  • Satellite communication system uses a high non-linear HPA(high power amplifiers) in the earth station and satellite transponder. Therefore, it is important to consider the nonlinear effect of HPA on the communication system. In this paper, we find the variation of power spectrum density by nonlinearity HPA and the change of harmonic component according to IBO (input back-off). When the BPSK is used for satellite communication system, we analyze BER performance including the external co-channel interference (CCI) and the adjacent channel interference (ACI) resulting from the HPA nonlinearity. BER degrades as ACI magnitude grows up when the uplink SNR, uplink SIR (signal to co-channel interference power ratio) and downlink SIR are constant at some level. In case there is only non-linear HPA in the satellite, it is shown that BER considerably depends on the ACI magnitude ACI. When there are two non-linear HPAs in the both earth station and satellite, much BER degradation results from the CCI and ACI.

  • One of the most important design parameters in a microwave radio transmitting system is to reduce spurious response from the output spectrum of the transmitting system. A Local oscillator (LO) is seldom totally pure and at the least contain some LO harmonic signals. A LO or any oscillator is a transmitter if provided with a suitable radiator, conduction, or leakage path. Where mixer is employed in the output of the LO mixer generated spurs can be increased by RF amplifier. To reduce LO leakage, notch filter or band pass filter has been conventionally used. In this paper, the leakage reduction(LR) signal, which has the same magnitude and the opposite phase with respect to LO leakage signal, is added to the output of mixer of the wireless LAN system. The LO leakage is reduced by 30 dB more than the conventional methods do. The proposed method is potentially suitable for low-cost, reliable, and simple application of monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs)

  • New dynamic analysis procedures lot the vertically drilled sea water pile are suggested and demonstrated by the typical design Problem. Pile structure submerged in the sea water as well as forces by the ocean waves and tidal currents are modeled and formulated by finite element method. To obtain wave forces for the finite element equation, Airy's wave theory is tested and selected among others. Lateral lifting forces induced by the vortex shedding of current flow is simply based on the harmonic function with the Strouhal frequency and lifting coefficient. Natural frequencies and frequency responses for the pile are calculated by NASTRAN using the results of the formulation. Dynamic displacement and stress results obtained by these procedures are shown to be applicable to predict the dynamic behaviors of the ocean pile by the wave and lifting forces as a preliminary design analysis.

  • The Sinusoidal Transform Coding(STC) is a vocoding scheme based on a sinusoidal model of a speech signal. The low bit-rate speech coding based on sinusoidal model is a method that models and synthesizes speech with fundamental frequency and its harmonic elements, spectral envelope and phase in the frequency region. In this paper, we propose the 2.4kbps low-rate speech coding algorithm using the sinusoidal model of a speech signal. In the proposed coder, the pitch frequency is estimated by choosing the frequency that makes least mean squared error between synthetic speech with all spectrum peaks and speech synthesized with chosen frequency and its harmonics. The spectral envelope is estimated using SEEVOC(Spectral Envelope Estimation VOCoder) algorithm and the discrete all-pole model. The phase information is obtained using the time of pitch pulse occurrence, i.e., the onset time, as well as the phase of the vocal tract system. Experimental results show that the synthetic speech preserves both the formant and phase information of the original speech very well. The performance of the coder has been evaluated in terms of the MOS test based on informal listening tests, and it achieved over the MOS score of 3.1.

  • This paper presents the spectral analysis and radiation pattern of low-frequency electromagnetic(EM) leakage signals according to the fundamental operations of smartphones. The EM leakage signals generated by the activation of four I/O sensor modules such as a touch-screen, a camera, a microphone and a speaker are captured by the commercial near-field magnetic probe with 1cm spatial resolution. The analysis results show that the leakage of the EM wave occurs strongly around the activated I/O sensor modules, AP(Application Processor) and memory modules. Also, the distinguishable frequency characteristic is shown in each spectrum of EM leakage signals.

