However, that of the $K_1$ tidal current-velocity amplitude showed a somewhat irregular sine curve pattern. Lastly, we investigated and tested the inference methods available for separating the $K_2$ and $S_2$ current-velocity constituents via monthly harmonic analysis. We compared the effects of reduction in monthly variability in tidal harmonic constants of the $S_2$ current-velocity constituent using three different inference methods and that of Schureman (1976). Specifically, to separate out the two constituents ($S_2$ and $K_2$), we used three different inference parameter (i.e. amplitude ratio and phase-lag diggerence) values derived from the 1-year harmonic analyses of current-velocities and tidal heights at (near) the short-term observation station and from tidal potential (TP), together with Schureman's (1976) inference (SI). Results from these four different methods reveal that TP and SI are satisfactorily applicable where results of long-term harmonic analysis are not available. We also discussed how to further reduce the monthly variability in $S_2$ tidal current-velocity constants.
