  • Real-time multimedia streaming over the Internet is rapidly increasing with the popularity of user-created contents, Web 2.0 trends, and P2P (peer-to-peer) delivery support. While many homes today are broadband-enabled, the quality of experience (QoE) of a user is still limited due to frequent interruption of media playout. The vulnerability of TCP (transmission control protocol), the popular transport-layer protocol for streaming in practice, to the packet losses, retransmissions, and timeouts makes it hard to deliver a timely and persistent flow of packets for online multimedia contents. This paper presents TCP-real-time online multimedia environment (ROME), a novel transport-layer framework that allows the establishment and coordination of multiple many-to-one TCP connections. Between one client with multiple home addresses and multiple co-located or distributed servers, TCP-ROME increases the total throughput by aggregating the resources of multiple TCP connections. It also overcomes the bandwidth fluctuations of network bottlenecks by dynamically coordinating the streams of contents from multiple servers and by adapting the streaming rate of all connections to match the bandwidth requirement of the target video.

  • The Automatic Ship Identification System(AIS) is importantly used to evaluate the trajectory of ships and the possibility of collision between ships. However, it is difficult to provide real-time information due to the limitation of the transmission intervals. Most of the studies to improve this are conducted based on ideal data, so there is a problem that it is hard to respond to the actual situation. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a discrete Kalman filter-based method that reflects the turning angle according to the type of trajectory, to provide real-time position information on real-time data. In addition, the accuracy evaluation of the proposed algorithm is conducted through experiments using actual data.

  • The hard mask photo-resist strip inspection system for the semiconductor wafer manufacturing process inspects the position of the circuit pattern formed on the wafer by measuring the distance from the edge of the wafer to the strip processing area. After that, it is an inspection system that enables you to check the process status in real time. Process defects can be significantly reduced by applying a tester that has not been applied to the existing wafer strip process, edge etching process, and wafer ashing process. In addition, it is a technology for localizing semiconductor process inspection equipment that can analyze the outer diameter of the wafer and the state of pattern formation, which can secure process stability and improve wafer edge yield.

  • As the first step toward real-time multi-core computing, this paper presents a novel approach to bounding the worst-case performance for threads running on multi-core processors with shared L2 instruction caches. The idea of our approach is to compute the worst-case instruction access interferences between different threads based on the program control flow information of each thread, which can be statically analyzed. Our experiments indicate that the proposed approach can reasonably estimate the worst-case shared L2 instruction cache misses by considering the inter-thread instruction conflicts. Also, the worst-case execution time (WCET) of applications running on multi-core processors estimated by our approach is much better than the estimation by simply assuming all L2 instruction accesses are misses.

  • Nowadays, base isolation systems such as lead-rubber bearing, elastomer bearing and sliding bearing have been installed to the various structures to prevent the disaster from seismic. The performance of base isolation system have been well proved by model-scale experiments and numerical analysis. However. the seismic response data measured at real large base-isolated structures is still insufficient. This paper presents a seismic monitoring system, acquiring real-time acceleration signals up to 32 channels, displaying time history and spectrum of the signals, storing the acquired data at a PC hard disk, and replaying the saved data. Moreover, the system can be operated without any limitation for monitoring period by automatic management of stored data file. The developed system has been installed at a real base-isolated building using lead-rubber bearings and we expect its seismic response data with ground motion signal can be well licquired in case of earthquake occurrence.

  • The object-oriented (OO) distributed real-time (RT) programming movement started in 1990´s and is growing rapidly at this turn of the century. Distributed real-time simulation is a field in its infancy but it is bounded to receive steadily growing recognition for its importance and wide applicability. The scheme is called the distributed time-triggered simulation scheme which is conceptually simple and easy to use but widely applicable. A new generation object oriented (OO) RT programming scheme is called the time-triggered message triggered object(TMO) programming scheme and it is used to make specific illustrations of the issues. The TMO structuring scheme is a general-style components structuring scheme and supports design of all types of component including hard real time objects and non real time objects within one general structure.

  • In the era of 45 nm or beyond technology, conventional etch mask using photoresist showed its limitation of etch mask pattern collapse as well as pattern erosion, thus hard mask in etching became necessary for precise control of etch pattern geometry. Currently available hard mask materials are amorphous carbon and polymetric materials spin-on containing carbon or silicon. Amorphous carbon layer (ACL) deposited by PECVD for etch hard mask has appeared in manufacturing, but spin-on carbon (SOC) was also suggested to alleviate concerns of particle, throughput, and cost of ownership (COO) [1]. SOC provides some benefits of reduced process steps, but it also faced with wiggling on a sidewall profile. Diamond like carbon (DLC) was also evaluated for substituting ACL, but etching selectivity of ACL was better than DLC although DLC has superior optical property [2]. Developing a novel material for pattern hard mask is very important in material research, but it is also worthwhile eliminating a potential issue to continuously develop currently existing technology. In this paper, we investigated in-situ dry-cleaning (ISD) monitoring of ACL coated process chamber. End time detection of chamber cleaning not only provides a confidence that the process chamber is being cleaned, but also contributes to minimize wait time waste (WOW). Employing Challenger 300ST, a 300mm ACL PECVD manufactured by TES, a series of experimental chamber cleaning runs was performed after several deposition processes in the deposited film thickness of $2000{\AA}$ and $5000{\AA}$. Ar Actinometry and principle component analysis (PCA) were applied to derive integrated and intuitive trace signal, and the result showed that previously operated cleaning run time can be reduced by more than 20% by employing real-time monitoring in ISD process.

  • In the motor manufacturing system with the properties of short delivery and order based production, the process plan is performed individually for each order by the expert of process plan after the completion of the detail design process to satisfy the specification to be required by customer. Also it is hard to establish the standard process plan in reality because part routings and operation times are varied for each order. Hence, the production planner has the problem that is hard to establish the production schedule releasing the job to the factory because there occurs the big difference between the real time to be completed the process plan and the time to be required by the production planner. In this paper, we study the decision supporting system for the process plan based on knowledge base concept. First, we represent the knowledge of process planner as a database model through the modified POI-Feature graph. Then we design and implement the decision supporting system imbedded in the heuristic algorithm in the client/server environment using the ORACLE relational database management system.

  • The 'Hard Matte' was the method being wide-screen to the directors wanted more vivid and made real films to the audience at the beginning of cinematography. The hard matte have changed as unique device in films as opening and closing credit titles making impressions which being captured strongly to the people at the time the wide-screen has developed. In HDTV has invented in NHK the hard matte is called 'letter box style and on music video channel we can see the style as easily. That kind of hard matte images on music video have effected to commercial films are seen recently. But some of commercial films have problems like only expending horizontal way. The hard matte is one of important ways that could regulate the art contents with art form. Korean film image makers as directors and production designers must know the role and function of hard matter has arranged reasonable in foreign films.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for scheduling jobs in soft real-time systems. To simplify the scheduling for soft real-time systems, we introduce two-level deadline scheme. Each job in the system has two deadlines, which we call first-level and second-level deadlines, respectively. The first-level deadline is the same as the deadline in traditional real-time systems. The second-level deadline is later than the first-level deadline, and defines the latest point in time when the result is still acceptable. Partial-credit is given for jobs meeting the second-level deadline but missing the first-level deadline, whereas jobs meeting the latter are given full credit. We heuristically compute priorities of jobs in a dynamic way by combining the first-level adn second-level deadlines with the partial-credit. Simulation results indicate that our two-level scheduling algorithm is a viable approach for dealing with both soft real-time systems and temporary overloaded hard real-time systems.