  • In this paper, the tone of Daegeum, one of the most representative wind instruments of our country, was analyzed. Daegeum is widely used as Jeongak Daegeum and Sanjo Daegeum, which are played in royal and wind music, and Sanjo Daegeum is mainly played in Sanjo, Sinawi and folk music. The reason why the two pieces of music are being played in different music genres is due to the improvement of the length of the pipe and the location of the finger holes, allowing the Sanjo Daegeum to perform faster than Jeongak Daegeum, apply various techniques, and make the choice of musical instruments harmonized with music by making the difference in tone. For timber analysis of Jeongak Daegeum and Sanjo Daegeum, the composition of the overtones was visually verified through Spectrogram and Spectrum Analizer, in which the results of recordings were recorded by playing octave low, flat, and octave high positions with the same power. From this, Jeongak Daegeum, which is rich in low-pitched sound, harmonizes with solemn music such as royal music, and Sanjo Daegeum, which has a relatively clear high-pitched sound, is well suited to bright music such as solo music.

  • This study analyzed the ADCP records along with wind by KMA and discharge records at Seosan A-, B-district tide embankment by KRC for 33 days obtained in the Chunsu Bay, Yellow Sea, Korea spanning from July 29 to August 30, 2010. Various analyses include descriptive statistics, harmonic analysis of tidal constituents, spectra and coherence, complex correlation, progressive vector diagram and cumulative curves to understand the tidal and sub-tidal current characteristics caused by local wind and discharge effect. Observed current speed ranges from -30 to 40 (cm/sec), with standard deviation from 1.7 (cm/sec) at bottom to 18.7 (cm/sec) at surface. According to the harmonic analysis results, the tidal current direction show NNW-SSE. The magnitudes of semi-major axes range from 9.4 to 14.8 (cm/sec) for M2 harmonic constituent and from 4.4 to 7.0 (cm/sec) for S2, respectively. And the magnitudes of semi-minor axes range from 0.1 to 0.5 (cm/sec) for M2 and from 0.4 to 1.4 (cm/sec) for S2, respectively. In the spectral analysis results in the frequency domain, we found 3~6 significant spectral peaks for band-passed wind and residual current of all depth. These peak periods represent various periodicities ranging from 2 to 8 (days). In the coherency analysis results between band-passed wind and residual current of all depth, several significant coherencies could be resolved in 3~5 periodicities within 2.8 (days). Highest coherency peak occurred at 4.6 (day) with 1.2-day phase lag of discharge to band-passed residual current. The progressive vector of wind and residual current travelled to northward at all layers, and the travel distance at middle layer was greater than surface layer distance. The Northward residual current was caused by a seasonal southern wind, and the density-driven current formed by fresh water input effected southward residual current. The sub-tidal current characteristics is determined by seasonal wind force and fresh water inflow in the Chunsu Bay, Yellow Sea, Korea.

  • Statistical characteristic analysis was carried out using the non-tidal components computed by the harmonic analysis of the tidal elevation data in East coast. The tide gauging stations included in this study are the Sokcho, Mukho, Hupo, Pohang, Ulsan and Ulreungdo stations. In this study, the variance and skewness coefficient (SC) information changes, i.e., the max. value, min. value, mean and standard deviation of the variance and SC, are compared and analysed in detail by the various analysis periods increased from one year to the maximum available period. Based on the result of the statistical information (SI) range analysis, the minimum analysis period required in order to satisfy the confidence interval of the ${\pm}5%$ range of the variance and the ${\pm}0.1$ range of the SC is suggested as the 12 years, except the Ulreungdo stations. The auto-correlation and spectral density change patterns show the very similar shapes in every stations even though the absolute values are a little bit different each other.

  • This Paper describes a crack scattering model for SH wave based on the boundary integral equation(BIE) method, where the fundamental unknown is crack opening displacement(COD). When a time harmonic plane wave was incident on a 2-D isolated crack (slit) of width 2a, the COD distributions were numerically calculated as a function of ka. The calculated COD agreed well with results obtained with other methods. The far-field scattering amplitude, which completely characterizes the flaw response, was calculated in two ways. The Kirchhoff approximation and the BIE-COD exact formulation were compared in terms of incidence angle and frequency ka in a pulse-echo mode. Maximum response was obtained for both methods at the specular reflection direction. Away from the specular direction, the Kirchhoff approximation becomes less accurate. The time domain crack response was also calculated using a band-limited spectrum of center frequency 10 MHz. At oblique incidence to the crack both methods show the existence of an antisymmetric flash points occurring from the crack edge. The Kirchhoff approximation provides an exact time interval between flash points, although it unrealistically gives the same amplitude.
