Universal motors are mainly used for vacuum cleaner application. There are a lot of researches on SRM that applys home appliance throughout the world. The manufacturing cost of SRM drive makes it hard to expand its application to home appliance. This paper presents Single Phase SRM for the vacuum cleaner that has advantge in cost and performance over conventional universal motor. This paper proposes new power device driving scheme by using SRM switching characteristic. The driving scheme is very simple and inexpensive. Dwell Time Control method is used for the minimum switching loss of power device. The switching frequency of power device is less than 4.5kHz at 45,000rpm. By use of this scheme, power device based on very small switching losses can be used on SRM drive. Also, the biggest problem in single phase SRM is starting, this paper shows a new starting algorithm with two hall sensors, accelerating and running sensors, respectively. Finally, the proposed Single Phase SRM achieves higher efficiency and long life time compared to universal motor. Its life time is more than 1500 hours. Its life time is extended 4 times than that of conventional motor and its suction power is increased $20\%$ at the same volume of conventional universal motor.
Welding machines are high-capacity systems used in a low-frequency range using IGBT. As their system is similar to a large transformer, most welding machines suffer a great loss because of hard switching and vast leakage inductance. A voltage-balancing circuit is designed to overcome these shortcomings. This circuit can reduce the transformer size by making it into a high frequency and reducing the input voltage by half and by adopting a serial structure that connects two full-bridges in a series to use a MOSFET with a good property at high frequency. In addition, a Schottky diode is used in the primary rectifier to overcome the low efficiency of most welding machines. To use the Schottky diode with a reliably relatively low withstanding voltage, an active snubber is adopted to effectively limit the ringing voltage of the diode cut-off voltage.
In switching from the track-seeking or track-jumping control mode to track-following control mode in hard disk drives or optical disk drives, initial values of the feedback controller are tuned to improve the transient response. In general, all the initial values of the controller have been compensated for this purpose. In this paper, by partially compensating initial values of digital controllers, we achieve a good performance of the transient response. In the proposed method for IVC (Intial Value Compensation), LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) are used, which includes conditions for improving the performance of the transient response such as reducing a tracking error and control efforts. We obtain optimal initial values of the controller by solving an optimization problem with constraints represented by only one LMI. Although initial values of the controller are partially compensated, we can show that not only a sufficient performance of the transient response is obtained but also control efforts are diminished. The feasibility of the method is verified by simulation studies.
Differential power processing (DPP) systems are among the most effective architectures for photovoltaic (PV) power systems because they are highly efficient as a result of their distributed local maximum power point tracking ability, which allows the fractional processing of the total generated power. However, DPP systems require a high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional converter with broad operating ranges and galvanic isolation. This study proposes a single, magnetic, high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is composed of a bidirectional flyback and a bidirectional isolated switched-capacitor cell, which are competitively cheap. The output terminals of the flyback converter and switched-capacitor cell are connected in series to obtain the voltage step-up. In the reverse power flow, the converter reciprocally operates with high efficiency across a broad operating range because it uses hard switching instead of soft switching. The proposed topology achieves a genuine on-off interleaved energy transfer at the transformer core and windings, thus providing an excellent utilization ratio. The dynamic characteristics of the converter are analyzed for the controller design. Finally, a 240 W hardware prototype is constructed to demonstrate the operation of the bidirectional converter under a current feedback control loop. To improve the efficiency of a PV system, the maximum power point tracking method is applied to the proposed converter.
We present ferroelectricity of Bi-doped ZnO film probed by piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM), which is one of the Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques. Perovskite ferroelectrics are limited to integration of devices into semiconductor microcircuitry due to hard adjusting their lattice structure to the semiconductor materials. Transition metal doped ZnO film is one of the candidate materials for replacing the perovskite ferroelectrics. In this study, ferroelectric characteristics of the Bi-doped ZnO grown by pulsed laser deposition were probed by PFM. The polarization switching and patterning of the ZnO films were performed by applying DC bias voltage between the AFM tips and the films with varying voltages and polarity. The PFM contrast before and after patterning showed clearly polarization switching for a specific concentration of Bi atoms. In addition, the patterned regions with nanoscale show clearly the local piezoresponse hysteresis loop. The spontaneous polarization of the ZnO film is estimated from the local piezoresponse based on the comparison with LiNbO3 single crystals.
It is important to know character about efficiency of converters before manufacturing it. Recently, various techniques are developed for solar array system. Converters can be used for control of solar array's condition. So, solar array with converter structures are very useful. If we want to measure converter's efficiency after manufacturing it. It's not difficult if we have measuring equipment. But we need to measure efficiency before realization converters for development of optimized efficiency and simulations. This research offers an efficiency calculation of single phase hard switching boost converter. And it is the most basic type of converters. In fact, it can be used techniques for getting higher efficiency like soft-switching and more. But the cost is an important issue in compact solar array system. One way to escape from the cost problem is finding optimized efficiency of basic types of convener.
In this study, a new zero-voltage transition (ZVT) buck converter with coupled inductor using a synchronous rectifier and a lossless clamp circuit is proposed. The regular buck converter with tapped inductor has extended duty cycle for high step-down applications. However, the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor produced considerable voltage spikes across the switch. A lossless clamp circuit is used in the proposed converter to overcome this problem. The freewheeling diode was replaced with a synchronous rectifier to reduce conduction losses in the proposed converter. ZVT conditions at turn-on and turn-off instants were provided for the main switch. The synchronous rectifier switch turned on under zero-voltage switching, and the auxiliary switch turn-on and turn-off were under zero-current condition. Experimental results of a 100 W-100 kHz prototype are provided to justify the validity of the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the conducted electromagnetic interference of the proposed converter is measured and compared with its hard-switching counterpart.
Condition monitoring has been recognized as an effective and low-cost method to enhance the reliability and improve the maintainability of power electronic converters. In power electronic converters, high-frequency oscillation occurs during the switching transients of power transistors, which is known as ringing. The ringing frequency mainly depends on the values of the parasitic capacitance and stray inductance in the oscillation loop. Although circuit stray inductance is an important factor that leads to the ringing, it does not change with transistor aging. A shift in either the inside inductance or junction capacitance is an important failure precursor for power transistors. Therefore, ringing frequency can be used to monitor the health of power transistors. However, the switching actions of power transistors usually result in a dynamic behavior that can generate oscillation signals mixed with background noise, which makes it hard to directly extract the ringing frequency. A frequency extraction method based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Fast Fourier transformation (FFT) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is simple and has a high precision. Simulation results are given to verify the ringing analysis and experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Instead of point-to-point hard wiring between substation yard equipments and SCADA RTU(Remote Terminal Unit), fibre optic cable will be used in the portion between Local Units and Central Unit in the future KEPCO 765kV substation. The connections between substation yard equipments and nearby Local Unit remain the same hard wiring. The new fibre optic system will provide security especially during ground faults and is immune to electrical noise. A prototype system will be manufactured and installed in the existing 154kV Yeosan Substation by the end of July this year and operated for one year. By incorporating the operation experiences acquired in the system, an improved system will be commercially applied to 765kV Shin-An-Seong Substation where 345kV GIS will be installed initially and act as the switching station in the year 1998. The system is composed of one Central Unit and several Local Units. The Central Unit is composed of two workstation level computers, one is in operation and the other backup, and a Communication Control Unit. The Local Unit uses the existing SCADA RTU technology and takes the form of a distributed one. Between the Communication Control Unit and Local Units, the fibre optic system with star-coupler is used.
