  • In this study, a particle method without using grid was applied for analysing large deformation problems in soil flows instead of using ordinary finite element or finite difference methods. In the particle method, a continuum equation was discretized by various particle interaction models corresponding to differential operators such as gradient, divergence, and Laplacian. Soil behavior changes from solid to liquid state with increasing water content or external load. The Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion was incorporated into the particle method to analyze such three-dimensional soil behavior. The yielding and hardening behavior of soil before failure was analyzed by treating soil as a viscous liquid. First of all, a sand column test without confining pressure and strength was carried out and then a self-standing clay column test with cohesion was carried out. Large deformation from such column tests due to soil yielding or failure was used for verifying the developed particle method. The developed particle method was able to simulate the three-dimensional plastic deformation of soils due to yielding before failure and calculate the variation of normal and shear stresses both in sand and clay columns.

  • As port development in soft ground is actively promoted for international logistics and transportation, the Deep Mixing Method (DMM) is continuously applied to form an improved column body directly in the ground by mixing cement with soil to secure the stability of the structure. However, in the case of cement, there is a problem of emitting a lot of greenhouse gases during the production process, so the development and use of new alternative materials are socially required to achieve the national goal of carbon neutrality. Accordingly, in this study, CMD-SOIL, developed to induce a hardening reaction similar to cement by recycling recycled resources, was used as a ground improvement material for the DMM. In addition, it was attempted to determine the possibility of replacing cement by conducting on-site test construction and evaluating applicability. As a result of the study, the compressive strength of CMD-SOIL compared to the design reference strength was 1.46 to 2.64 times higher in the field mixing test and 1.2 to 5.03 times higher than in the confirmed boring. In addition, the ratio (λ) of the compressive strength in the field to the design reference strength was 0.63 to 1.14, which was similar to the previous research results. Therefore, in the case of CMD-SOIL, it is possible to express the compressive strength necessary to secure stability, and there is no difference in applicability compared to existing materials such as ordinary portland cement and blast furnace slag cement, so it was analyzed that it could be used as a ground improvement material for the DMM.

  • Based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, a gradient-dependent plastic model that considers the strain-softening behavior is presented in this study. Both triaxial shear tests on conventional specimen and precut-specimen, which were obtained from an ancient landslide, are performed to plot the post-peak stress-strain entire-process curves. According to the test results of the soil strength, which reduces from peak to residual strength, the Mohr-Coulomb criterion that considers strain-softening under gradient plastic theory is deduced, where strength reduction depends on the hardening parameter and the Laplacian thereof. The validity of the model is evaluated by the simulation of the results of triaxial shear test, and the computed and measured curves are consistent and independent of the adopted mesh. Finally, a progressive failure of the ancient landslide, which was triggered by slide of the toe, is simulated using this model, and the effects of the strain-softening process on the landslide stability are discussed.

  • Various design factors should be considered in order to apply the concrete slab track system on the soil/rock roadbed. One of the important factors is the settlement of roadbed. This settlement of concrete track should be supervised under the allowable settlement limit. If the settlement of roadbed under the concrete track exceed the allowable limit, the train serviceability will considerably come down and furthermore the fatal disaster may happen. Therefore, in this paper we introduced a PRCG(pressurized rapid-hardening cement grouting) method as a settlement restoration method that can be suitably adopted to the concrete slab track.

  • In this study, a constitutive model which can describe the anisotropic and plastic behaviors of natural cohesive soils, was developed based on anisotropic bounding surface theory. The model was fomulated by the concepts of the improved anisotropic bounding surface function, nonassociated flow rule with new plastic potential function, anisotropic hardening rule, and new mapping rule governing the plastic behavior inside bounding sutraface. Comparing with the results of Ku consolidation and triaxial shearing tests, the predictions by the proposed model agree quite well with real soil responses.

  • In the S.C.W (soil cement wall) grouting solution, Cement grout ratio of 1 part Portland cement and 1part water is being used. However, Co2 and harmful heavy metals such as cr6+ are discharged in the process, causing a serious environmental issue. The purpose of the present study is therefore to substitute cement grout to inorganic binder and identify durability properties of ground solidification materials.

  • Brillouin Optical Frequency Domain Analysis (BOFDA) is a distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) technique that has unique advantages for performance monitoring of piles. However, the complicated production process and harsh operating environment of offshore PHC pipe piles make it difficult to apply this method to pile load testing. In this study, sensing cables were successfully pre-installed into an offshore PHC pipe pile directly for the first time and the BOFDA technique was used for in-situ monitoring of the pile under axial load. High-resolution strain and internal force distributions along the pile were obtained by the BOFDA sensing system. A finite element analysis incorporating the Degradation and Hardening Hyperbolic Model (DHHM) was carried out to evaluate and predict the performance of the pile, which provides an improved insight into the offshore pile-soil interaction mechanism.

  • Since the current method of SCW cement milk pouring method uses one to one ratio of cement milk with OPC, there are some problems such as drying shrinkage, increased cost, difficulty of controlling mix proportions for various conditions of applied soil, and precipitation of $Cr^{6+}$ due to the excessively used cement. Specifically, in aspect of sustainability issues of cement manufacturing, the consumption of cement should be reduced. Hence, in this research, as a replacement of cement for SCW method, blast furnace slag with sulfate or alkali as a stimulant, and expansive admixture were used. By using blast furnace slag as a hardening composite of SCW, there are many advantages such as free controllable mix proportions, rapid setting time with less mud occurrence, less cost with less energy for mixing, constant strength development, and less precipitation of $Cr^{6+}$. Regarding the alternative composites for SCW, in this research, durability and chloride resistance were evaluated.
