A new signal processing technique, the directional harmonic wavelet map(dHWM), is presented to characterize the instantaneous planar motion of a measurement point in a structure from its transient complex-valued vibration signal. It is proven that the directional auto-HWM essentially tracks the shape and directively of the instantaneous planar motion, whereas the phase of the directional cross-HWM indicates its inclination angle. Finally, the technique is suessfully applied to an automobile engine for characterization of its transient motion during crank-on/idling/engine-off.
In this paper, the harmonic displacement response of a damaged square plate with all-over part-through damage parallel to one edge is utilized as the input signal function in wavelet analysis. The method requires the properties of the damaged plate, i.e., no information about the original undamaged structure is required. The location of damage is identified by sudden changes in the spatial variation of transformed response. The incurred damage causes a change in the stiffness or mass of the plate. This causes a localized singularity which can be identified by a wavelet analysis of the displacement response. In this study via numerical examples shown by using harmonic response is more versatile and effective compared with the static deflection response, specially in the presence of noise. In the light of the obtained results, suggestions for future work are presented and discussed.
The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of site is very important in the various fields of geotechnical engineering. To obtain shear wave velocity profile, various in-situ seismic methods using surface waves have been developed. These surface wave based in-situ seismic methods have their own strength and weakness. In this study, new seismic site characterization method using the harmonic wavelet analysis of wave (HWAW) was proposed to overcome some of weaknesses in the existing surface wave based seismic site characterization methods. HWAW method which is based on time-frequency analysis using harmonic wavelet transform have been developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves. In order to estimate the applicability of HWAW method, field tests were performed. Through field applications and comparison with other test results, the applicability of the proposed method were verified.

In this paper a systematic approach to automatic classificationi of power system harmonic disturbances is proposed where the proposed approach consists of the following three steps:(i) detecting and localizing each harmonic disturbance by applying discrete wavelet transform(DWT) (ii) extracting an efficient feature vector from each detected disturbance waveform by utilizing FFT and principal component analysis (PCA) along with Fisher's criterion and (iii) classifying the corresponding type of each harmonic disturbance by recognizing the pattern of each feature vector. To demonstrate the performance and applicability of the proposed classification procedure some simulation results obtained by analyzing 8-class power system harmonic disturbances being generated with Matlab power system blockset are also provided.
The wavelet transform has attracted considerable attention in the field of power quality analysis recently. This paper discuss the voltage sag and harmonic disturbances by using wavelet analysis. A discrete wavelet-based approach is applied for determining the characteristics of these disturbances.

The evaluation of shear modulus is very important in various fields of civil engineering. In this paper, the site characterization method using HWAW method is applied to determine shear wave velocity profile of two test sites in order to verify the field applicability of HWAW method. Shear wave velocity profiles by HWAW method are compared with shear wave velocity profiles by SASW test and PS-Suspension Logging test. Through field applications, it is shown that HWAW method can minimize the effect of noise and lateral non-homogeneity of the site and determine detailed local shear wave velocity profile of site.

Percentage differential characteristic scheme has been recognized as the principal basis for large transformer protection. Nowadays, relaying signals can contain second harmonic component to a large extent even in a normal state, and second harmonic ratio indicates a tendency of relative reduction because of the advancement of transformer's core material. And then, conventional second harmonic restraint differential relaying exposes some doubt in reliability. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a new algorithm for the effective and accurate discrimination. This paper deals with advanced fuzzy logic based relaying by using flux differential, and a new fault detection criterion logic scheme by using wavelet transform. To comparative analysis of proposed techniques, the paper constructs power system model including power transformer, utilizing the EMTP, and collects data through simulation of various internal faults and magnetizing inrush. The proposed fuzzy relaying and a new fault detection scheme were tested. The former, fuzzy relaying, was proven to be faster and more reliable than the latter.
Over the last two decades Wavelet Transformation (WT) method has been widely utilized for the damage identification of structures. The main objective of this paper is to discuss and present some of common shortcomings and limitations of mathematical software, as well as other precautionary measures that need to be considered when using them for wavelet analysis applications. Due to popular usage of MATLABMATLAB(R) comparing to other mathematical tools among researchers for data processing of structural responses through WT analysis, this software was chosen for specific study. To the best of the authors' knowledge, these limitations and observations have not been previously identified or discussed in the literature. In this work, a square plate with a severe damage, in form of a crack, parallel to the left edge of the plate is selected for a pilot study. The steady state harmonic response is used for measuring the deflection shape across the line parallel to one edge and perpendicular to the damage. Several criteria and cases such as the smallest size damage that can be detected, correlation between the crack width and the number of sampling points, and the influence of the damage thickness on the accuracy of the result are investigated.

In this paper, the different frequency component and time informations from an EMI signal are extracted simultaneously using a wavelet transform and the results of transform in the time and frequency domain are analyzed. Frequencies are extracted from the EMI signal by performing the multiresolution analysis using the Daubechies-4 filter coefficients and the time information through the results of wavelet transform. We have tried the correlation analysis to evaluate the results of wavelet transform. We have chosen the optimal wavelet function for an object signal by comparing the transformed results of various wavelet functions and verified the simulation examples of waveform and harmonic analysis using a wavelet transform. We have proved the denoising effect to the EMI signal using the soft thresholding technique.
